Since the age of twelve, I have been participating in scientific Olympiads in Astronomy, Physics, Mathematics, Geography, Brazilian History and one that I love too much is Rockets. While talking about them I cannot forget the medals that I won during high school among them the most memorable ones are the bronze and silver in Astronomy and the silver and two gold in Rockets. In addition, I am a Brazilian champion of PET bottle rocket launching, but the most interesting around this award’s story, was that I received it from the hands of astronaut Marcos Pontes.
First of all, I believe that all my passion and interest about rockets and astronomy began in 2006 when my father took me to see the arrival of astronaut Marcos Pontes in my city.

To solidify my love for science and knowledge; I built and developed some rocket related projects such as the PET bottle rockets, launch sites with water pressure and some with chemical reactions.
Although rockets was one of my interests, I also was one of the administrators in BruHack, the first hackathon in my region, sponsored by MIT and organized by Beyond the Board, I am the co-founder and current administrator. Beyond the Board is a startup, founded by purposing to take students to go literally beyond the board, besides the subjects studied in the classroom, to apply knowledge in amazing projects. We once launched a weather balloon that traveled 34 km in the atmosphere and we took photos from Earth’s curve and picked up some data science!
Because of some recent achievements, I received a surprise visit at my house. I was just giving a simple interview, about the recent achievement in my academic life, to the regional news when a man appeared in front of my door, breaking in the interview; it was nothing less than the astronaut Marcos Pontes! I was speechless and my thrilled face was unforgettable, the author and inspiration of my dreams, the astronaut Marcos Pontes, he jokingly said that the interview accompanied breakfast at my house perfectly. I could not contain the smile and the chilly feeling in my
During the late 1950’s the space race began. This was a race to see who could achieve the most space firsts, between the USA and Russia. Sonny, O’Dell, Sherman, Roy Lee and Quentin live in Coalwood, West Virginia. The space race inspired these boys, who decide to call themselves the Rocket Boys, to make their own rockets. The BCMA (Big Creek Missile Agency) was born when Sonny called a meeting with his friends in his room and discussed how he wanted to build rockets. With the help from the a man at the town’s machine shop, Mr.Bykovski, the BCMA built its first rocket, called Auk I. The rocket was named after an extinct bird that was unable to fly. Auk I was equipped with a wooden bullet shaped nose cone, an aluminum tubing body, fins, and a soldered washer at the bottom. The boys mixed together black powder and postage stamp glue to act as fuel for their rocket. The rocket flew up 6ft, and then fell back down. The rocket boys later found out that the reason their rocket stopped flying was because the solder melted. The BCMA was happy with the result from the rocket, because it was their first ever rocket to fly.
Homer is amazed on how mankind, as a whole, launched an object into space and put it into orbit around Earth. Many people, in the 50’s and still to this day, can’t comprehend how accuracy is important when launching a rocket. According to NASA, rocket launches have to launch in a certain time period or they won’t go into orbit, potentially co...
We all have met Francisco Pizzaro’s or Hernán Cortes’s. We all have bumped into people that with some gesture or with some words of affection transformed our lives. These people are not mentioned in history books, nor have their own special holiday. Hospitals are not named after them and surely some years after their deaths nobody is going to remember their warm touch, their velvet voice nor the sweet things they once did for you; nevertheless, these the ones who make the difference; the kind of people that enter our lives and impact them in such a way we could have never imagined. I have met one. In his idiosyncrasy he captivated and astonished me, changing my life forever.
Before going any further with this paper, I would like to take a moment to thank the crew of the space shuttle challenger for their bravery, courage, determinations and and sacrifice for this great nation. Francis R. Scobee (2), Commander, Michael J. Smith (1), Pilot Judith A. Resnik (2), Mission Specialist 1, Ellison S. Onizuka (2), Mission Specialist 2, Ronald E. McNair (2), Mission Specialist 3, Gregory B. Jarvis (1), Payload Specialist 1, Sharon Christa McAuliffe (1), Payload Specialist 2 (science.ksc), were parents, friends, children, husbands and wives, heroes, smart human being that were killed on this tragic day. May God be with your soul and may your memories and courage and passion shall not be forgotten but instead drive future generation determination and passion. The crash of the space shuttle
V. [Thesis and Preview] I would like to inform and attempt to condense the topic of space exploration, whose scope and scale is as limitless as the universe itself. I'd like to start by giving attention to unmanned spaceflight, looking into a few notable discoveries made by these technologies. I will then bring together how these findings have fueled the desire for a continual presence of mankind in space, which can seen through the inception of the International Space Station.
The impossible was accomplished today in Indianapolis. Homer Hickam and the Rocket Boys won first place at the National Science Fair. Homer Hickam, son of the town mine’s superintendent John Hickam, would follow his father's legacy down in the mines. Homer, however, had other plans. The day the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, Homer was inspired to launch a rocket.
The space race that originally begun with the launch of Sputnik in 1957 had come to an effective end. During the Space Race there was heavy competition between the countries. Even with a strong lead, The Soviets had taken heavy loss to competition after they had made four failed attempts to launch a lunar landing craft between 1969 and 1972, including a spectacular launch-pad explosion in July 1969. From beginning to end, the American public’s attention was captivated by the space race, and the various developments of technology by the Soviet and U.S. space programs. The Space had drawn national and international attention.
The space race was an event very closely related to the Wright Brothers’ endeavor as the competition of innovating aeroespacial technology was at an all-time peak. The Russians and Americans were neck in neck participating in a race that would define a nation's history forever. The competition was fierce and the buildup was exhilarating, the failures of nations past would be riding on the shoulder of these two Giants. When the dust finally settled, a new era was born from the United states’ triumph. The space exploration era would define the rest of the 20th and even leaking into the 21st as well. With these two monumental pioneering movements, each defining their own epoch with ingenuity and hard work, one can truly say that history does indeed repeat itself at times and in remarkable
The topic I have chosen was The NASA Space Shuttle Program, and the reason I had chosen it was because I have always been interested in going into outer space. Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always wanted to be able to float around in a little shuttle in outer space. Just the thought of feeling weightless has fascinated me.

It is within man’s blood and nature to explore, and space is our next New World. Man’s first achievement in space travel was the launch of the Sputnik on October 4, 1957. For the next decades, space travel was roaring like a rocket, fueled by man’s desire to explore, man’s desire for knowledge, and man’s desire to beat his enemies. However, these impulses have died out as the well of government funding has been diverted to wars and debts, and the interest of the American people has been diverted to wars and debts. Amidst all these issues it is debated as to whether or not space travel is worth the money and the attention of scientists, particularly since humanity faces so many issues on earth currently. However, because of the past inventions, current services, and future benefits, space travel is indeed worth the money and attention of governments and people. It is within our hands to control man’s advancement, and space travel is the next venue to do so.
Overall, the Astronomy conversation was a success. Sharing of information led to new ideas and a great discussion on the future of space travel. All participants learned something new about the future of space travel. Last, it was obvious that regardless of age, education, or professional background, people are interested and excited about the future of space travel.
