So far my interests in public health stretch from school health coordinator to focused epidemiological studies regarding childhood risk factors for different conditions that they may develop. I am still not completely sure where I want to shift my interests, however, because my first passions when I chose this path were solely infectious disease. I learned soon that I was not going to have as many opportunities as I had hoped when it comes to infectious disease tracking and epidemiology. At this specific point in time, I have been looking forward to working with and observing the risk factors and behaviors of the youth. Ideally, becoming a school health educator or even a public health advisor would be extremely rewarding and intriguing to …show more content…
Ms. Hamilton gave me the advice to take time in between my bachelor’s degree and amy master’s degree to gain work experience, find what area of public health suits me personally, and explore the different schools to earn my master’s degree in public health. The first piece of advice she gave that really stuck with me was finding that area of interest, the part of public health that drives me and fuels that fire where my passions are. This advice resonates with me because I do not want to waste my time with a topic of study for an extensive amount of time that would not intrigue me, really fuel my drive in public health, or be beneficial in my career path. The second piece of advice that I duly noted was that I do not need to figure everything out at once. There is absolutely no rush to this process and if I do rush through it all, I will not be able to make memories, allow the necessary changes to occur, and in general allowing myself to be unsure. This means taking time off between my spans of education, getting a real feel for the field I am passionate about dedicating my life to, and taking advantage of the opportunities to network properly. Lastly, Ms. Hamilton walked me through a basic process of what it was like to research different schools of public health with …show more content…
Professionally speaking, I believe I am flexible in most environments and I can handle stress very well. I work well relaxed, but I tend to work even better when I am under a little bit of stress. Along with transfering stress as energy, I believe I have a positive outlook and pride myself on thinking outside of the box. I believe I am more introverted and shy, however, I have a voice and I know exactly how to use it. I utilize these strengths through my academic career by persevering through my large workload for my courses, taking different approaches to projects, and using my voice for networking and reaching out to professors and researchers. I know internally I get moments of insecurity where I want to say something, ask a question, or simply reach out for various reason, which hinder my determination and journey. Fortunately, I do not let much stop me for too long because I do not want anything to get in my way for so long that I lose my
The knowledge that I will obtain in the public health portion of the program will allow me to be better prepared to understand the social and environmental determinants of health that contribute to the development of diseases, and this will allow me to care for my patients more effectively. As these and other public health issues become more prominent, having a well-trained workforce that is equipped to address community-level health concerns is vital. As a profession, PAs are well educated as primary care clinicians and are able to handle a wide variety of common health care disorders. Adding a master’s degree in public health equips PAs with an expanded skill set which can be used to manage the health of entire communities, specifically those which are
After being lost, puzzled, and indecisive for a while now about which health-related career I desire the most, I finally made up my mind and selected a major. I decided to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science after accomplishing an Associate’s Degree in Science, which is an open field filled with opportunities for several health professions. I realized that a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science is the way to go as it enables me to switch back and forth between all of the health occupations that I worship. Down the road, I can even further my education and specialize in a specific domain that I am willing to commit to. In general, Health Science is a major where professionals undergo several tasks such as improving their community’s health and overall wellbeing, get involved in nutrition related conditions, use epidemiological techniques, counteract various infections, and enrich physical and daily health routines.
Everyday, the US citizen utilizes countless aspects of public health. From clean drinking water and sanitation, to adequate housing and a safe work environment, the list of public health services is virtually endless. Since public health is such a major part of everyday life, it is no surprise that the list of careers options in public health is also quite extensive. Infectious disease, maternal health, drug safety, nutrition, education and the military are just a few of the many fields of public health mentioned in Beth Seltzer’s book “101+ Careers in Public Health”. Today’s focus will be on infectious disease, specifically on the work of the epidemiologist.
Listening often allows me to help others sort through their problems. Combining this trait with my love for working with children, I began mentoring children who had HIV/AIDs on a weekly basis beginning my freshman year. Whether I helped them with their homework or just listened to see how their day went, I tried my best to connect with my pupils. Thus, as a student in SPRINGH, I would be very happy to conduct HIV/AIDS research or anything related to pediatrics since I already interact with many of them on a long term basis. It would be interesting to be able to gain a social and an academic perspective so that I can have a more holistic view. Experiences such as these will shape the kind of educational and personal experiences I want out of the two and a half years I have left. I am certain that the Summer Program for Research in Global Health program is the next step in my journey here at Washington University in St.
Education is neither linear nor static. It requires evolution and fluctuations. I received my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at UNC Charlotte, and now it is time for a prime conversion to be made. Attending the Masters of Public Health program at UNC Charlotte would open the door for me to pursue my career aspirations in health care. Specifically, I am interested in epidemiological methods in community health. My ambition, perseverance, and work ethic have brought me to a high point, and enrolling in the Masters in Public Health program would raise that threshold even higher.
I have an unquenchable desire to learn and develop the mind. I believe, one of the greatest ways to better care for individuals, families, communities and the population was to pursue the Master of Public Health Program and concentrate on Community Health Education. With the Master of Public Health degree, I can better understand how to implement, plan and evaluate health promotion and disease prevention programs to better serve different communities. I want to pursue a master’s degree to focus on my career interest more in-depth. Choosing to pursue the MPH program is a lifelong self-fulfillment, because there is no greater satisfaction than knowing I am going to wake up every day to improve the lives of people all around the world. Higher education is rewarding and can open the door to greater opportunities. I aspire a career with a purpose, that is why I chose to complete my graduate

I believe the study of epidemiology is an art to understanding the overall health of the general population. Throughout my life, I have had multiple core parts of my identity that I have actively incorporated into my activities and choices: I have a profound desire to impact health and wellness of vulnerable communities, an enjoyment of analytical thinking, and a love for innovation. These characteristics have made me decide to pursue epidemiology at Rollins School of Public Health. I have always been motivated by the prevention efforts for disease and treatment interventions on a public health level. As a second year MPH student, Rollins has enabled me to thrive in the field of epidemiology and has molded my specific interests, specifically
I am applying for a Masters of Science degree in Public Health for the academic year 2013/2014. My objective is to gain advanced training in planning, implementing, and evaluating public health intervention programmes. As a licensed dental hygienist, I am a professional member of the health care team who integrates the roles of educator, consumer advocate, clinician, administrator or manager, and researcher to support total health of the public through the promotion of oral health and wellness. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work in the field of public health and my short-term goal is to improve my understanding of public health issues so that I can work more effectively in the public health sector. My long-term goal is to address community health problems in particular oral health problems by combining the principles of dental hygiene and public health. This will enable me to improve oral health education in primary and special education schools as well as to promote the prevention of oral diseases in high-risk populations. In addition, I want to contribute to the field of public health by providing training to individuals who are interested in working in this area. I take great pleasure in pursuing a Masters in Public Health at The University of the West Indies because of the university’s history and excellence in academia especially in the field of research. Additionally, the field placement component impresses me because it will provide opportunities for me to gain relevant practical experience in a healthcare setting.
Public Health is the most important aspect of medicine. My studies in Public Health will go a very long way to help me grasp the proper concepts and tools needed to work with the government to bring sustainable solutions to health care problems faced by various communities today. Public Health issues touch almost every family in the USA today. I know that if the health sector was better funded, better equipped, and better managed, with clear and effective policies, this kind of suffering could been avoided. I want to go into public health because I believe strongly that I can contribute not only to my fellow Americans, but also to people all over the world. I anticipate that through proper planning, interventions and implementation of effective policies, one will be able to bring about much-needed change through my work with an NGO or non-profit affiliated with the UN.
Physicians and veterinarians are able to help individuals with problems and diseases. But with public health, one would be enabled to help both humans and animals on a large scale, even at global level. Today, I firmly believe Public Health is one of the most crucial aspects of Medicine. It, indeed, can help prevent and bring solutions to health issues like no other field. Furthermore Veterinary Public Health is the most right choice for me. With the knowledge I gain in the Veterinary Public Health specialization (VPH) as an option within the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program, I would be able to fulfil my dreams of striving for a healthy society. My passion, academic background, work experience, and cultural competency will contribute to the student body and graduate Veterinary Public Health
’s volunteer in an enlightened health organization (non-profit) which is working in Houston to promote the public health through scientific research and spreading health awareness among the people through offering free screening for blood glucose, blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, free lab tests, offering health pamphlets and ensuring access to discounted physician visits to the uninsured people. Reading the curriculum of your epidemiology track made me more fascinated with your program. I will have the great honor and passion to pursue a master's degree in public health from such a prestigious and reputable school. My ultimate goal is to improve the practice and delivery of public health as a leader and teacher in the clinical setting. . I am excited to start my studies with the hope of making a meaningful contribution to this field and to the community.
As a Medical Laboratory Science student I have acquired a solid background in infectious disease pathology and testing procedures and I believe that the skills and knowledge I have will grant me an upper-hand during the MPH in Epidemiology program. It will also enable me to contribute to research from a different perspective on the various disease patterns and how best to tackle prevention and control issues in public health. I plan to take the Board of Certification to acquire the initials “MLS (ASCP)”. I aspire to make an impact not only in health care in the United States, but also globally in underdeveloped countries like Nigeria. The U-M SPH vision exactly parallels mine of using various factors of research, education and community involvement to inspire more effective solutions to health care issues.
How will a master’s degree in public health help prepare you to address these problems?
Beyond my future aspirations, I am interested in public health due to learning more about the field during my work experience. This summer, I worked in a research lab at Fox Chase Cancer Center where we studied Racial Disparities in Head and Neck Cancer. This research study focused on studying not only race, but also on an individual’s “quality of life” that led them to develop cancer. This connection between physical health to other aspects including mental,
