I believe that health care is an essential resource that should be available to all regardless of socio-economic status. Dr. Paul Farmer is one of my inspirations for what selfless service of others looks like in the field of healthcare. Surprisingly I first became interested in the work he is doing with Partners in Health through an Anthropology course I took in my sophomore year. I had in mind to be involved in some form of health organization or a public health research oriented career, but I was not certain on how to approach this dream. I thought that I had to go through the route of research in one of the core sciences before transitioning to public health. This past summer, I was privileged to work in the molecular biology research laboratory …show more content…
As a Medical Laboratory Science student I have acquired a solid background in infectious disease pathology and testing procedures and I believe that the skills and knowledge I have will grant me an upper-hand during the MPH in Epidemiology program. It will also enable me to contribute to research from a different perspective on the various disease patterns and how best to tackle prevention and control issues in public health. I plan to take the Board of Certification to acquire the initials “MLS (ASCP)”. I aspire to make an impact not only in health care in the United States, but also globally in underdeveloped countries like Nigeria. The U-M SPH vision exactly parallels mine of using various factors of research, education and community involvement to inspire more effective solutions to health care issues. Public health impacts lives and can revive communities that have lost due to the devastation of diseases. For example, the Ebola epidemic that occurred served as a reminder that we are not fighting the war on diseases here in the United States alone. In this age of globalization, we are all intricately connected and no one is completely isolated. Since that epidemic, various training and educational programs have been set up to more effectively prepare for and prevent similar epidemics in the future. I believe that is how public health contributes to the greater good. The U-M SPH especially is one of the pinnacle institutions that are in the forefront of public health and medical
Public health is a vast field that encompasses many issues. Generally speaking, it deals with the safety and protection of people in a society as well as education
Serving in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service is a dream opportunity for someone like me who is very passionate about Science and Medicine, as well as serving our country. It also provides an avenue for me to exercise my knowledge, skills, and abilities that match the organization's approach to fulfilling its mission. These "KSA" includes my promptness in responding to public health needs, my leadership and excellence in executing public health practices, and my ability to help advance public health science.
Public health is a practice that focuses on the promotion of physical, mental, and social health and well-being and on the prevention of disease and disability among groups of people. It differs from the practice of medicine because it focuses on prevention rather than cures and addresses the needs of people as a whole rather than as individual persons. (Thivierge, Bethany, (2016).)
...ntralizing and taking a holistic approach towards health for underserved communities, could lead to improved show rates, as well as, knowledge and communication between patient and health care providers. Especially in under marginalized communities, where advocacy and resources are lacking and needed the most, the manner in which health officials effectively educate and provide the resources to these communities need to be strategically assessed to translate scientific research into practice. With the value and importance of public health increasing, I desire to address the social determinants of health to reduce health disparities through utilization of technology and partnerships with community organizers. Thus, I believe a degree from Oregon State will be an excellent opportunity for me to merge my skills, backgrounds, and passions, turning a vision into reality.
Based on the core values of integrity, professionalism, caring, teamwork, and stewardship, I will be able to develop and implement health related policies and programs that are available to the entire population, regardless of cultural beliefs, racial or ethnic background, socioeconomic resources, or individual literacy. My vision of my role in public health is to be an advocate and voice for alienated populations. My core values will help guide my ethical decision making in public health, by making decisions that are based on my spiritual belief that God created man in his image and I am my brother’s keeper, for I am responsible and accountable for how I treat, treat my
As I walked down the gravel road, breathing became more difficult as the harsh sun beat on my back. I did not know if I could withstand it much longer. All I could think about was the sun - until I made eye contact with a little boy. His oversized t-shirt was drenched in sweat and dirt. He was breathing heavily, fighting tears to no avail. It was then, the large mass on the side of his forehead became more obvious. I could no longer selfishly feel the heat - only empathy for I knew the root of his pain: denial of proper medical assistance.
Right from my High school days I had a strong inclination to various programmes/ activities in health sector. My Interest in the subject has grown as it refers to "the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private, communities and individuals which is concerned with threats to health. I have come to terms with the fact that there is an enormous proportion of subject to be assimilated; to focus on public health intervention to improve health and quality of life through prevention and treatment of disease and other physical and mental health conditions. Therefore I want to take up a vital role in disease prevention efforts in both the developing world and in developed countries.
I first considered a public health career when I interned at the Ghana Health Service Family Health Department as an undergraduate student. Participating in national meetings focused on strategies to reduce maternal mortality in Ghana, I recognized that, in order to create sustainable advances, it is crucial to address the underlying social inequalities that exacerbate adverse health outcomes. To advance this goal, I am seeking admission into the Global Health and Population Doctoral Program at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Education is neither linear nor static. It requires evolution and fluctuations. I received my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at UNC Charlotte, and now it is time for a prime conversion to be made. Attending the Masters of Public Health program at UNC Charlotte would open the door for me to pursue my career aspirations in health care. Specifically, I am interested in epidemiological methods in community health. My ambition, perseverance, and work ethic have brought me to a high point, and enrolling in the Masters in Public Health program would raise that threshold even higher.
Healthcare administration is a field that is often overlooked, but is essentially the beating heart of any healthcare organization. With more and more hospital, and clinics, and other healthcare organizations popping up everywhere there is a need for people like me to manage the day-to-day operations. I am choosing to apply to this program because I want to study how the U.S. healthcare system operates. I want to learn the essential skills of operating a healthcare facility such as managing a budget, reducing healthcare costs, analyzing the efficiency of an organization and proposing ways to improve it. This program is going to give me the necessary education and skills so I can carry out my goal of being a healthcare administrator.
I have chosen Public Health as my career path because I have a passion for making a difference in people’s lives and helping others achieve their goals. Also, I chose healthcare as a career because health does not only focus on the physical aspects of wellness, but it applies to all areas of wellness, such as, intellectual, social, spiritual, financial, occupational, environmental and emotional wellness. Moreover, Public Health is a challenging, diverse and dynamic field. My philosophy of health is very simple, to prevent, improve and educate the lives of individuals, families, communities and the population. Besides, there is no safer way to touch people’s lives than through public
Public health can be defined as the approach to medicine that is concerned with the health of the community as a whole. It is about protecting and improving the health of families and communities through promotion of healthy lifestyles, research for disease, injury prevention, detection, and control of infectious diseases. Many factors contribute to a long life, including demographics, socioeconomics, genetics, environment, and behaviors. It is important to assess these factors when attempting to increase life expectancy and improve health status, because positive health practices result in higher life expectancies and better health.
Public Health is the most important aspect of medicine. My studies in Public Health will go a very long way to help me grasp the proper concepts and tools needed to work with the government to bring sustainable solutions to health care problems faced by various communities today. Public Health issues touch almost every family in the USA today. I know that if the health sector was better funded, better equipped, and better managed, with clear and effective policies, this kind of suffering could been avoided. I want to go into public health because I believe strongly that I can contribute not only to my fellow Americans, but also to people all over the world. I anticipate that through proper planning, interventions and implementation of effective policies, one will be able to bring about much-needed change through my work with an NGO or non-profit affiliated with the UN.
Physicians and veterinarians are able to help individuals with problems and diseases. But with public health, one would be enabled to help both humans and animals on a large scale, even at global level. Today, I firmly believe Public Health is one of the most crucial aspects of Medicine. It, indeed, can help prevent and bring solutions to health issues like no other field. Furthermore Veterinary Public Health is the most right choice for me. With the knowledge I gain in the Veterinary Public Health specialization (VPH) as an option within the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program, I would be able to fulfil my dreams of striving for a healthy society. My passion, academic background, work experience, and cultural competency will contribute to the student body and graduate Veterinary Public Health

Reading the curriculum of your epidemiology track made me more fascinated with your program. I will have the great honor and passion to pursue a master's degree in public health from such a prestigious and reputable school. My ultimate goal is to improve the practice and delivery of public health as a leader and teacher in the clinical setting. . I am excited to start my studies with the hope of making a meaningful contribution to this field and to the community.
