It can be seen in history and modern society that people have opposing opinions on disobedience. As a result some people believe that we should always live by the rules put in place while others believe they need to fight for change through disobedience. Author Oscar Wilde thought that disobedience is a virtue because it helped progress societies and causes social reform. Something is virtuous when it helps others and shows strong morals. Disobedience is when people does not follow the rules that are in place. Social reform is the progression of societies to improve them for the citizens.Disobedience is a virtue considering it allows people to fight for what they believe and cause social progress. First the Underground Railroad displays how disobedience is useful in making progress. The Underground Railroad allowed slaves to run away from their masters and gain freedom in the North or Canada. People allowed slaves to stay in their homes while they were going North. The Underground Railroad helped create progress seeing that it allowed more slaves to become free. For example, in The Hunger Games Katniss and Peeta refuse to fight each other in the Hunger Games. They act like they are going to eat poisonous berries so that they will both die instead of killing each other. This is rebellion against the government, but it causes social changes as people start fighting against the government in order to institute a new government where people are not forced to kill each other in the Hunger Games. This demonstrates how disobedience created positive changes for the characters in The Hunger Games in view of that it made it so teenagers no longer fought in the Hunger Games. This shows that disobedience is virtuous because they saved other people from having to fight in the Hunger
