Extended Writing Project- Nathan Mattera In the story’s “The Father of Chinese Aviation”, By Rebecca Maksel,” I Never Had It Made” by Jackie Robinson, and “Warriors Don’t Cry” By Melba Beals. All of these people had life changing experiences and in doing so changed their countries. Feng Ru immigrates to the US. He then starts his own airplane factory and he succeeds. Jackie Robinson’s autobiography talks about him being the first black person to play Major League Baseball. Melba Patillo Beals in “Warriors Don’t Cry” integrates Central High School. Her and eight others integrate a white high school. All of these people went through challenges like racism. However all succeed and had all had a huge impact on their countries. Jackie Robinson was the first black player to play in the major leagues. Other players, when he was asked to sign with the Dodgers, didn’t accept him. Robinson said “some of my own teammates refused to accept me because I was black.” He had physical and verbal threats against him. Melba faced the danger of getting killed or even getting beat up. These events caused her to grow mentally because she focused on positive not negative things. I know another challenge was socializing with white people. As Melba said “Some of the white people looked totally horrified, while others raised their fists to us. Others shouted ugly words.” This shows that she focused on learning and positive things not the threats that was against her. An example is when she integrated the school she was getting threats thrown at her. Melba says “ We stepped up the front door of Central high school and crossed the threshold into that place where angry segregationist mobs had forbidden us to go.” This shows Melba led the way for people who are afraid to stand up to racism. Today in every public school there are black kids who she led the way
