The Five People You Meet in Heaven was written by the American author, Mitch Albom in 2003. This suspenseful, drama filled, philosophical fiction novella was published by Random House Large Print and is enjoyed by people of all ages. This 322 page book is best known for the heart wrenching story line and the twists and turns that impact not only the story but the characters as well. Detailed scenes, characters and places make the book come to life and transports the reader to a new world. In the exposition the reader is informed of the quiet eighty three year old man, Eddie who works as maintenance at the Ruby Pier Amusement Park. The rising action is after Eddie dies he is brought to heaven and meets five different people he is somehow connected to. Those five people then show him how their past, Eddie’s choices, and everything they have done affected his future. Each person shares an important lesson with Eddie before he can continue on to the next person. Eddie learned from the Blue Man that everyone is connected in someway, he learns from the Captain how important sacrifice is and how it is done on a daily basis, Ruby teaches Eddie the importance of forgiveness which leads to Eddie ultimately forgiving his father, and Marguerite teaches him that love is everlasting. The climax is when Eddie meets his last person in heaven which is Tala, and throughout the whole book the readers questioned who was in the fire that Eddie started after breaking free from imprisonment during the war. Tala is described with burn scars all over her body and he discovers that he was right, and there was a child in that fire, which was Tala, and he killed her. Tala tells Eddie that her scars can be washed off wash off and gives him a rock to wash them off. The resolution is when Tala explains to him the purpose of his life was to protect children and while he was trying to save the little girl at the pier, the hands he felt were not the little girls’ but Tala’s hands pulling him up to
