In a racist town where people are overly judged based on rumors spread around. A man who has yet to be seen named Boo Radley is made into the town monster. Little do they know that Bob is one of the only people in Maycomb who does not judge people by their race. In the book “To Kill A Mockingbird” written by Harper Lee, the main character Atticus Finch is a lawyer in the little town of Maycomb. Atticus Finch the father of Scout and Jem has been faced with one of the hardest cases of his life. Atticus is forced to defend a black man named Tom Robinson on the fact that he raped a white girl named Mayella Ewell. Integrity means the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles As the men discourse in the courtroom they mention their animosity on Atticus. One of the men state 's, “Yeah but Atticus aims to defend him that 's what i don 't like about it.” (ch.16, pg.218) Atticus is being fair and doing his best to defend even though Tom is black. He is sticking to his own morals and not listening to others thoughts. Atticus’ integrity is showing because he stuck to his own thoughts. Most people in Maycomb believe Atticus is crazy to defend a black man but he is doing it for his own personal morals. Atticus says “The main one is, if I didn 't I couldn 't hold up my head in town, I couldn 't represent this county in the legislature, I couldn 't even tell you or Jem not to do something again.” (ch.9, pg.100) As a father Atticus must set an example for his kids and this means he does not tell them to do something that he would not do himself. Atticus want his kids to be racially accepting just like himself. This is showing integrity because atticus sticks to his own thought in himself and how he lives his life. It is true that Atticus would lose the thoughtful reputation that the town has given him. When Miss. Maudie 's house catches on fire Atticus do a thoughtful dead. “"I saw Atticus carrying Miss Maudie 's heavy oak rocking chair, and thought it sensible of him to save what she valued most."(ch.8, pg.93) He is being thoughtful in this situation to Miss.Maudie which is noticed by the neighbors and respected by them. They however have the Maycomb diseases and will lose respect for Atticus if he defends Tom Robinson. However if Atticus defends Tom he will gain the thoughtful reputation from another group of people, he will gain that reputation from the african americans. As the court cases ends and Tom is declared guilty and the blacks do what they can do to show their respect to Atticus. “Miss Jean louise stand up your father 's passing” (ch.21, pg.283) Atticus has lost the case and many friends that day. However he gained more friends and most importantly respect from those who respect him sticking to his morals.
