Tris changes from being unsure and weak to a strong, brave, and determined in the book, Divergent. In the beginning of the story, Tris thinks she is not selfless enough to be in Abnegation. She is even more confused as her aptitude test determines she is divergent, a person who has more than one personality type who is suited for more than one faction. As she transfers to Dauntless, Tris realizes that she is at a disadvantage in Stage One, which involved physical activity. She is short and scrawny, and she doesn’t excel in an of the exercises alongside losing the fights. This threatens her chance of passing initiation. As a result of this sudden change, Tris misses her caring family. However, Tris doesn’t mourn and drown in self-pity. Instead,
Taylor's courage shown throughout this novel and her risk taking attitude make her truly independent, but her relationships that she has formed in her new life, and her maturing and empathy she shows towards them make her truly strong. Taylor truly has a genuine and good heart. I really did enjoy her character despite the confusion in the beginning dealing with her reaction to being thrown a child. She seemed to be to calm about it in the beginning but by the end of Bean Trees I understand her more and I believe she has truly grown into this amazing woman. She is a great mother, an amazing friend, a risk taker filled with compassion for others and her courage completely shines through. Her journey began as being a normal teenager and ended as a loving mother.
Within the novel, “In the Time of the Butterflies,” Mate, Minerva, Dede, and Patria had to create decisions to overcome obstacles that would transform each of their lives. Throughout the book, all of the sisters changed somehow. They all grew up, matured, and saw things how they never viewed before. While looking at these things at a different perception, they learned to make decisions that were sometimes brave and sometimes cowardly. Each of the Mirabal sisters had to choose whether or not to be fearful and give up, or be courageous and stand her ground, or make sacrifices to show her strength throughout the novel.
Although Patria is concerned with the regime she isn’t on board with the revolution yet, unlike her sisters Minerva and Mate. While on the church retreat Patria watches a boy get shot in the back by guards. She is so stricken by his death that she feels like she has lost another child, “My stillborn of thirteen years ago. My murdered son of a few hours ago.” (162). Patria is so devastated by the loss of her “son” that she decides for herself that it is time to take action. The unforeseen murder prompts Patria to begin another metamorphosis. Because Patria is so pious and protective over her family it is not expected of her to take part in such a risky movement, but it is those same characteristics that give her the courage to resist the regime. The concern for the well being of her family and the involvement of the church in the revolution bring Patria to form her new conclusion: “Amen to the revolution” (164). Patria wants a better life for her family and she now sees that the only way to achieve this is through the revolution; she must make a sudden change which is similar to the quick transition of a caterpillar to a butterfly. After some convincing, Patria is able to persuade her husband Pedrito to allow revolutionaries to meet in their backyard and eventually turn their home into a rebel control center. Patria evolves from an innocent bystander to a

First, in Divergent, Veronica Roth uses character archetypes to show how Tris is a brave hero. When Tris first arrives in Dauntless and is still an initiate going through training, she is still getting used to being brave. Tris is practicing throwing her knives and is getting pretty good but next to her Al is struggling. Eric is angry with Al, so Eric makes Al stand in front of the target and is going to have Four throw knives at Al. Tris is angry so she says to stop and ends up having to stand in front of the target instead of Al. This shows how brave she is, standing up for her friend and having knives thrown at her. "Stop it" Four turns the knife in his hand, his fingers moving painstakingly over the metal edge. He gives me such a hard look
It is then understood that both sisters think differently about change. One is hostile towards it while the other seemed to welcome change for the greater part of the book, but retreated at the end. It appears as if the two girls are afraid of change and much rather live on their own than interact with other people. They seem to think that isolation is their best friend and keeps them safe from unwanted visitors.
...inds love along the way. She makes rash decisions in bad situations, faces the truth that she has been avoiding, and finds her place in the world. While her journey takes some unexpected twists, Lily learns to make the best of what she has, and go for what she wants. She learns to move on from the past, and make a brighter future. But most importantly, Lily learns to accept that life is unpredictable and that by doing her best Lily is living life the way she wants to.
In order for there to even be a story, the person needs to overcome this stage, otherwise the person would just stay in their comfort zone thus, not making the story interesting for the reader. This is almost like a character v. self problem.
In literature when faced with danger or tremendous stress often times people change. As a result this happened in Red Badge of Courage and The Luck of Roaring Camp. In Red Badge a young boy named Henry undergoes a change of being self-centered to being willingly able to die for others. Then in the Luck of Roaring Camp all the men started to change when the baby was born. Each character or characters in each work had a change based on their circumstances whether it be a positive or negative.
The chapter continues in Tris's perspective, and describes her nervousness about Caleb's trial. She knows he will most likely be executed, but still worries, despite his betrayal. She informs the others about the Allegiant meeting, and they all go to Candor headquarters. The leaders of the Allegiant turn out to Johanna, the Amity leader, and Cara, Will's Erudite sister. Tris, Tobias, and the other former Dauntless are chosen to escape the city the following night.
Lakshmi has changed because she gave in and joined the other girls but, Lakshmi has remained the same by being dependent on someone who cares for her.
I said that the more we face adversities the stronger we become. An example is when Miep was a little girl in WWI, she became sick. Miep had weak bones, she describes herself on p.17,”My legs were sticks dominated by bony knee caps. My teeth were strong,” she also wasn’t growing properly. Her parents were told that Miep might die. Her parents then sent her with other kids to Amsterdam where she got taken care of by another respective family. It was a struggle to fit in and learn the daily routines of the people in Amsterdam. She also had to face her real family being away. Miep never gave up and eventually learned the skills. This connects to my answer because it showed how identity changed. After lea...
1. Describe the two methods of TRIZ that can be used to approach a problem.
She has a job and honestly enjoys her work at the hospital. Her life has been filled with men making decisions for her, never having her own freedom to make her own choices. Her first husband she was actually “gifted” to and after his death she was married a second time. Now a single mother she continues her daily rituals and goes about her life, living a quiet existence until she meets and falls in love with the widower, Bosaaso. Duniya never struck fear in the hearts of men, she never craved or strived for power. She seemed to only ever want freedom for herself to make her own choices and for her country to finally be at peace. She wanted a stable life for herself and her children. Although her daughter pushed her boundaries and was rebellious at times, Duniya admired her bravery and courage when it came to making difficult choices. Duniya was a calm rational woman who never had the chance to taste power or ever feel as if she had any leadership role other than being a mother and a wife. However as the novel continues the reader gets a taste of Duniya’s strive for independence. She takes her first swimming lesson, in which she is over come with fear of drowning. Her heart is overcome with the notion that she could drown and in that moment she makes a choice. To not live by fear but to take control of her fear and use it to her advantage. Duniya stays afloat
Like any typical teenager, she makes a lot of “I” statements that makes her seem self-centered such as, “I still look like a little girl [Roth 2].” She is overshadowed by her brother’s, Caleb Prior, selflessness that often led to her thinking of only what she wanted. However, later we are able relate to Tris because we feel a kinship with her, especially when she decides to get her first tattoo: three ravens positioned from her collarbone to her heart, each one representing a member of her family she left behind. The raven tattoo also symbolizes her original fear of choosing a new faction and becoming her own person. Later, she decides to get the Abnegation seal tattooed on her right shoulder which shows her final acceptance of the Abnegation faction being a vital part of her life and who she is. At this point in the novel you can also see that Tris is not about herself. She accepts the role her family plays in her past, but instead of dwelling on that past; she embraces it and moves towards what her future
