Positive aspects of Hip-hop Music has a significant impact on the society we live in today, especially Hip-hop. Hip-hop is defined as, “a cultural movement that attained widespread popularity in the 1980s and ’90s; also, the backing music for rap, the musical style incorporating rhythmic and/or rhyming speech that became the movement’s most lasting and influential art form.” Although Hip-hop contributes to our society in many ways, not everyone agrees that hip hop has a positive impact. Jeffrey Hicks, the author of, “How Hip-Hop Destroys the Potential of Black Youth” believes Hip-hop deadens the drive towards civility and legitimizes backwardness (Hicks). However, he fails to mention the positive contributions Hip-hop has made and continues to make in our society today. Hip hop is played on the radio and social media constantly, so it becomes quite easy for everyone to learn a song. One example is, I was at the park with a friend one day and we were quite bored. Out of nowhere, we hear a familiar hip hop song being played, and everyone in the park starts to shout the lyrics out in unison and eventually we all start to dance together. I met a lot of people that day and a few I still talk to today. Hip hop brought us together because we could all relate to it, and it encourages expression. It’s amazing how Hip-hop music can bring a group of complete strangers together. As can be seen, Hip-hop is a cultural movement and music style that has many positive effects on society. Hip-hop brings relativeness between people and encourages change, along with the overall growth of the community. Though there are negative view on Hip-hop we should never forget to mention the positive impact ,because it has don’t some amazing things for our community ,all the while giving some pretty great
