Have you ever wondered why humanistic thinking was important step in human history? Well, I’m gonna show you how it was. The development of humanistic thinking was an important step in human history because humanistic thinking helped humans “wake up” from just taking what they were told to believe and come up with their own ideas. During the start of the Renaissance, many people only followed and devoted their lives to the church and its ideology. The main reason why was that most people at the time were very illiterate and would believe everything the church said. For example, Eastern Orthodox churches used to teach that instruments were satanic and owning one was a crime against the people. This strict ruling eventually lead to some people …show more content…
Michelangelo’s creation of Adam. Why is this artwork important? You might ask, well, this was the first artwork of Adam and God as humans. This was important because “this story is never illustrated literally in Renaissance art.” so, this was important to humanism because it was one of the first creations that emphasized the values of human beings. It was also important because “Michelangelo's completely new image seems to symbolize a still further idea - the instillation of divine power in humanity.” This was also important because the artwork gives importance to humans and their …show more content…
He did this because he didn’t like way the church taught christians that you could buy your forgiveness to enter heaven even when Jesus himself said in the bible “again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." Due to this, Martin Luther started the protestant reformation in the goodness of the christian who were mostly illiterate and listened to what the preachers would say. Humanism was an instigating factor of the protestant reformation because Martin Luther felt christians were being deceived and lied too about being able to buy forgiveness. Martin Luther writes “most people are necessarily deceived by that indiscriminate and high-sounding promise of release from penalty.” Martin Luther also writes “Christians are to be taught that he who gives to the poor or lends to the needy does a better deed than he who buys indulgences.” This shows Humanism was an instigating factor since Martin Luther starts the reformation in order to educate humans about the lies they are being told in church and also to show humans that giving to the poor is better than hoarding money. He shows humanism through his writing since humanism itself is “an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters.” While the

In Conclusion, this piece embodies humanism because the subject of the fresco is a gathering of humanist thinkers, there are many classical elements in the piece, and it uses techniques such as scientific and illusionistic rendering. The use of classical figures, as well as disguising artists of the time to celebrate their status as members of an educated society, definitely makes this a humanistic piece. It is one of the most famous pieces of the High Renaissance, and is considered to be Raphael’s masterpiece.

People started to see the logic in his words and they started to break away from the Catholic church and in the process starting the protestant reformation. In his theses Luther believed that Faith not good deeds could save a person. People were convinced when they were told that if they pay so much money that their loved ones would be able to get out of purgatory and make it to heaven. Indulgences such as this was one of the major things that made Martin Luther so angry and adamant of writing his 95 theses because he wanted to see a change in the Catholic
Michelangelo was born in a time in which the church had a great influence on most things that people did in their everyday life. He grew up in a wealthy family and was exposed to people of high position. The paintings and sculptures that Michelangelo created were strongly related to the Bible, and showed his respect and knowledge of the religion and culture he was brought up in. Starting with the Sistine Chapel ceiling, it has paintings that start with the creation of the world all the way to the flood and drunkenness of Noah. Michelangelo took four years to paint the ceiling and broke down different aspects of the earlier parts of the Bible throughout the ceiling. The most prominent paintings that are on the ceiling would have to be where God’s hand reaches out to Adam’s hand. This shows that Michelangelo views man and God as having a relationship where they know each other. Man can reach out to God, while God reaches down to man. With that being said, I believe this shows that the way in which man encounters God in this painting was a form of the ontological type. In ...

Martin Luther a German theologian and religious reformer was the founding figure of the protestant reformation, the break from the Catholic Church, which in many ways marks the beginning of modern Europe. A well-expressed preacher and huge writer, Luther attacked many abuses of the Catholic Church, especially the papacy. The source of his spiritual revelation was not political or institutional but came from his inner fight of conscience. Like other people of his day, Luther was horrified that god would in the end reject him for his sins. He found a word in the bible called “Law” which increased his terror, but he also discovered a word god called “Gospel,” the good news and promise of mercy in Christ, which shed all of his worries. By his words and actions, Luther caused an action that reformulated certain rudimentary Christian belief and the division of Western Church between Roman Catholics and the Protestant traditions. He is one of the most influential person in the history of Christianity.
This art was part of a larger movement of Renaissance artists that were inspired by science, and often included in artistic renderings like paintings and sculptures. In a literal sense, the creation of man was a biblical story used to explain man’s existence; on a figurative level, it represented the Resurrection and the gift of the Holy Spirit. As man alone was made in the image of God, it is further interpreted that the Michelangelo’s image of Man was made from his own anatomical discoveries. Herbert von Einem argues that Michelangelo “restricted himself to essentials and rejected almost entirely the non-human aspects of his subject. His sole concern was with the act of creation” (Doston, 233-235).
