Power, “possession of control, authority, or influence over others” as defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary. Power is truly powerful when held in the hands of one person. It can cause a divide amongst a country or even people in general. What really lies behind the true meaning of power is how it affects people, either negatively or positively. Ultimately causing people to feel differently depending on what is put into place by the one who holds the authority. I believe that power can always be corrupt in many types of ways, but it can be more harmful to some than others and therefore does not affect everyone equally.

In this particular case we observe a time where the use of power is taken too far and has harmed others. A research done by Philip Zimbardo, also in the making of a movie, shows that no one responds to power the same. The Stanford Prison Experiment, an experiment done to study the psychological effects of power by replicating the students (all young males) as prison guards and prisoners, presents just this, “Yes, power corrupts. But power does not corrupt everyone equally”(Kaufman). This goes to say that it is nearly impossible that these young males represented all humans across the board who are in prison. Also, the participants who participated in this research were all volunteers, meaning they knew what they were getting into and perhaps were interested in it. Overall, some may have been affected more than others because of the treatment they received in the prison, while others didn't really think anything of it. This shows that just because one has power, and can control a group of people, essentially it doesn't hurt everyone
