People tell me that they can see it all the time in every performance. They explain to me how clear it is for them to see how much I love dance. Each number is around two minutes, nevertheless so much love and effort can shine through in that short amount of time. I began dancing at the age of six when my mother enrolled me in a ballet and gymnastics class in Louisville. Most kids are outgoing and sociable, although I have never been that kid until I joined a dance team. Having the courage to be confident and to communicate with others is vital. This small “slice of life” benefited me in staying active, making new friends, and bettering my personality. Most teenagers in this high school are dedicated members in multiple sports. Years ago, I used to be involved in volleyball and basketball. I even had a dream of being a cheerleader and cheering with my friends. I soon learned that no matter what type of sport or physical activity you are a part of, it can benefit your body. Staying healthy and active while you’re young can result in a happier you years later. Dance is a demanding yet blissful activity that not everyone can do. I was always a better listener hearing other people’s conversations instead of joining them. When I joined a different dance studio a few years back, I was new to Scottsburg and terrified to make new friends. Something you find out very quickly is that dance kids are incredibly accepting. It didn’t take long for me to become close with many of them, even if they were younger than me. I even became best friends with my dance instructor, Oletha Reel. She and many of the other dancers inspired me to become a better performer and person in general.
