Tuesdays with Morrie- Being Number Two In Tuesdays with Morrie, Mitch learns many life lessons from Morrie. One of the greatest things he could have learned- and did learn- was that it is okay to come in second sometimes. This has a great meaning on many levels for a multitude of reasons and can be applied in every-day life. Morrie taught Mitch that it was okay to be number two at times. Morrie did this by telling Mitch a story of his own life. The story was about a time that Morrie had gone to a ball game and experienced people gloating. After one of the teams won, the fans on the winning side started chanting things that made the other team sound terrible. Firstly, it can help someone find peace in not always being the best. There are some things that just can not be won so easily. People do not always understand that it is okay to not win everything that they do in life, but it is an important thing to know. This advice is wonderful, and it was truly helpful, and dare I say calming, to read it and to have it reinforced in my brain. It reminds be of the quote, “just because you lose the battle does not mean that you won’t win the war.” That is one of my favorite quotes because it reminds me that it is okay to be second at some times. Lastly, Morrie’s quote is special to me because it reminds me, like in the ball game scene in the book, that even if I try my hardest and fail at something, I will always know that I did my absolute best. It is not okay to fail if I am not trying, but if I do my best, I will be victorious one way or another. Tuesdays with Morrie is a valuable book to read for life lessons. Some of the lessons are small, some are huge, but one way or another, they will leave a huge impact on people’s lives. The book taught me that it was okay to not always be first.
