For this week’s assignment, we are asked to look for a song that is inspired by an older song. It can sound like it, or it can borrow lyrics from it. After I read the assignment and understood what is being asked from us, I then jumped in the opportunity to research about it. I never realized that most hits nowadays are derived from old songs, it’s actually amazing. According to Steve Jobs (1994) “Good Artists copy, Great artists steal”, this quote applies to most music nowadays. I don’t live by that quote but I believe that he just pointed out the obvious with what he said. My research brought me to a site that shows the roots of a song, it can tell you where it was derived or if you searched an older song, it will tell you what songs were derived from it. The Beatles’ I Want to Hold Your Hand is one of my favorite songs, and it’s a classic so I went with that, I looked and found one song that stood out the most. The song that …show more content…
I Want to Hold Your Hand is about a guy who is in love with a girl and wants the girl to be his. It’s a romantic song that talks about his feelings. It’s such a feel good song and a very sweet one. I Want to Hold Your Hand shows a lot of The Beatle’s personality when it comes to music, John Lennon and Paul McCartney really knows how to write good music that can appeal to most people even until today and that is beautiful.
A Letter to the Beatles was written by Ivan Ulz, Glen Larsen, and Bruce Bellard. It’s basically mocking The Beatles’ song. I’m a big fan of The Beatles but this song made me smile because of how catchy it is. It sampled the chorus of I Want To Hold Your Hand and it talks about a girl who is in love with The Beatles but is rejected by them saying that her love wasn’t enough and that she should send them twenty-five cents for an autographed picture, and one dollar bill for a fan club
Whenever I play this song, I can’t help but remember my childhood. My parents struggled financially but, that was never an excuse for them. They always took my brothers and I out on small adventures. One of the most memorable memories I get when I play this song is when my parents would take us out to park to have a barbecue, while my brothers and I ran through the park till we became tired and hungry. Whenever I need a break from the world, I listen to this song just to remind myself of those special moments, even though those days won’t ever return, they are memories I will always treasure.
The Beatles are known, respectively, as the fathers of modern pop music. After their first #1 hit “Please Please Me” was released in 1963 the Beatles were set in motion to become one of the most influential groups of musicians to ever rock our world. With over forty-nine records, 37 #1’s, and thirty- four number one albums (the highest amount of any band in history), there is no denying that they made a monumental ripple in the musical world. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr surprisingly all come from humble beginnings in a town that, until their superstardom, was barely noticed on the map. Liverpool, being kn...
Finally, this assignment has shown how music can be updated to suit different generations. Through the process of evaluating both songs, and comparing the two, one could say that the differences in the second song help refresh the first version. Although others may remark ‘old is gold’.
The Beatles and the Beach Boys are two of the most recognized, well-known and most popular musical acts of the 1960’s right through to the 1970’s. I will be focusing on the group acts rather than solo performers such as John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison of the Beatles, who took their own stylistic approach to their music after the Beatles’ separation. Each group’s arrangement and use of instruments classify them as part of the overall associated sound and typical subject matter of songs in the 1960’s, yet remain different enough to distinguish between each group’s desired sound.
To understand Lennon’s attempt at displaying his raw emotions through this song, one must also understand the influence behind Lennon’s decision. Bob Dylan influenced all of the Beatles in a significant way in their early Beatlemania years: Dylan introduced the Beatles to marijuana, mistaking “I can’t hide” for “I get high” in “She Loves You”. While the Beatles experimented with several energy drugs, they had not yet used marijuana, and they soon discovered that it bestowed the group with the ability to relax and escape from the stress of dealing with Beatlemania. After ...
British rock ‘n’ roll began in the 1950’s and it wasn’t until the 1960’s when The Beatles heightened the start of the British Invasion. The band consisted of eclectic individuals such as John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The Beatles’ group dynamic was founded on team-based operations as well as two-way innovations such as problem-to-solution and solution-to-problem of team building. However, like every group, internal and external interaction arose creating competition, which lead to both positive and negative conflict.
"Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try," sang the popular Beatle (John Lennon, Imagine). The first line of one of the most thought provoking and emotion-filled songs causes the listener to think. John Lennon was and still today in memory a leader in efforts to reach world peace. His music still continues to evoke emotion from people all over in songs asking for peace such as "Give Peace a Chance," "Revolution," and most famously "Imagine." His simple style and straightforward approach leave nothing to consideration or deliberation, the songs lead straight to the point. The song "Imagine" is one of the best examples of this, establishing his point and creating a sense of trust within his music and himself.
Taking a look back into our history, it is very hard to graze over the fact that music has reigned as one of the most influential components of artistic expression in our time. It has been a part of numerous peoples' lives across the globe since the beginning of time. Music has been able to not only define the people that craft it, but encompass and define a whole time period and culture in its own, leaving a very bold mark upon history. Two pieces of music that have played integral roles during their time are “In Paradisum” (by an anonymous individual) during the middle ages (600-1450), and “Same Love,” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, featuring Mary Lambert during the 21st century (2001-2100, specifically released in 2012). These musical pieces, although from two very different spectrums in history, share a few notable similarities, as well as some remarkable differences that embody the ever so changing sound of art in time.
During their time together, the members of The Beatles experimented with several different drugs. Drugs played a major role in the career of the Beatles as they influenced many of the songs as well as played a significant role on the bonding the band shared. Each band member had his own preference of drugs. However, the most significant impact drugs had on the Beatles were due from Preludin, cannabis, and LSD for reasons that were quite different.
When people think about the 60’s the majority of them all think about the Beatles. The Beatles is a band that made Rock and Roll a totally, different type of music. Even though The Beatles were such a hit, as time went on they started to fall apart. Over 50 years later, the Beatles are still classified as one of the best band of all time.
A piece of music is considered pastiche when it imitates another era, genre, artist, or work. Many postmodern works share the characteristic of pastiche. In the song “I Feel Like I’m Fixin’ to Die Rag” by McDonald, pastiche is show through the music itself. It is a mashup of three different styles: folk music, ragtime, and marching music. As Joe begins to sing “Well come on all of you big strong men, Uncle Sam needs your help again” (McDonald, verse 1 line 1) the association with folk and ragtime music is very apparent as it contrasts with the heavy lyrics.
The Beatles wrote hundreds of songs throughout their long career and many of which had the same main ideas in them. Those two ideas seem to standout in most of their songs, and they are the ideas of peace and love. They were so passionate about these two ideas especially world peace, that they became avid participants and leaders in the anti-war movement, against the War in Vietnam. It seemed strange ...
My artist from the 1960’s was Bobby Darin, his Simple Song of Freedom lyrics can relate to the 1980’s Public Enemy Fight the Power song. They both send the message to others about Civil Rights and the importance of equality among all regardless of race, gender etc. The 1960’s generation was fighting the Vietnam War which most of the United States popular was against. The 1980’s generation was also fighting a war but it was geared toward corrupt Government Officials but most importantly being able to speak up for what you believe
The Beatles are an English rock band who originated in Liverpool, England in 1960. They were a huge success locally even before they began to make records in the United Kingdom. The band was comprised of four members: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. They owe much of their early, quick success to manager Brian Epstein who molded them into a professional act, and producer George Martin who enhanced their musical potential. Early in the 1960’s, their widespread fame in the United Kingdom was first referred to as “Beatlemania”. Eventually, they acquired the nickname “the Fab Four” as Beatlemania grew rapidly in Britain. By 1964, the Fab Four made their way overseas and officially became international pop stars. The Beatles were the leading factor in the “British Invasion” of the United States pop market.
Despite the fact that Lennon has been dead for over 30 years, Lennon's music, and the music he made with the Beatles, continues to inspire gener...
