In one study done by Heyland et al. (2002) with family members of ICU patients through questionnaires the majority of family members were highly satisfied with nursing skill and competence, the compassion and respect given to the patient, completeness of information received, respect and compassion shown to the patient and family member pain management by nurses in ICU. They were least satisfied frequency of physician communication. It suggests caring culture, interactions and communication with families lead to improvements in satisfaction.

Changes were acceptable and welcomed that provides and support compassionate care. Patients and family members were taken as a center of focus. Individual care and person centered approach was adopted in my workplace. Each person is taken as an individual in ICU and care is provided as per need. There is open communication among staff, patients and family members regarding patient’s care. Their values, beliefs and decision were respected this result sense of valued for them. The sense of fear among patients and family members tend to decrease when patients feel that a nurse truly cares. There was effective communication where family members and patients were allowed to share their concerns, issues, feelings and choice hence this allow sharing small details of patients that may help in accurate diagnosis, actions are taken accordingly, lead better care and reduce hospital stay. Compassion provides a sense to patients that their condition and concerns are being heard, recognized and acted upon. Workplace culture of effective communication with patients and visitors helps to maintain good relationship, positive impact, provide satisfaction and efficient care to patients as per need.

• Nurses in ICU must focus on infection control by following aseptic techniques which helps critically ill patients from suffering nosocomial infection. Proper hand washing protocol is important in ICU. Multidisciplinary approach is to be handling properly for the management and control of infection in every single patient (Mukhopadhyay 2018).

• Every nurse in ICU must be well skilled and competencies regarding use and operation of advance technologies and machine used for patients care. They must be able to identify and detects any deformities hence inform immediately to the concern party so that patients will prevent from deterioration of health. . Culture of safety must be adopted in workplace. Patients must be free from harm error or mistakes. Psychological as well emotional aspects of patients and family members must be supported by nurses.
