Marshall Fiorita Professor Jaffe UNIV-150B 5 March 2024 Understanding the Human Trafficking Lecture: The Use of Pathos For starters, this lecture was extremely informative on the dangers and reality of human trafficking. A round of applause is very much needed for Elizabeth Quiroz and Megan Berger, as we thank them for taking the time to open up to us and share their stories. One of the reasons these two gave such strong speeches was due to their use of pathos and emotional appeals. While the other two were still present throughout their lecture, the use of pathos is used as the backbone of the argument. This presentation is an excellent example of how to use pathos to create an argument. It's important to first find an understanding of their …show more content…
These two are likely to be a lecture to help those who can't help themselves. Their argument is simple, to show us that sexual trafficking victims have both a path to redemption and success. Megan was our first speaker and used pathos through her use of a personal anecdote. She detailed what it was like being trafficked at an early age and how that spiraled her into spending more time as a human trafficking victim, almost providing her comfort in the abuse. Megan quickly gained the sympathy and respect of the room. Her story is one filled with pain and by using descriptive language, everyone in the room had their attention on her. She effectively won over the room, if not by pity, then by respect. Not only did this attention help her spread her message, but it also gave the audience the best example they could receive. Megan confidently standing tall and speaking out against her traffickers gave her power, and demonstrated to us that there is a path to redemption and success for these survivors. Elizabeth gave a very similar speech to Megan, at least in
As victim count continues to rise, its difficult to see how such great numbers of men, women and children are bought and sold every year. Trafficking can be found in many forms, including: prostitution, slavery, or forced labor (Harf and Lombardi, 2014). It wasn’t until the 1980’s that international human trafficking became globally noticed. With the lack of government intervention and control in several nations, and the free trade market, slavery once again became a profitable industry (Harf and Lombardi, 2014). As previously mentioned, easier movement across nations borders is one of the outcomes of globalization. It is also what makes human trafficking so easy today. It is estimated that about 20.9 million people are victims across the entire globe (United Nations Publications, 2012); trafficking accounts for 32 billion dollars in generated profit globally (Brewer, n.d). 58 percent of all human trafficking was for the purpose of sexual exploitation, and of this 55-60 percent are women (United Nations Publications,
Human trafficking is the act of coercing someone into working against his or her will. Anyone can be a victim, especially young girls who are vulnerable to the captor’s lies. Victims have been found anywhere from driving ice cream trucks to touring boys’ choir. In her talk, Noy Thrupkaew shares several examples about how people are deceived and coerced into coming to the United States and being forced to work for someone else. She focuses on how close to home human trafficking really is and how the victims don’t necessarily need saving but solidarity. In Noy Thrupkaew’s speech about human trafficking, she not only shares her own story but also the different situations regarding how the crime functions. Because the speaker
The current issue I have chosen to discuss is human/sex trafficking. Human trafficking is sociological in nature because it has to do with a spreading issue human society. The amount of human trafficking has been continuing to increase. Human trafficking is basically a modern form of slavery. Human trafficking includes forced labor, forced marriage, sexual exploitation, and sexual slavery.
The documentary “Tricked” was very difficult to watch but it was obligatory that we do because we need to see the reality of human trafficking. It really exposed what the victims of human trafficking go through everyday. The fact that they also interviewed different pimps and showed us how they operate is very important since it gave us a deeper understanding on how they choose their victims and get them to stay. In this paper, not only will I talk about what I learned about human trafficking throughout the semester in, and from reading The Slave Across the Street, The Slave Next door, Half the Sky and listening to Heidi’s presentation; I will also talk about what I believe is the best way to fight human trafficking and why. I will focus
In the article “Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking in the United States,” Kimberly Kotrla discussed the disheartening facts of what’s going on in the United States under our noses. Today more and more people are finding out about this sad industry. In Alaska my brother goes out in the streets to help save these girls in sex trafficking. Knowing my brother is doing something to end this made me feel proud while reading this informative essay.
The trafficking of humans will never be considered okay, but it’s continuing to happen everyday. Biswas and Weissmueller both argue on the subject of human trafficking. In the article “Human Trafficking Scenario in Bangladesh: Some Concerns,” Biswas argues that human trafficking is a big issue and what we are doing is not enough. She believes that strengthening the borders will help put an end to human trafficking. On the other hand, in the article “The Wrong Cure for Sex Trafficking,” Weissmueller argues that human trafficking is happening and prostitution should be made legal. Legalizing prostitution would decrease the need for human trafficking. When comparing the two articles Biswas uses a better logos and pathos argument. But Weissmuller
“People were created to be loved. Things were created to be used. The reason why the world is in chaos is because things are being loved and people are being used” (“27 Human Trafficking” 1). Occurring in every part of the world, human trafficking is a widespread, large problem. Many women and children are affected by human trafficking, causing their lives to be completely transformed. Once some women’s lives are changed, they will never return to normal again. Human sex trafficking is a growing problem that affects women emotionally, physically, and psychologically.
Human Trafficking Nearly 100,000 children in the United States are currently exploited through commercial sex trade. Over 27 million people worldwide are trapped in human trafficking. Human trafficking is a problem that is still prevalent today. Many people are negligent to the fact that millions of people are currently living enslaved to the sex industry. Ending any form of human slavery will never happen, but becoming aware of the problem and creating ways to stop the numbers from rising or even getting the numbers to decrease is important.

Nikunj Agarwal GE-1401 T63 SID: 53662722 Assignment 3 – Argumentative Essay. Human Trafficking, The age old problem. In today’s era of technological advancement and scientific discovery, man’s greed for power and fame has grown exponentially. We live in a world where we have accepted man’s absolute control over each and everything. The unjustified trade and enslavement of human beings in the current age represents a fallen civilisation.
Forrest Bounds Mrs. Karhliker World Literature 13 March 2014 Title Lies, deceit, and abductions: Human trafficking victims face either some or both of these methods to steal these men and women away from the lives they have built. Human trafficking is a plague afflicting most modern societies; men, women and children are trafficked for sexual slavery and cheap labor against their wills. Often times children are taken or lured from their homes and men blackmailed into slave labor for little or nothing. Women and children are trafficked for sexual uses, mainly prostitution.
Several crimes in the United States slip into the dark; never noticed and go without justification and punishment annually. One of these unknown crimes is called human trafficking. Human trafficking is the illegal movement of people against their will and rights. Human trafficking is a serious crime that many people are unaware of; it secretly takes place in the United States; it secretly ruins many lives; it secretly goes by to be never discovered or punished by government officials.
One cause of human trafficking is vulnerability of grieved criminals.(cite). Most grieving criminals are vulnerable, because of their living conditions. When they see how easy it is to be a trafficker makes this issue much more horrifying for women and young girls to be manipulated...
Joining the gym made me recognize the different types of weight lifters. During my workouts, I observed each person fit into one of three categories. At a health club, one can expect to find the show-offs, fashionistas, and grunters. The first type is characterized by his arrogant attitude and flashy appearance. He always comes to the gym wearing a tank top to display his well-defined muscles.
Human Trafficking is trading human beings for sex, labor, or any other force trade. It is known as modern day slavery. Many people in the United States believe that slavery was abolished long ago, but the truth is slavery exist more now than it ever has before. People are being trafficked all around us. Victims of human trafficking range in age, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. Typically victims share one thing in common, they become isolated from either their country of origin or their families in hope of a better life. Nearly 100,000 children in the United States are currently exploited through commercial sex trade. Over 27 million people worldwide are trapped in human trafficking. Many people are negligent of the fact that millions of people are currently living enslaved in the sex industry. The statistic remains that there is a battle going on worldwide. Ending any form of human slavery will never happen, but becoming aware of the problem and creating ways to stop the numbers from rising or even getting the numbers to decrease should be important. People are not property and no one human being should own another human being. Battles are fought all over the world for people who are oppressed, why is there not a bigger battle for the millions of people being bought and sold right now? It is injustice. Although this global crime is a huge problem that seems way too big to begin solving. There is a way to become aware, speak out, and stop sitting on the sidelines. Even though many people picture slavery as a thing of the past, it never ended. Even though many citizens of the United States see slavery in their mind as something in some far off country and brush the notion aside, t...
