The game of poker is a card based game, which has developed into many various kinds, in terms of the number of cards dealt, how many cards are on the deck visible for all players, and what remains hidden, over the past few decades. Despite its differences, poker of any kind shares one major significance; the factor, that either sets one winning or losing, is based upon decisions made in the long run. The utmost degree of such decisions resemble economic components, since the most elementary acts, such as raising the bets and folding one’s cards, may be regarded as a case of supply and demand. And one of them, which is the topic of this essay, is Nash Equilibrium, commonly used in games with no more than two players involved which is also known as „Heads Up“. Nash Equilibrium sets two players, with the very same count of chips, against one another in a situation where each player can either bet, all of his or her stack only, or fold. After this particular match is finished, the players‘ stacks are equilibrated again and this whole process is being repeated for sake of the long run. This algorithm is also known as „Fictitious Play“ (Dudziak, 2006). Most importantly each of the players ought to take in consideration the opponent’s decision, based on which they reach a convenient consensus, meaning, in order to maintain Nash Equilibrium, they both must correctly presume the upcoming action (Osborne & Rubinstein, 1994). Thus it is foreseeable that one or the other side, oftenly, faces a difficulty while striving for an equilibrium.

March 1931, Nevada's state legislature responded to the increased of people moving out of the state by taking the drastic measure of legalizing gambling. One of the games casinos hoped people would be attracted to was “21”. Casinos hoping to gain the upper hand on other casinos some casinos then enticed is clients with a special bet: A hand featuring either of the black jacks plus the Ace of Spades would pay 10/1 odds on the lucky player's bet. Gambling in the form of traditional games has always been a part of many American Indian tribes’ cultures. Though many tribes began using other forms of gambling, this continues today. However, the use of gaming to obtain profit was not as successful until the late 1970's and early 1980's. It quickly grew from an industry that made $100 million annually to over $22 billion annually. Gambling started with simple games such as bingo and continued to grow until the states the tribes were in eventually took notice. Additionally, because of the rapid growth of the gambling industry some tribes used this to better their ailing economies. As more states started to take notice of the increased amount of income the tribes were bringing in, the states’ governments began questioning whether it was a legitimate operation or not. In response states began lobbying for the Federal Government to regulate Indian gaming. The states wanting to both counter infiltration by organized crime and tax income gained by Indian gaming. Tribes fought the states to maintain tribal sovereignty and to protect gaming revenues for further economic development and support. Congress responded with the set of compromises which then evolved into what is now known as the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988. The Act separated Indian gaming into three separate classes with a different regulatory scheme for each.
The basic system of just about every casino is that of the tables (including Roulette, Blackjack and Craps) filling the center of the room with computerized machines (including slots and video poker) that don’t need much tending to surrounding the area. Also, in many casinos there is a second floor surrounding the perimeter of the building with balconies everywhere so the main floor is still the center of attention. This setup brings the eye of casino patrons, wherever they may be, to the center of the casino. This strategic arrangement plays with the fact of human nature being drawn to the center of the action. Coincidentally, or not, the games in the center of the casinos are always the games where people often spend the most money. By chance if your eye isn’t drawn then perhaps the shrill of people winning will bring your attention. Don’t be fooled though, house advantage is always higher than...
When a count is positive, or high, then the player should bet more, because they have higher odds of getting a good card, and therefore winning. When the count is negative, bet lower. How card-counting works is that players keeps track on what cards are already dealt, and what cards are left. Small valued cards are bad for players as they often either lead to busting or not having a hand high enough to beat the dealer. In the other hand, high valued cards like 10 and aces are good for the players as they have a higher chance of getting a blackjack or starting off with a good initial hand. Because of that, when small cards are dealt, the count rises, and when big cards are dealt, the count decreases. In other words, when bad cards are dealt, players should bet more and vice versa.
Humans have over time developed many different tools to enhance their games and play. Many of these tools take the form of boards, or balls, or cards and in many cases games were created using the culture and topics of the time as a basis for their play. Card games are one type of tool which have long reflected the society and culture of the time in which it was created and played. In very early Chinese culture playing cards were created and developed even further when the Chinese invented their own paper. Many years later, through the travels of merchants, paper playing cards came to the European countries (McDonald, “The Real History of Tarot”). The first mention of playing cards came from Belgium, Germany, and Italy where they were mentioned as they were being banned from use as gambling games. Eventually this ban on card games is relaxed and cards become a more integral and legal form of entertainment (“Early References”).

Online poker had become one of the largest sports in the world. In 2010, the last full year of online poker, there were over 6 million active uses (Fiedler). On April 15, 2011, a day that would be come to be known as “Black Friday”, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) indicted and seized every major online poker website. The DOJ cites in continuing resolution 10.336, that their actions were for the public’s protection and that various laws, like the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA), state how the game is illegal. It can be mathematically proven that online poker is a game of skill and does not apply to the ambiguity of the UIGEA. Online poker is not “gambling” and it should be legalized and regulated for national economic growth.
The dealer starts the game by giving two cards to all of the players, including the dealer. All of the cards are dealt face up except for 1 of the dealer’s card. After seeing the card, players must decide what they want to do. Common decisions are hitting or standing. Hitting is receiving one more card to the hand while standing is not doing anything to the hand. Players can also double down, meaning they double their bet and receive one more card. Splitting is another option, which is to split the 2 same cards to make 2 hands. The dealer will then give one card to each hand, and the player must make their decision again. Lastly, some casinos (most doesn’t) allow players to surrender, which is to fold but lost 50% of the bet.
Together with its turn-based structure, the enhanced time bank enables players to contend in several Duel games at the same time. Games run like direct tournaments, however, the play happens over a set variety of hands per match and a set variety of huge blinds per hand. All hands are dealt out at the same time and players can deciding for each hand all in one
So, I decided to leave you instructions on how to Texas Hold’em Poker, the mostly commonly played poker in casinos. You don’t have to bet money, but using “points” can make the game more interesting since this type of poker can be boring without betting. I will try to summarize the instructions the best I can.
Whether learnt from a Hollywood movie or some crude rendition of “Dogs Playing Poker" everyone has some mental picture of the American card-playing experience: the hazy cloud of cigar smoke hovering just above the table; the half-empty bottle of whiskey lying conspicuously closest to the smallest stack of money; the grizzled middle-aged man struggling to intermix a deck of cards. And yet despite this universal imagery, nothing could be further from the truth. I recently spent a weekend at Canterbury Park in Minnesota, a card-club just south of the Twin Cities. Having arrived there at around three in the morning, I became aware that smoking was not allowed at the tables, that drinks were no longer being served, and that even the once immutable middle-aged man had been replaced by an electronic shuffling machine. Of course I realize the hazards of second-hand smoke; I can even find compromise with temperance; however, to replace the shuffle, the game's manifestation of trust and mistrust, was to me unacceptable. Realizing immediately that poker was forever ruined, I returned to Iowa distraught and inconsolable. Why would a card-room want to use a machine to sort cards in a deck? Could the benefits of such a machine really be worth the costs? Is it possible to find happiness in the sullen world of mechanized random? Presently there are three prevailing technologies for card-shuffling: the cutting-edge computerized shufflers used in casinos, the battery-operated home game models, and the archaic, yet ever popular, human hand.
