If one were to survey one hundred people of varying ages, and ask, "What is one of America's favorite frozen treats", ice cream would undeniably be a top answer. Consumed in the quantity of 1.6 billion gallons a year in the U.S. alone, ice cream is a part of many American "food" traditions and has popularity that extends even beyond our borders (The History of Ice Cream). In exploring the topic of ice cream, it doesn't take long to realize it has a rich history, it has stayed the same and yet has certainly evolved over time thanks to advances in technology, and it is often confused with other frozen treats such as gelato. The history of ice cream is an interesting one; many might think its origins may be fairly new (the last 100 or so years), but nothing could be further from the truth. Though nothing dating back can be precisely accurate, it is strongly speculated, that frozen style treats date back to B.C. 2. There are accounts in The Bible that would suggest during harvesting season, King Solomon enjoyed frozen beverages. Furthermore, it has been found that Alexander the Great even refreshed himself with snow sweetened with honey or other sweet "syrups". Obviously these treats weren't what would be defined today as "ice cream", rather, these were more along the lines of slushies. Nonetheless, even then, people were experimenting with and enjoying the combinations that can be made with snow/ice and sweet flavors. The Chinese ruler King T'ang of Shang during the T'ang dynasty is generally credited with creating the first real ice cream. It consisted of ice, fermented/heated milk (koumiss), camphor, and flour. The common thread with these leaders is that they all had ice men and/or runners. These peoples' jobs were simply ... ... middle of paper ... ...ream typically contain 50% or more air content after the churning process...where as gelato contains less than 30% air content (Nutrition Facts on Gelato Compared to Ice Cream). This lack of air is what gives gelato its dense texture. Though both of these treats are enjoyed all over world, they aren't the same thing. In general, gelato is considered more of a European frozen dessert, while ice cream is considered more of an American frozen dessert. Ice cream must have something to offer young and old alike. Not only has it stood the test of time in its original state, but with the advances of technology, ice cream has grown in the capabilities to be used to make many new dessert creations and concoctions. I think it is safe to say that across the country, ice cream is one of America's favorite frozen treats...with so many flavors and varieties, why wouldn't it be?
To be more exact, its employees were enthusiastic, motivated and friendly; ultimately, they provided excellent and satisfactory customer service to which all customers responded well. Eventually, 40 years after the store was founded, Hannah retired and sold the company to Ike Telloni, a former regional marketing director of Waterloo Ice Cream for Southern Ontario. Despite Hannah’s Ice Cream being a successful business for years, the once greatly viewed enterprise spiraled downhill due to the new management introduced by Ike. Overall, Ike management demonstrated the opposite factors of Hannah’s success.

Before ice could be preserved in refrigerators, keeping ice cold was a major problem. Back in this time there wasn't good enough technology to refrigerate good enough. Before the invention of refrigerators the only way to cool objects was an insulated box filled with ice. During the time the insulated box was around it only worked for a short time.Although the insulated box also required lots of ice it cooled things very good. Ice was hard to be obtained in summer so it made it even harder to cool things(Burton 52). Before the 1830s it was not possible to manufacture ice. Before the 1830s ice had to be gathered in the winter. The ice that was gathered was stored until summer and then sold for profit. William Cotton saw an opportunity to organize a company and he did.(Burton 52) John Custer became William Cotton’s partner in 1840 in the ice business. To produce ice they made a dam for ice production in the winter. The dam had problems and collapsed which was a big problem(Burton 52). Custer abandoned Mr. Cotton in 1875. Custer left cotton all on his own. John Beard helped Custer build a dam and got partnership of the company as a reward. In 1905 Beard was basically running the whole company. Then in 1905 the companies name was changed to Beard Ice company( Burton 52). Beard now had a slogan. The slog...

In the center of the Gininngagap, the ice and fire met and formed the great giant (Jötunn) Ymir. From Ymir more giants formed. As he slept, he had sweat a giant from each of his armpits, a male and a female. And from his legs, a third giant formed. These giants were the first frost giants (Jötnar). The Iceman constitutes the first prehistoric human ever found with his everyday clothing and equipment, and presumably going about his normal business; other similarly intact bodies from prehistory have been either carefully buried or sacrificed. He brings us literally face to face with the remote past (Paul Bahn, 1996). When Otzi died up on the mountain 5,300 years ago, his final resting place was a trench that ironically saved him. With his body face down over a bolder, large rocks lined the small nook he was in. Eventually, massive amounts of snow fell over the body, the snow compacted and froze forming a glacier. Over thousands of years the glacier built up layers and inched its way forward. Because of the trench Otzi was in, the ice creaked along above him, completely shielding him from any outside influences for many years.
When he was discovered on September 19th, 1991, Iceman had a coat made of goat skin and shoes made from grass and the skins of bear and deer. Scientists say he is about 5,300 years old. They found signs of his last meal, which consisted of vegetables, some meat, and grain in his stomach. Iceman is now on display at South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Italy. He is stored in a cell that is kept at a constant temperature of -6 degrees Celsius.
Ice structuring proteins are natural products that form part of a normal diet through their occurrence at high concentration in fish and vegetables. Their diversity and various activities show that the proteins are intriguing parts for use in preserving the quality of foods during chilling frozen storage. Large ice crystals destroy the texture and taste of ice cream. So, use of ice structuring protein is suggested as natural ice crystal growth inhibitor in such products. However, selection of ice structuring protein is based on its easy availability, its changes in certain chemical properties during processing of products, its taste and its related impact on food and food properties, safety and cost.
