How “The Lion King” changed from its root story: “Sundiata”
The beloved movie “The Lion King” is actually based on a african folktale called sundiata. Sundiata is the story of a young boy who is heir to the throne. However, due to family issues, he is not accepted as king. You can probably already start to see the similarities. In “The Lion King” many story points from the original story are taken out because it had to be transformed for american culture.
In the lion king, the heir to the throne was perfectly healthy and handsome.n the story Sundiata, the heir to the throne had broken legs, and had to overcome that to become king. the only thing he did was marry sundiata’s mom. He also helped procreate to make sundiata, But the point is he died very early on and didn’t come back, contrasting to The Lion King. In The Lion King the father of the main character is his whole motivation for running away. The father also comes back in a cloud like form to tell simba to “remember” who he is. The father is almost entirely simba’s forward motivation, even though in the base story the father had a much smaller role. This may prove that this happened because America prefers for parents to have larger roles in their kid’s life. This means it will probably affect kids films to tell children they can trust in their parents. Or its telling them their parents will die in a stampede and come back looking like the second christ. It’s probably the first one though. This proves American prefer parents to be good role
