Rising Violence: An Unsettling Trend in Oakland

The crime-rate of violence in Oakland has been increasing over the years, causing chaos in the communities. Hence, the city of Oakland has become one of the worst cities in the United States to live. The residents don’t feel safe anymore because they are afraid they might be victims of the organized crime or the violence. Due to the rise in violent crime in Oakland, residents are often fearful to leave their homes at night; therefore, the regional government should provide additional funds to aid the city in combating crime.
The rise in crime violence has cause the residents to remain in their home during the night. In the early years, Oakland is used to be an industrial city that promoted the commerce and the devolvement of new business. In effect, most of the business were shut down leaving the city as a ghost town. In addition, the crime-rate has drastically increased over the past three years according to the police department of Oakland. I noticed that there is a correlation between the collapse of the economic and the increase of crime rate. If the economic is bad, there will increase in crime violence. Hence, during this years the police department reported cases of , 359 aggravated assault, 24 rape, 509 robbery, 2,048 burglary and 10 homicides. This statistical data shows that the city has problems enforcing the law, which means the city doesn’t have enough funds to hire new officers. Indeed, if we compare the rate of burglary from the Oakland police department during 2016 to 2017, there is an increase of 649 cases of burglary in this year.
