I Want To Become An Outstanding Physician

I feel that my life experiences are what makes me exceptional, and will allow me to become an outstanding physician. While in 2nd grade, I traveled to Russia with my parents to adopt my sister. We lived there for two months, allowing my parents and I to spend countless hours at the orphanage. I noticed that the happiest moment of these kids’ day was receiving a piece of fruit, and how their wrists were strapped to their beds at night. The experience has shaped me into a person of greater compassion and appreciation, and has made me view the world in a unique, more mature perspective. At the end of high school, financial hardships at home forced me to take a serious look at how my undergraduate career was going to be paid for. I decided to accept a full scholarship to the College of DuPage where I worked hard, received strong grades, and earned a scholarship to Loyola University Chicago. Without first attending community college and facing this challenge, I would not be in this position today. It taught me the importance of using my time and resources to help others, even if it means something small like sitting by their bedside holding their hand or offering words of encouragement. Further, my experiences working with underserved and diverse populations will allow me to understand patients with different cultures in the future. I interacted with patients, visitors, and other volunteers from a variety of cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds while volunteering at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Friedman Place. Overall, these experiences have shown me that everyone is human, has the same needs, and all deserve the best possible care.
