Introduction
This document seeks to outline and investigate the growth of internet penetration in Ireland. The origin of the Internet was the ARPANET, a project funded by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) in 1969.Kennedy (2012) states that twenty years ago Barry Flanagan began Ireland On-Line in his house in Galway, beginning the internet as a consumer phenomenon in Ireland. Internet thereby started in 1992 in Ireland that is twenty-three years later from when it started in the U.S. Since then the growth of internet penetration have been rapid.
Background
Numbers of homes with internet connected to a computer have increased from 5% in 1998 to 41.5% in 2005. (CSO 2005) .This shows that there has been an exponential growth over the years. In 2013 the Internet in Ireland is used by 77% of the population and is an important contributor to the economy and education Wikipedia (2014). The increase in internet usage in households is clearly shown in the Figure 1 and it also clearly shows how the number of those with computers in their home with internet and is catching up with those with computers without internet. In other words the two lines in Figure 1 will eventually merge because internet is growing rapid. Over the years internet have become a necessity rather than a luxury.

Internet growth
There are many factors which reveal that there has been massive internet growth over the years. In 2010 it was revealed that the internet was running out of addresses to assign to new devices and this is due to massive web growth, particularly mobile internet. (Kennedy, 2010) This is one of the signs that there is a high demand which cannot be met by supply and there is a need for intervention to meet the growth....

The internet is used today for many reasons. It is a platform for people to stay in touch with others, entertain themselves and complete work tasks. In the following articles, “Internet Addiction Left my Brother Homeless” by Winston Ross and “The Pointlessness of Unplugging” by Casey N. Cep, the internet is discussed very deeply, but in two varying lights. In the article by Cep the author is writing from personal experiences and research. In the article by Ross the author is writing merely from opinions.

The recent revolution of internet and dot-com boom has brought more people familiar to computers and the Internet. It seems like that we can hardly find our way through everyday life with out using or having an internet connected computer next to us. The way we think, live, and communicate was changed once for all with the invention of networked communication of computers. Computers are no longer a piece of machine that sits on top of our desk for us to admire the marvelous technology brought by the geeks and freaks of 80's, but for us to constantly use and put in to work. And in a way, environment which we live in, the society, schools, jobs, forces us to make friends with that technology. Just like when you don't have a telephone you will have hard time communicate with meeting with your friends, absence of instant messaging programs, or ability to use one, will place you out of the circle of events happening with the friends, or don't let you do the work as fast or as good as the one who uses the technology. This is one of the reasons why increasing number of people choose to have computers and internet as a prime communication tool not only between friends and for socialization, but for everyday life. People are increasingly finding new ways of getting things done not by the waiting at the other end of the phone line, but clicking the way through a certain web pages, or typing their message on emails and messenger program. On-line part of the business of almost all industries, not only limited to the dot-com companies but other 'traditional' businesses as well, has been increasingly finding it self positioning more valuable and growing in potential. We are all too familiar with the online shopping sites and class websites that we use almost everyday in a very handy way of getting things done.

Term Paper: The History of the Internet The Internet began like most things in our society, that is to say that the government started it. The Internet started out as an experimental military network in the 1960s. Doug Engelbart prototypes an "Online System" (NLS) which does hypertext browsing, editing, email, and so on. The Internet is a worldwide broadcasting resource used for distributing information and a source for interaction between people on their computers. In 1973, the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) initiated a research program to investigate techniques and technologies for interlinking packet networks of various kinds.
Due to the demand for the internet to be fast, networks are designed for maximum speed, rather than to be secure or track users (“Interpol” par. 1). The adage of the adage.... ... middle of paper ... ...

So you believe Al Gore created the Internet? Well that’s not possible, because I did. Yes, it’s true, a few years ago I was sitting in my basement with nothing to do and suddenly the idea came to me: why not create an inter-connected network of networks that will allow users to send mail instantly, download copyrighted songs, and order pizza, all from the comfort of their own living room? OK, so maybe I didn’t exactly invent the Internet, but neither did Al Gore.
In our society, there has been a revolution which competes that of the industrial revolution. It is called technological revolution. At the top of the technological revolution is what we call, the Internet. In the following report we will be discussing about what the internet is about in general and how it might be in the future, why it is necessary in our everyday lives, and why has it become so important to everyone (i.e. companies, individuals ).
