I used the recommended learner type quiz from Educationplanner.org to find that I am 55% a tactile learner, 25% auditory, and 20% visual (PHEAA, 2016). It is best if I take short brakes from time to time as I study. Fidgeting is normal and it’s also a tool used to keep focus by keeping my other senses from wandering off. I have tried other online quizzes like this so I was aware that I am a tactile learner and I have formed habits that helps with school.
Nursing education has affected my education by teaching me how to think critically, I learned how to question normal routine, others, and myself. I was taught how to accept that I don’t know everything and gained the ability to search for answers. The text refers to socialization as how one

I don’t think I would be where I am today without them. After a year in Med-surg I realize how important those supports are. “The Relationship between new and experienced nurses take many forms and vary from friend and informal advisor to that of a formal contractual mentor.” (Masters, pg. 181) One of my mentors/ friend also helped reassure me when a coworker was bullying me and made me feel incompetent as a nurse. After the encounter I asked my friend how she thinks I am doing. She reassured me that I was finding my own way in the hospital and that the “bully” was always tough on people and to just ignore it. I didn’t ignore it, and she kept bothering me and management stepped …show more content…
“Networking is the process by which you get to know people within your organization and within your profession.” (Masters, pg. 179) Networking is the main reason I have my current job. I went to a college career fair and met a HR recruiter, months later after my NCLEX I called her and reintroduced myself. Turns out the recruiter remembered me and asked me for an interview right away. People get hired every day for jobs they are not qualified for by just knowing the right person. So if I can meet the right people and show them my best, I will have the best chances to boost my career for the
I presume the role transition from academic nursing student to Graduate Nurse will be challenging and rewarding. In their findings, the researchers Doody, Tuohy & Deasy (2012) stated that for a successful transition NGNs need to be competent in a range of domains: interpersonal skills, managing workloads, providing health information, communication, and prioritising care delivery. Although I believe I am competent in the above specified areas, I am still not confident that I would get sufficient support in the hospital environment in terms of knowledge sharing, moral support and being given constructive feedback. Constructive criticism increases confidence in the work role and reduces stress in an individual (Doody, Tuohy & Deasy, 2012). In my previous professional placements I have been able to demonstrate my competency to work in the healthcare environment. I have received positive feedback from placement educators, buddy nurses and patients. Despite being competent in a range of the above areas NGNs may still face transition shock.
In-class discussions focused in on these various images of nursing and their damaging consequences. I have observed that I am not as assertive as I should be to dispute these negative images of nursing. I need to recognize when individuals make comments insinuating a negative portrayal of nurses. I will then proceed to educate these individuals on their uninformed views by demonstrating an understanding of my role as a nurse. This step will require knowledge and confidence; which I hope to acquire by the following strategies outlined in my knowledge confidence
Twibell and Pierre explain why mentoring residency programs play a huge role in employee retention rates. Mentors rather than preceptors are investing in new grad nurses for longer than just a few months. NGNs are receiving constructive criticism from their mentors and serve as mediators between workplace issues. High levels of anxiety are reported in the first few weeks of employment, but with mentors there to have a caring attitude, the levels of anxiety can be greatly decreased and learning can be much easier facilitated (2012).
Sharp (1994) was one of the first to critic the idea of the inclusion of sociology within nursing practice, arguing that nursing as a whole is a “action-orientated profession”, therefore nurses should only be concerned with the knowledge of how to perform tasks, rather than acquiring the theoretical knowledge of sociology. However, Porter (1995) was in favour of this inclusion, arguing that health not determined on the assessment of an individual’s physical state, but can in fact be determined by factors such as social and cultural, factors in which nurses should both be educated in and understand. Porter goes on to explain that in turn, this would allow nurses to care for patients in a holistic and individualised
Another person who has influenced me to become a nurse is my best friend’s mom who is the Senior VP of Nursing at Clara
...eptors were amazing and have left an impression and is one of the reasons I am the nurse am and I hope to precept my students the same way being supportive and guiding them down the best road. One day when one of my preceptee look back at their professional career I hope they can see how important it was for them to have a mentor especially in nursing school and as a new graduate nurse.
Nursing takes on a different form of learning that reflects several different aspects and abilities that encompass a wide range of skills and forms the ways of knowing in nursing. The article, “The Fundamental Patterns of Knowing in Nursing,” incorporates multiple theories associated with the learning patterns in nursing. It is a review of literature that helps identify and understand the knowledge practiced by nurses and to better understand the nursing profession. The purpose of the paper was to evaluate the expectations of learning within the nursing realm based on the four areas of nursing that include, empirics, esthetics, personal knowledge and ethics.
Nursing is a medical profession that involves the care and management of patients majorly in the hospital setting. This paper seeks to illustrate the fact that nursing is both a science and an art. Nursing is a science because it involves evidence based practice, education of the public, lifelong learning for the nurse and administrative roles that are allocated to the nurses. Nursing is also an art because nurses depend on intuition, have the capacity to promote positive change, are understanding and culturally sensitive.
Nursing is constantly evolving and changing, in order to be more efficient in providing care than in the past. The nursing profession includes professionals who are not only caregivers but support systems as well as educators. All these factors help to provide optimal care for patients and to also better serve their families and the community. All nurses are encouraged to break down the simplistic notion society has about the nursing profession because nursing is a multi-faceted profession encompassing many different factors that are beneficial to overall human development and health.
Nurses would learn about subculture’s unspoken rules and standards by receiving strong disapproval. Other members of the hospitals attempt to place new nurses into a category of behavior and if the new nurses try to expand beyond that, they will be ridiculed and harshly judged by fellow nurses and superiors (Kim, 2016). They will also learn through observation within the setting. The new nurses would view the nurses with poor behavior berated by superior nurses or employees. Then, they would learn the correct behavior from watching the behavior of nurses that would not receive a verbal onslaught (Kim, 2016).
The ongoing education and training which supports the nursing as a profession must be maintained. The self-concept of nurses is enormously important in maintaining a professional identity.
Nursing highly relates to the person because without that interpersonal relationship, the nurse is not able to determine whether the caring being provided is sufficient. It is important to have that relationship so that the person trust you as the caregiver and the care that you are providing. Nursing is a strenuous role that requires a dedicated individual who is able to think critically when placed on under pressure.
My results are the following from the LCI; technical 35, precise 32 confluence 25, and sequence 22. With my results it shows I am a strong willed learner. I use all of the tools as if I am a dynamic learner throughout my life and with learning. In most cases I sway back and forth depending on the situation. When I implement my technical side its not to just me being stubborn I would say its due to my current situation, and the peers around me at that particular point in time.
It is said your network is your net worth. From this saying it goes without saying that any job seeker who is looking for a job fast should build a network of reliable friends and professionals. This approach of building a network also applies to those with jobs. The larger a reliable network is, the better the chances of benefiting from the network. The next time you attend a professional meeting, try to create professional friends.
More specifically, I wanted to increase my understanding concerning the role knowledge and experience have on nursing and the way in which nursing affects the community around it. For example, a day as a nurse is ever changing, from the patient supply to the randomness of patient situations and the choice of choosing how to approach those unfamiliar predicaments. Nursing would challenge me to think on my feet in a moment’s notice and thrive in diverse or educational opportunities, always adapting to new environments. Furthermore, nursing is one of those jobs appreciated by those too weak, defenseless, or sick to help themselves, where personable treatment and human interaction is needed. It takes one thing to be knowledgeable and experienced, but another thing entirely to apply emotions and feelings to treatment, such as intimate contact with others, or attentiveness and sensitivity to their needs. I want to be able to channel both my knowledge and experience on a daily basis and apply it to my career of not only helping others, but also advancing the community in which patients experience medical
