Art is the application of creativity and imagination usually expressed through a visual form such as paintings and sculptures, that produce works admired for their beauty and delicacy. The word Renaissance means "rebirth". It took place between 1300-1600 A.D, following the Middle Ages (Britannica, 2018). The Renaissance was the reawakening of art, science, and culture. It was the golden age of arts. Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were two extraordinary artists who contributed beautiful masterpieces to the Renaissance period.

This advancement had an impact on renowned paintings such as Mona Lisa, St. John the Baptist. These portraits show detail and expression. The physical relationship between the human and the object, and the expressions included on people's faces are all incorporated in the betterment of art in the Renaissance. To have a better intuition on the human body, da Vinci dissected human corpses. By dissecting corpses, a new interest in the study of the human body commenced. This research allowed the creation of the Vitruvian Man. This drawing, made in 1487, was accompanied by notes on the man who inspired it, Vitruvius Pollio (Isaacson, 2017). In 1507, Leonardo da Vinci was appointed court painter for the King of France, Louis XII. Years later, da Vinci was appointed court painter to Louis's successor, Francis I. Da Vinci was aging, and Francis expected little artistic ability due to his old age. Sadly, Leonardo da Vinci passed away in Amboise, France, on May 2, 1519.
