I’m Brittany Broderick, currently I’m studying at Borough of Manhattan Community College. My field of interest is Film and Television. I chose this field of work / studies to continue to learn and network amongst those who are as passionate as I am about film. What led me to pursue a career in film was due to me moving back to New York after my initial career interest didnt work. Ultimately my goal is to become a Writer - Director, also known as an Auteur. I am interested telling deep, touching and compelling stories using a script and visuals to capture the audience's attention. I would like to know about their experience being in the Entertainment Industry, and why they chose this field of work, and to get an understanding of their joys, difficulties, setbacks, and milestones and how they have risen above, learned and overcame those difficulties. First, I will introduce Stuart Ruston, he is the assistant to J. Polson the Director of the T.V show I am currently working on. The show is a Hollywood Studio Production based in New York. The show is about a New York based Sherlock Holmes. Stuart got his start in the industry in 2009. From having experience in theatre, he then went on to film school in pursuit of production. He enjoyed entertaining people, reading scripts, and developing ideas, and being on a film set. From speaking with Stuart, I was able to get an understanding of why he chose film as a career, and where he wants to take his experiences. I also learned what he has learned, accomplished, and I also received some tips on how to better my career. Through his interests, he has worked as a creative executive assistant, talent manager’s assistant, production coordinator, and currently he is working as an Assistant to a Producer /
The Entertainment Industry is an expanding industry with numerous career opportunities especially for the quick learning students in today’s world. I chose to study the entertainment industry because I have always had a passion for it. I grew up with music always playing on the radio and if the radio was off, the television was tuned into some show. I know many people listen to music and watch television all the time, but there is so much more to this industry. Being so passionate has led me to studying specific things in the industry and learning the ins and outs of it, which is helping me to find a potential career. There are many people in the industry that I look up to and one person, who has made it in particular, is Debra Rathwell.
I've always wanted to be an actor. I've always liked performing. We used to live in Alberta, and I didn't have much opportunity there. But we moved here {Vancouver, BC}, and I got an agent, and here I am.
As you probably could have assumed, I love to watch any film I can get my hands on, and my once strong friendships are hanging on by a thread due to hours spent helping on short films of mine. Unlike some applicants, I come from a farming community with no film connection, none of my classmates are interested in pursuing a career like film, my school offers no film courses, and I have no film connection currently. Surely I sound like a poor fit for the Hollywood Reporter’s top film school, you may even wonder why I, without a single connection, would choose this field. Hopeful it may be understood me more through my background.
For his current job, radio personality and promotion assistant, he goes on the road and DJ's for special events both live and not. Most recently he and another disc jockey, Kid Fresh, hosted a step show in front of the UC at the University. He has done parties, concerts, charity events, and many other functions. About two weeks ago he also covered the after party for Method Man and Red Man, two nationally known rap music artists.Though he has only worked at the station for a few years he has already started on his way up the corporate later.
RH: What inspired you to pursue a career in the entertainment industry and especially as a screenwriter? What kind of training have you had to prepare for these jobs?
Growing up I had always been asked the infamous question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?", and my answer had always been a shrug or a simple "I don 't know yet". If I was asked the same question now, I could confidently and very passionately say, "I want to be a doctor; a humanitarian who brings positive change in someone 's life.". It seems like a very general statement but I truly hope to one day become somebody who can use her expertise and profession to help others.

Best known for his unique and non-linear style and to many people as the best director of the past decade, Christopher Jonathan James Nolan or just simply Christopher Nolan, is one of the most talented and influential film directors and screenwriters of our time. He, like most directors have never studied film and is a self-taught filmmaker. In this essay I am going to write about his early life and how he got into filmmaking. His early career and his rise to fame with Batman movies, his personal life and the influences he have had on the film industry which makes him one of the best directors of all time and my personal favorite.
Introduction: The film industry is a very vast and competitive ground. Actors for every role are chosen for their talent and popularity. It is very hard for new emerging actors to get a good start. Producers and directors choose actors who fit the role exactly.
In New Hollywood films, the director was the key role, rather than the studio. The Hollywood studio system, an assembly-line process that had been rolling sturdy entertainment vehicles out of its plants for decades, had finally started to show its age in the early part of the decade (Rafferty, n.p). The once reliable stars were getting old and so were the directors. Moviegoers were drifting away to television and the young audience had more desires that were becoming incomprehensible to the old Hollywood powers.
Upon entering this course, I was very devoted and prepared to continue my film production education. This was the moment for me to expand my knowledge and creative intellect now that I had made it to the production part of the program. Not only expand my knowledge and creativity but also to grow as a person and experience fresh new challenges. I was ready to venture more into the world of production with hands on assignments to showcase my creative mind to the rest of the class. Throughout the composition, sound and this final short film project, my skill level dramatically increased.
to focus on manufacturing quality sound, but one has to work with high-class celebrities who may be very demanding. Again, nevertheless, the opportunities are endless.
I decided to be a director when I was fourteen years old. I was in my tenth grade and studied about world wars in history. I was inspired by the stories of the wars and started writing stories based on the same subject. I had little clue what to do with those stories until I watched ‘Saving Private Ryan’ .This movie based on second world war inspired me to be a filmmaker.
“Acting is not about being someone different. It’s finding the similarity in what is apparently different, then finding myself in there.” ― Meryl Streep. I love exploring and gaining knowledge about the beautiful craft of acting. During my journey of being an actor, I notice there are two types of actors: stage and film. Stage and film actors are different in their times of rehearsal, their relationship with an audience, and their emotional challenges.
Offering the unique ability to visually and audibly convey a story, films remain a cornerstone in modern society. Combined with a viewer’s desire to escape the everyday parameters of life, and the excitement of enthralling themselves deep into another world, many people enjoy what films stand to offer. With the rising popularity of films across the world, the amount of film makers increases every day. Many technological innovations mark the advancement of film making, but the essential process remains the same. Pre-production accounts for everything taken place before any shooting occurs, followed by the actual production of the film, post-production will then consist of piecing the film together, and finally the film must reach an audience. Each step of this process contributes to the final product, and does so in a unique right. The process of film making will now start chronologically, stemming from the idea of the story, producing that story into a film, editing that footage together, and finally delivering that story to its viewers.
