Have you ever wondered why humanistic thinking was important step in human history? Well, I’m gonna show you how it was. The development of humanistic thinking was an important step in human history because humanistic thinking helped humans “wake up” from just taking what they were told to believe and come up with their own ideas. During the start of the Renaissance, many people only followed and devoted their lives to the church and its ideology. The main reason why was that most people at the time were very illiterate and would believe everything the church said. He did this because he didn’t like way the church taught christians that you could buy your forgiveness to enter heaven even when Jesus himself said in the bible “again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." Due to this, Martin Luther started the protestant reformation in the goodness of the christian who were mostly illiterate and listened to what the preachers would say. Humanism was an instigating factor of the protestant reformation because Martin Luther felt christians were being deceived and lied too about being able to buy forgiveness. Martin Luther writes “most people are necessarily deceived by that indiscriminate and high-sounding promise of release from penalty.” Martin Luther also writes “Christians are to be taught that he who gives to the poor or lends to the needy does a better deed than he who buys indulgences.” This shows Humanism was an instigating factor since Martin Luther starts the reformation in order to educate humans about the lies they are being told in church and also to show humans that giving to the poor is better than hoarding money.
