Before she was Joan of Arc, she was Jeanne d´Arc and was born to a peasant family in the small village of Domremy, France in the year 1412. Her strong faith allowed her to accomplish much in her lifetime, and this was provided by her mother Isabelle Romée, and her father Jacques d'Arc. Joan of Arc battled in the Hundred Years War, which was a series of battles to gain control of the Kingdom of France. Although, named the Hundred Years War it actually lasted from 1337 to 1453. Throughout her life she was accused with witchcraft, heresy, and dressing like a man. Her perseverance, efforts in the Hundred Years War, and ability to overcome many false accusations led to her fame and earned her the title “The Maid of Orleans”. Soon after Joan’s victory, she wanted Charles to hurry up and get the crowns of Reims and take over Paris. Charles disagreed, and the Burgundians took over Paris. Not phased and still showing her heroic gestures, she went to confront the Burgundians, where she was thrown off of her horse and captured by the Burgundians. The Burgundians then sold her like a slave to the enemy, the English. After taking her, the English turned her over to the churches where she was put on trial. The church charged her with 70 counts, along with heresy and witchcraft. Before being executed she was put in a prison where she was left for several days. This is why she was burned and not normally executed instead. They believe she was a witch because of her divine power that was unexplainable to man. It was said that 10,000 people went to her execution of getting burned. Some say that her heart remained true and was not burned or affected by the fire at all. This happened about a week after the trial. Many people disagreed with the trial and execution, but not enough so the hero was burned to ashes and scattered in the seine. She was burned in Stake at Rouen, England. It was only after 26 years had she been officially named innocent after the English were driven out. She became known as a saint in 1920 by the Roman Catholic Church. Joan lived a very short, but heroic life, with many ups and downs.
