1. The first piece from the At Home With Monsters exhibit I liked was the statue of La Metre. This is a statue of one of the characters from the 2014 film, The Book of Life, which was produced by Del Toro. What I especially liked about the statue was the colours that were used. I think that the yellow/orange of the base complemented nicely with the pink of her dress. I also loved the small details of the statue. I found the detail of the flowers in her hair and on her dress as well as the detail of her face paint to be amazing. The second painting that I really enjoyed was Time Avenue, which was painted in 1997 by Jacek Yerka. I really liked the painting because of the mood it created. The atmosphere of the exhibit was very creepy and mysterious. The lighting in the exhibit was like of low and the walls were painted a dark shade of red. There was also creepy music playing in the background. Overall, the atmosphere in the exhibit really fits in with the art that was displayed. A lot of the art was horror based and having the atmosphere of the room reflect that made the entire experience even better. 3. I would say that my biggest obsession is collecting books. I love to read and I love having my own personal copy of my favourite books. I take pride in having my books out on display and so far, I have completely filled up my bookshelf. My favourite books to read are novels, especially historical fiction and thrillers. My only fear is that someday I will have so many books that I will have no place to put them! 4. The director uses these objects to inform his films by using them as inspiration. He takes ideas from his artwork and adapts them to use in his films. The exhibit included many sketchbook drawings of pieces that would end up being used in his films. For example, one sketch was called The Pale Man’s Fireplace. She uses very vibrant colours that make the painting stand out. She included a red and yellow carpet, bright blue background and bright flowers right in the centre. The artist used a lot of curved lines in the painting and these lines are what create movement. The centre of interest seems to be the red poppy in the middle of the painting. The texture of the painting appears to be smooth. The proportions of the painting are done in an unusual way.
