When I was six years old, I spent a month with my father at the University of Pikeville medical school. While I was attending class with my father, I developed an interest in science and how the body works. These classes taught me how to appreciate the human body, and science. Many years later, I came to understand the impact that a physician could have on the lives of a family. My uncle was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. As far back as I can remember he has had to take insulin injections. This has always left an impression on me, because his quality of life has always been dependent upon constant injections to keep him alive; however, despite impacting his quality of life, the many painful injections he has to endure every day allow him to live normal life, without them I would not have him in my life. It is because of the advancements in medical technology …show more content…
My grandmother is a charge nurse at Physicians Regional Medical Center and has been working for over forty years in the labor and delivery unit of the Women's Pavilion. My uncle is an obstetrician and gynecologist in Johnson City, TN. Medicine impacted their lives to enable them to give back to others the very care that made a difference in their own lives. Many of my family members require assistance from medicine to be able to carry out their daily lives. My grandfather has been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder. I have two cousins who were diagnosed with Type I diabetes before they were seven years old. My wife needed a physician when she gave birth to my daughter in January of 2015. She is currently pregnant with my son, due March of 2016; therefore, she is under the care of a trusted physician again. Physicians have impacted my family in many ways, enabling them to carry on their daily lives. I have always wanted to become a physician to be able to give other families the same chance that mine has been
7th grade brought opportunity to discover more about medicine. Mrs. Barrett asked us to research an interesting careers. I picked pediatrics. I chose to tap into a first-hand experience by sitting down with Dr. Wayne. Every patient to him was like solving a Scooby Doo mystery. Sick kids were so young that, they could not always tell what was going on and parents were also at a loss for words. However, often times there were hints as to the illness. Arriving at a
I was first exposed to medicine while physician shadowing in grad school. I shadowed Dr. Isaac Kim, aurologist at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
My father, two paternal uncles, two maternal uncles, five cousins, and two cousin’s husbands. Three cousins who are in medical school along my sister who is on the premed track. These are the statistics behind my claim of being from a family of physicians. Importantly, these statistics do not hold much importance in my choosing of becoming a family medicine physician. In my last year of medical school, evaluating my personal experiences with my family, my country of origin, and future opportunities, I decided that family medicine was the field I wanted to be a part of.
...epersonalized. Although not every patient is easy to deal with and doctors are under colossal pressure, by inspiring students with a possible future in the medical field to get involved with type of community service early we can ameliorate the distressing situation. Coming into contact with, speaking to, and intimately understanding these incredible individuals can dramatically alter one’s perspective and ensure treatment with self respect and dignity. I strongly believe in this notion of early involvement. My changed view coupled with my future medical training in college will allow me to be a figure to emulate and hopefully inspire others to follow this path. By embarking on this monumental journey mankind has the opportunity to shape history and enrich the lives of others while personally experiencing the most rewarding of all endeavors: helping someone in need.
A documentary Doctors ' Diaries produced real-life stories of seven first-year medical students from Harvard University. The film shows emotions and mental stress that goes through medical students while becoming a doctor and how it affects them. Medical students choose medicine or pre-med as a career to help save people, but the challenges interns interfere with are their personal life and education. At first, the interns were excited about their future and then over time they became tired and damage in certain ways; Tom Tarter was one of the interns that had to go through their medical education, internship, and family life at 21 years old.
Four years ago I lost a very special person in my life from cancer. My grandpa's death had a huge impact on my life along with my other family members. My grandpa was my biggest fan and probably the Wisconsin Badger's as well. Every game I could look into the stands and he would be there. Since he has passed, before every basketball game I think of him saying "Shoot a couple 3's for me tonight". I used this as an inspiration to do my best in every play of the game. My grandpa helped me set personal goals such as making fifty three's in a season, which I accomplished my last game of my junior year.
Another widely known accomplishment of mine is the “Hippocratic Oath”, documentation on ethics and morals within medical practices that will forever influence physicians worldwide. I also came up with the Four Humors, four things that a person is constructed of, and when these four things, (black bile, yellow bile, blood, and phlegm) are unbalanced, you become sick. So now we have answers to why we are ill, and that feedback allows us a target of attack on how to cure the ailment. I have studied the human body since adolescence, alongside my father, medical environments, schooling, and self teachings, and have led to solutions for things such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, and even epilepsy in children. I am a Greek Physician who developed the iconic history of medicine by revolutionizing, and made it a desirable profession throughout
Up until a few years ago I never thought that one of my grandparents would be in a nursing home. I had always been lucky to have them healthy. However, this changed about a year ago when my grandfather had a mini-stroke, which caused him to require extra care my grandmother could not provide. Watching my family deal with my grandfather made me aware of the care and services the elderly need and has made me realize how important it is to volunteer at a local nursing home.
The life of a successful physician is my ultimate pursuit due to its fulfilment of all of my personal desires: a complete knowledge of the human body, a desire to impact the world positively, and a yearning to lead a life dedicated to helping others. My personal drive towards medicine came about-in part -due to the passion both my parents possess for their jobs. This opened the doors of curiosity which led into further personal studies and exploration within the field. I would be an asset to medical school and the medical profession due to my absolute humanitarian motives, the profitable experiences that have helped me grow as an individual, and my passion for the sciences.
When I was seven years old my mother was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma. This began the long cycle of hospital stays and doctor visits. Seeing how the doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel took care of her inspired me to be like them. The hospital staff was friendly and attentive to every aspect of her care, if it were not for them my mom would not have been able to continue to watch me grow up. I owe every moment spent with my mom to the surgeons, nurses, and practitioners of Froedtert Hospital. The best way I can think of giving back to the field that gave me so much is by becoming a part of it.

Influence is one of the greatest effects people have on us that defines who we are as we grow and learn. Influence is aroused by people media and advertisements. The largest influence in my life has been my very own family. While not all of the effects of their influence were derived from good they shaped me into who I am today. They have instilled within me traits of financial responsibility, confidence, and the courage to fail.
Everyone has that one person in their life has influenced to be who they are. Some weren’t meant to be looked up to, still somehow that person shaped them to be who they are today. It could be anyone, a friend, teacher, most of the time a parent. A parent that has influenced their child would be a hard parent, who disciplined and showed the real world to their kid, for what it really is. In hopes that their kid will survive the real world and pass on their knowledge to their kids and their children and so on.
Another primary reason of why I want to be a nurse is the chance of making a difference in other people’s life. Being able to help them with something as big as making life and death decisions to something as small as listening to their stories is an opportunity to influence their lives. And this is something that I will want to do for a long time. Also, I have a grandfather and a dad who are both sick. I enjoy assisting them with all their needs and being with them during doctor appointments. Moreover, I know that they will continue to need my help in the
Right now science education plays a very significant role in the improvement of the medicinal field. Hundreds of thousands of educated doctors in the US are helping patients with anything from the flu to cancer. It is not just doctors though: science education is enlightening kids to be researchers, scientists, and more. If science was not taught, this world would be full of unanswered questions and wrong answers. Science is so amazing that if we didn’t pass down this knowledge of what we have gained, all our hard work would be for noth...
