As a full time student and a part time worker, the demanding course load of physics classes in addition to working for 20-30 hours per week during any time of the year, I am usually too overwhelmed to be able to participate in an extracurricular activity that requires regular schedule or demands significant dedication. However, before I started my first year at college, I was a semi-professional soccer player who had been playing soccer regularly for about four hours per day for seven consecutive years. Despite my talent and interest in soccer, my family never allowed me to turn my semi-professional career as a soccer player, playing either for fun or for winning local tournaments in Iran, into a profession due to fear of serious injuries which my family could not afford when I was younger. Times passed and during the last year of high school, I found a new passion that was Physics. Regarding my intellectual interests, I love philosophy, particularly, the philosophy of religion. In my opinion, philosophy complements the Physics. In a sense, I agree with Paul Dirac’s description of theoretical Physics that states, “…theoretical physics is actual philosophy”. I spend my time reading, listening, and watching philosophers debating about various …show more content…
My volunteering time at PLC was limited to a few weeks due to the start of demanding course loads of junior and senior undergraduate years; however, I spent quite a bit of time at PCC as a tutor. My duty was to tutor Mathematics (up to introductory Linear Algebra) and Physics (general Physics) at PCC’s Student Learning Center. I volunteered regularly for 2 to 4 hours per day as a tutor during my first and second year as college student at
One extracurricular activity that I am very passionate about would be the FFA. FFA has taught me so many things and it has brought me so many places. I 've learned how to be a great speaker from different events my advisor has challenged me to do. Public speaking has taken me so many places and I have attributed most of my success to FFA. When I was a freshmen I competed and received gold in the creed speaking competition. As a sophomore, I tried extemporaneous speaking and received a gold for that as well. As a junior I really wanted to challenge myself so I took up agricultural sales as my winter career development experience. I ended up being recognized as the state runner up individual agriculture salesman as well as the 15th best agricultural sales man in the nation. Now as a senior, I have been going around speaking at different school board meetings, advocating
In my life, I had not had the chance to be a part of something that influenced me much, until I joined football my freshman year in high school. Joining football was perhaps the most devoted and wisest thing that I did because shortly after joining I began to see changes for the better, and from then I saw the person that I wanted to be in the future. In other words, it shaped the person that I am today and will be for the rest of my life. Not only did the sport influence me but it also equipped me with a new mindset that affects me today in my decision making skills, time management and many other beneficial life virtues. I believe that these virtues will bring me success in the nearest future because I feel confident about myself and I feel more in control in my life through my actions, all thanks to simply joining what seemed to be a “regular” extracurricular.
Throughout the long history of college sports, football in particular, athletes have played squarely off of scholarships or as walk-ons. The NCAA generates millions without paying the athletes a dime. Recent years have caused huge problems in the country with paying athletes for playing. Scandal after scandal has rocked the image of college football and doesn’t appear to be getting better. The NCAA prohibits student-athletes from receiving improper benefits and selling memorabilia for a profit when they should be paying its athletes.
Although I am a fairly well-rounded student outside of school, I focus on the passions I am adept at: art and music. Creativity and thinking outside the box are skills that I have possessed and have developed over the years. It gives me great joy when I use my artistic and musical talents for the benefit of others, such as playing the piano and violin at a dinner honoring senior citizens or drawing pictures for young children at a Bible camp. Their smiles in appreciation of my service are priceless. My drive for excellence in my passions show that I give one hundred percent in all that I
My involvement in the Science Olympiad community has stemmed from the 7th grade and my dedication is unremitting. If I had to continue only one activity, Science Olympiad would be at the forefront because of the opportunities it has provided me to learn and grow. Since junior high, it has provided me a medium to excel my passion for science and learn more about the world around us. My eagerness to learn has been matched and cultivated by the dedicated coaches and volunteers and I cannot let my drive perish while attending college. The community dedicated time to assist me and I have, as well, dedicated time to teach younger Science Olympians. In college, whether it is being involved with collegiate level science competitions and/or volunteering
Each game, my passion grew. Each team, new memories and lifelong friends were made. Sports sometimes make me feel disappointment and at loss; but it taught me to be resilient to a lot of things, like how to thrive under pressure and come out on top. Being the team captain of my high school’s football and lacrosse team showed me how having a big responsibility to bring a group together to work as one is compared to many situations in life. Currently playing varsity football, varsity lacrosse, and track I take great pride in the activities I do. Staying on top of my academics, being duel enrolled at Indian River State College, working three nights a week, and two different sport practices after school each day shaped my character to having a hard work
Were there no separate forms---entities such as the unmoved mover at the pinnacle of the cosmos---which are without matter and are not of the physical world, physics would be what Aristotle calls first philosophy. As there are such separate entities, physics is dependent on these, and is only a second philosophy.
I have a very active lifestyle resulting in a wide variety of interests outside of the classroom. I have always had a deep life-long passion for sports. I represented my high schools varsity volleyball and basketball teams as well as partaking in an adult slow-pitch softball league throughout high school and into college. Other sports and activities I enjoy include Tae-kwon-do, soccer, fast-pitch softball, tennis, callisthenic and weighted workouts, running, hiking and biking.
After watching 4 of the Youtube videos from the list, it gave me a better idea on how to be successful in navigating for a job. I plan on looking for career opportunities by networking and doing an internship to better understand the sports industry. Being a student-athlete gives me an advantage in this aspect because I have a lot of connections through administrators and coaches that I can take advantage of. The message that I want employers to receive about my skills and abilities is that I am extremely hard working and able to adjust to any situation. Being a Division 1 athlete for four years has shown me how to best play a role in an organization and the skills necessary to be successful as a group and individually. I will communicate
The multitudes of extracurricular and academic activities I participate in were chosen because of their focus on my interests. I want to pursue a career in computer engineering and/or biological engineering. In order to help me accomplish this I carefully consider how extracurricular and academic activities will assist me in the future. Currently I am participating in several rigorous academic courses such as AP Physics C and AP Calculus BC to gear me towards a college environment, as well as a variety of clubs that focus on engineering and the sciences. A vast majority of the classes I take are advanced placement, which gives me the chance to obtain college credit before entering college. Advance placement classes also challenge me with faster paced instruction, which prepare me for the speed and difficulty of college level courses. I am currently taking AP Biology, AP Computer Science A, , AP Literature and Composition, AP U.S. Government and Politics, Pre-AP Chinese IV, and Honors Independent Research. In terms of extracurricular activities, I currently participate in the Stock Market Club, Science and Engineering Club, our school’s FRC team, and Chinese Club. In my free time I enjoy building computers, putting together parts lists for computers, programming, playing video games, and learning about various technical jobs and new computing technologies such as server administrator and quantum computing.
A degree in Football Business and Finance strongly appeals to me as it combines my interest in the business sector with my ultimate passion for the football industry. My invested interest in football goes beyond just attending the games as I have developed a further interest into how a football club is run and the business management and financial decisions that allow a club to establish itself in the UK and International market place. I am also curious about the process in which a club trades internationally and how to overcome issues such as boundaries created by differing currencies. As a devote football fan myself I know I will be at an advantage when trying to understand what it is that football fans want and how much influence they have over a club and the game, as through regularly attending football
The PD program does increase the capacity of faculty because we learn new strategies for learning and engaging learners. By looking at data, faculty is able to align their instruction to the school’s vision and mission. Twice a month (at least) all faculty attend the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) training workshops. These are geared towards instruction, district initiatives, and student achievement. Professional Development is provided for teachers to assist them with the required materials to guarantee all students obtain highly quality instruction.
I 'm involved in numerous extracurricular activities that will help me achieve my goals. For example, I am the current treasurer of (FBLA) The Future Business Leaders of America, Member of (DECA) it 's an international association for marketing that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in finance, hospitality and management. Additionally, I am an active member with Upstanders, a club that stands up against bullying and hate; (ASA) The African Student Association and the National Art Honor Society. I am also on the football and track teams. Track is a very competitive sport; it teaches me to endure and prepare me for the competitive real world. All of these extra-curricular activities are preparing me for future obstacles on my collegiate
“Leadership is the ability to take an average team of individuals and transform them into superstars” stated by Jonas Falk, the CEO of OrganicLife. As a point guard, throughout my life, they are the heart and leaders of the game. The specialized position coordinates basketball plays similar to a quarterback in football. We are not the primary scorers; we assist in getting the ball passed to the right player at the right time. Basketball is a team sport, but in a sense, my position resembles the leader of the team.
After all, physics can (it seems to me) give us insights into metaphysics, since both seek different ways to do the same thing; psychology, sociology, anthropology, and archeology can give us insights into epistemology; various "soft" sciences dealing with comparative cultures can provide food for thought in ethics, and so on.
