The Former U.S Governor, Bill Clinton, took office in 1993, and remained president for two terms. He made some controversial decisions that many of the people did not support. Many of these choices were made during his first year as president. Coming into office, President Clinton was very forward-looking. He set the stage for America to be more broad-minded, and to face some of the more liberal goals that are still considered debatable by most Americans today. In Clinton’s first term alone, the nation faced disasters that affected America as whole. Whenever the bombing of the World Trade Center is mentioned, one automatically recalls the events that occurred on September 11th, 2001. The commanders planned to be swift with their actions and finish quickly but events turned for the worst. Somalis shot down the two hovering combat helicopters and the U.S forces that were on the ground were assaulted and ambushed. The exits to the city were blocked and the number of wounded started to multiply. The soldiers were forced to hide and wait for reinforcements to arrive. Eighty-four U.S troops were injured and eighteen died in the seventeen hour battle. Soldier’s dead bodies were stranded in the streets of Mogadishu, leaving American’s devastated and confused as to how such a tragedy could occur. Clinton responded with removing all U.S soldiers from Somalia and abandoned the hunt for Aidid and his aids. The leader of the troops, General Garrison formally wrote President Clinton two weeks after the battle of Mogadishu. He took responsibility for how the battle went and the outcome. This mission was supposed to give peace and relief to the starving people of Somalia, but it was not
