The Maze Runner: Admirable Character Essay

The Maze Runner is a fast-paced book that focuses on a futuristic, dystopian world. It is filled with various personalities, making it fun and interesting to read. There are humorous characters like Chuck, determined ones like Minho, and even fascinating characters like Teresa. The book has many admirable characters, however, the most admirable one is certainly Thomas. A courageous friend, a motivation for others, and an individual with a growth mindset, clearly, Thomas is by far the most admirable character in The Maze Runner. One of the things the reader learns about Thomas is that he is a courageous friend. In fact, he risks his life for the people around him numerous times. He even pushed his limits to save the life of someone whom he just met, and decides to endure the seemingly endless pain of being stung by a Griever to help everyone escape the Maze. “An explosion of fear ripped through Thomas. It was now or never. [. . .] Without hesitating, knowing the others would think he was trying to commit suicide, Thomas sprinted in their direction until he found himself in the middle of the pack of creatures. [. . .] Is this a prison?” These are just a few of the questions that Thomas asked out loud, and with only these, we can already tell that Thomas has an eager and willing personality that allows him to work harder and to learn more. Moreover, Thomas has really been determined to help everyone escape, even though he knew that the real world wasn’t what he expected. This shows that he didn’t want to keep living the way they did, being manipulated and controlled, and has hope that they would be able to live
