Primary Research
Primary research was performed within the Fiscal Services Department. Ten of the forty employees were asked to take a survey to grasp how they will benefit from reducing the triggers, such as lighting, noise, locations, and scents.
Secondary Research
Secondary research was collected from a variety of peer-reviewed sources to determine how migraines do cause issues in the department.

Benefits for Employees
Accommodating employees is manageable for supporting and making alterations in the workplace for the staff members who suffer from migraines. To lower the symptoms of having migraines, the triggers that cause migraines need to be removed from the surrounding areas of the employees suffering.

Providing employees with adjustable artificial lighting, such as a dimmer switch for ceiling lights, will allow the employee to select the amount of light preferred. Bright light seems to increase the pain, so employees prefer to be in a dark room during a migraine episode. According to The New York Times (2010), a “light-induced migraine is common, and light often amplifies the pain after a headache has begun” (When light triggers migraines, 2010, para 1).
Moving employees to an area with less traffic reduces the noise level for those that suffer from migraines is a second way an organization can lower the causes of oncoming migraines. Implementing a fragrance-free environment policy would be a third way an employer could accommodate employees with migraines. Executing the new policy will delete the smell of fragrances, therefore, reducing, even more, triggers for on-coming migraines, making for happier
Shuttleworth, A., (2004). Managing workplace stress: how training can help. Industrial and Commercial Training, 36 (2), 61 – 65.
The workplace is a very sensitive place, especially in businesses. The workers need to be motivated by their bosses to do work properly. Otherwise, they get demoralized. The managers should not be harsh in correcting mistakes since mistakes are bound to happen in any scenario. The manager should have a democratic way of communicating with the employees, this way they become free and the job environment becomes conducive. It is evident in job-friendly environments that jobs are well done and profits increase.
It is often very difficult to determine whether the primary cause of CTS is primarily due to work conditions or an underlying medical problem. CTS almost always occurs in adults and most adults work; CTS, then is very likely to be associated with the work place whether or not it is actually caused by work itself. Estimates of work-related CTS vary wildly. Some studies suggest that more than half are due to workplace factor...
The law enforcement officers suffer quite more job-associated stress than the people living in the community. Many have had to realize that the nature of the profession itself may be exposing officers to the increased levels of stressors. In essence, job-associated stress is among the major health concerns of the law enforcement community, and this is because it can have some impact on the physical, mental and emotional well-being of the officers. The difference in the stressors between the law enforcement personnel and other individuals is the fact that, the enforcement officials get to interact with the human population that are quite angry, upset or even uncooperative, in which case it takes some toll on
Making lifestyle changes to avoid certain environmental triggers may also help to reduce or prevent migraines from occurring.
Every year communities struggle each year around the nation with issues of life safety. In 2012, the nation’s fire departments responded to 31,854,000 responses that resulted in the deaths 0f 2,855 civilians and injuring 16,500 causing an estimated $12,427 million dollars in damage. (United States Fire Administration, 2014) These incidents put at risk 345,950 career and 783,300 volunteer firefighters that resulted in the deaths of 81 individuals (U.S. Department of Homeland Security, 2013) and nearly 70,000 reported injuries. ( Karter & Molis, 2013) These numbers represent incidents that are determined to be in the line of duty but do not take into consideration the long-term health risk issues that may develop. Evidence shows that he hazards associated with Fire and Emergency Services are consistent across the board whether paid or volunteer and jeopardize the lives and health of each individual, placing administrative and physical control measures reduces this risk to firefighter within an organization. While it is impossible to eliminate the hazards firefighters face, it is important to identify these hazards as the first step in reducing the potential for loss of life and wellbeing both physically and mentally.
For nursing, research has played a major role in the way clinical practice is done. Research has allowed nurses to provide appropriate care to patients. It allows them to perform their job by providing them the tools and information they need in order to make the decisions on the concerns for caring the patient (Polit & Beck, 2006). Moreover, research can also take focus on the workers themselves in order to improve the practice both on a professional and personal level. An example of a study conducted by King, Vidourek, and Schweibert of University of Cincinnati created a study to determine if there is a correlation between ...
When we seek out interprofessional evidence-based practices, we find successful studies that take into consideration the three concepts
The population in the study was a convenience sample from the Radnor Fire Company. The fire company has approximately 77 members including the career staff, active and honorary active members (RFC, n.d.). Members were asked if they would like to participate in the study at the end of a company meeting on February 19th, 2018.
For the mystery shopper assignment, I decided to cover three retail stores located in Janesville, WI, Shopko, Target, and Wal-Mart. For this reason, I created a survey style format with two specific topics in mind, store appearance/cleanliness and store employees, to answer eleven questions. These questions focus on certain criteria’s, such as parking lot condition, restroom facilities, and interior mobility to name a few. In order to compare each store, a number ranking from one (lowest) through five (highest) grades the questions. Upon completion, the total numbers obtain are divided by eleven to give a rating for each individual store, and therefore, allowing us to compare each store’s overall performance to one another.
“The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) estimates that fully 90% of adults will experience one or more headaches during their life… About two-thirds of children have had a headache of one type or another by the time they reach the age of 15 years” (Pray, 2014). Making headaches one of the top complaints patients have when visiting the doctor's office. Due to the wide spectrum of headaches it is important for a patient to know when the option of self treatment with over the counter drugs is relevant, and when it is time to seek further medical care by a physician. The patient can make this decision by first knowing what kind of headache they are having, which will allow them to make the call of what to do next in terms of treatment. These are the topics that will be discussed in the following.
For the first research log I chose an article from the Harvard Health website on migraine sufferers have a higher risk for stroke after having surgery. The article states that a study that included 124,558 patients, with 45 percent of them being men, had a history of having migraines either with or without aura.
1. The types of specialists that can help with a migraine diagnosis are doctors who focus on treating people with migraines. These doctors can be internal medicine doctors, family practice doctors, neurologists, or other specialists who see many patients with headache disorders. Most migraine & headache specialists have completed additional training and have additional certification in treating headaches. They may also work in a clinic dedicated to treating headaches. In addition, a neurologist is a doctor trained in diagnosing and treating disorders and diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. Neurologists examine and treat the nerves in the head and neck as well as diagnose problems with memory, balance, speech, thinking and
The aura happens before the actual headache begins. When a person has an aura, one can experience flashes of light, blind spots, dizziness, and sensitivity to light. In addition, some people who experience migraines isolate themselves in dark quiet places such as closets and under the covers to help reduce the pain. According to (Estemalik and Tepper 2010) In the U.S., 18% of women suffers compared to 6% of men. Women suffer more from migraines due to the many roles played daily. In a household, women are full-time workers, hold high positions at their employment and juggle family
In order to find a solution to the issue of stress in the workplace, it is important to first understand what stress is. Stress is a difficult issue to solve because everyone experiences stress differently. According to the National Institute of mental health, stress can be defined as the brain’s response to any demand (“Fact Sheet on Stress”). When there is any sort of change going on, it usually triggers the stress response. Since people are always dealing with certain changes in their lives, they are always dealing with some type of stress. One of the biggest growing issues with stress is stress in the workplace. According to Northweste...
