If you want to earn big money in a professional sport basketball is a good sport for that. The National Basketball Association or NBA is a big sport that has made many people famous in our country and many others. It has grown to be a very big sport that draws attention from all around the world. Players work their whole life to be able to get to the point where they can play in the NBA. People come from all over the world to be able to watch a NBA game. A big issue in the league is money and how much people get paid compared to others. This is because each team wants to be the best, but to be the best you have to be able to get the best players. To get the top notch players you have to pay them more and more money each year. The highest payed player in the NBA right now is Lebron James with his salary this season is just under 31 million dollars. …show more content…
There is also a minimum salary that each team must pay their players. If this year was your first in the league and you were paid the minimum salary you would get paid a little over 543 thousand. When compared to the most it may not seem like very much but it goes up quickly. If this was your third year in the NBA and you were paid minimum salary you would have made just over 1 million dollars. This has become a big issue for people all around the nation some people think that the NBA is just for the money and they are not even playing basketball anymore. The players need to be more worried about playing the game they love and not the
This sadly is a true fact. The lowest paid NBA players gets paid the same amount as the highest paid NBA player. The maximum pay for a NBA player is $113.29 million, the minimum for a NBA player is 562,493.The maximum pay for a WNBA player is 107,000 thousand, the minimum pay for a WNBA player is
Ever watched ESPN and seen a report about a baseball player signing a five year contract worth 150 million dollars? Now, with a little math, one would come to realize that that contract means that baseball player will make a bit less than 30 million dollars in that five year period. That is ridiculous. Why do professional baseball players as well as professional athletes in general make so much money just to play a game that little kids play to stay out of trouble? It is because people pay them to play, athletes unions that, for a large part, are used to force team owners to pay them such a high salary, and businesses pay them to advertise their products.
You see sports everywhere, on your TV and even your local park. The value of sports in the average American is astronomical, sports is a major priority in people’s life. Sports teaches young kids how to be successful (and not successful) at life. There is so much that goes into sports that people who never have played will never understand. With each sport there is specific skill that one must master to be good, and with that takes hours and hours of hard work. You can talk about a certain individual’s skill and capabilities that make him great, but the real value of sports lies within a person. Sports creates determination and a competiveness that can be used in other areas of life, not just sports. There are millions of kids who attempt to become professional athletes but as the level of competition increases the number of athletes decreases, very few of them ever becoming a professional athlete but they are able to take what they have learned from sports into different professions in life. When a kid spends hours in the backyard perfecting his swing it can translate to the kid spending hours of hard work in his job. Companies and business like to hire ex-athletes because they already know what kind of person they are, hardworking and
The NBA can afford to risk alienating a few kids or slow sales of throwback jerseys, because portraying their players as professionals earns $350,000 more corporate dollars from another sold commercial spot. And this is the money that they want (Not Exactly Rocket Science). In conclusion, the players of the NBA have the abilities of a professional, are paid like professionals, and are powerful role models among the youth of society.
As a fan of basketball, the NBA has always been the center of every discussion I partake in whenever basketball is involved. Since its inception in the late 70s and the popularity of the American National Basketball Association, basketball has been cemented as one of the most iconic games played today. Whether a fan or enthusiast watches the game live or on replay, the high-voltage intensity and addicting thrill of every turnover and every score made just makes the person go wild. Of course, in every game, some people often wonder how much money the players have each season. I am one of those people who often think about how wealthy these players are and the more
Players get paid too much. Rodriguez's made a deal for 275,000,000 to be on the new York Yankees team. The highest team player made 13 million in 2011. Low set paid bears player made 330,000 in 2011. Yes players do get payed too much.
One of the biggest misconceptions in all of sports is that the vast majority of NBA centers are overpaid. Admittedly as a group, we felt the same way that once we completed our data, we would come to the conclusion that NBA centers are overpaid. As it turns out we were in the wrong in assuming that the majority of centers were overpaid. According to David J. Berri a win is worth approximately $1.913 million To an NBA franchise. The formula we used to evaluate the worth of the player was: points+rebounds+steals+½ blocked shots+½ assists--Field Goal attempts-½ free throw attempts-turnovers- personal fouls.
There is quite a few for being a professional athlete. First the benefit of having a high salary of working your way up to a higher salary. So, what this means is that your original pay will probably already be higher than most peoples in this field and then on top of that you have the opportunity to make even more than you start out with. Next, you'll have access to the best medical that there is now a-days. Either your team could have their very own athletic trainer/injury crew, or you'll already be able to afford top-notch care because of the money you're making. Also, if you're in public and having a good time you can be crazy as you want to be. So, of course they're things that you are not allowed to do on public television however, if you were to do something bad and be fined chances are you will already have enough money to pay for the cost(s) and then be able to move on in life. Then you'll have other money-making opportunities that arise before you such as being able to get sponsored by big sports brands such as Nike, Adidas, or even Under Armour. Many other things may come out of this for example you might eventually be able to have your own name clothing run through one of those sponsorships or maybe even having your own shoe made and sold by that company. If you were to get your own shoe and sign a contract about who gets how much

There are several reasons for this, first off they play more games than other athletes. In the NBA the salary is sixty three point sixty five million, the NFL is one hundred and thirty three million, and the NHL is seventy one point four million. “In the NBA there are severe restrictions on adding new players when your team's collective salary is at $58m, and shortly thereafter results in a dollar for dollar tax. In football, the number is $120m, but the restrictions are far more severe, making it basically impossible to add players after that point.
Basketball has been around for 118 years. It has evolved so much. I bet Naismith never thought that something so simple would change the world. Basketball has even changed lives, by reaching out to other countries, and all kinds of charities. For some people basketball is life, and it has even saved lives. A lot of players in the NBA have come from nothing, but since they excelled in basketball all their biggest dreams have come true. Basketball can even help you escape from all your troubles and worries. You can ask any player what it is like to step on a basketball court and I bet they will tell you it’s the best feeling in the world. Basketball really is more than a game, it’s a way of life.
In recent years, the NBA and “trouble” seem to have become synonymous. In the past year alone, some of the biggest names in basketball have had run-ins with the law. To try to avoid this trouble the National Basketball Association started the NBA rookie transition program ("The problem," 2012). This training program serves to provide knowledge of what players can expect while playing in the NBA and how to balance the pressures and demands that come with their chosen career ("The problem," 2012). The program is cited as only having “modest success” and Harry Edwards, a noted sports psychologist and advisor in Oakland, California said, “I think they ought to send players to those courses every year, every season. It should be like renewing your driver’s license and driving test” ("The problem," 2012). No one disagrees that many professional athletes have problems that are not being resolved, and that reflect negatively on the whole league. NBA players are referred to as “high maintenance” by sports agents and the media. “Basketball players start getting pampered very young” says sports agent, Peter Schaffer. “Twelve and 13-year-olds are being brought to training camps, they get free shoes, they’re deemed to be special at an early age” ("The problem," 2012). The $475,000 rookie minimum is more than 10 times the starting salary for a college graduate and rookies are typically in their early 20’s ("The problem," 2012). Over the last decade, high salaries have had a variety of negative effects on NBA players including, the way the law is viewed, bankruptcy, family values, and production. Sometimes, these things ruin their career, or more accurately the way they earn a living.
The salary of professional athletes are always being debated on whether they make too much or it 's the right amount they should make. Some of the athletes do make millions and millions of dollars, but there is some that don 't. Anyways in order to make the millions first an athletes must make it to the professional level. For example in soccer only 1.4% of people actually make it to the professional level. So the rest of the people make it for other sports such as football, basketball, baseball, and others. To be considered a professional athlete you must be getting payed to play a sport. They will be playing for a league and even tournaments and get rewarded with more money if they win. Some may think an athlete
Money makes the world go 'round." Sports could not exist without the presence of money. You have high paid athletes asking for multi-million dollar contracts, while at the same time you have doctors not even making close to that amount. There are corporations buying out sports teams, buying stadiums, and buying everything that has to do with sports. Someone may ask why they do this.
When addressing the value of entertainment, there is without a doubt, that we as a society value entertainment highly. But there is no reason that these athletes, who are here to merely entertain us, get paid higher wages than those that save our lives and teach us such as medical doctors and teachers. I find it ridiculous that players make millions of dollars a year, and yet demand more. The entertainment that these athletes provide is solely entertainment; it is not essential to the function or productivity of society. If I were to become a professional football player I would not complain about my salary for many reasons. I am playing the sport that I love and getting paid for it. The minimum wage for football is well over $100,000 a year, as is for many professional sports. These reasons by their lonesome are enough to warrant that the salary professional athletes are paid is suffice.
