The texts Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare and “Pyramus and Thisbe” by Ovid are both texts that are about lovers. The personal choices Romeo and Juliet made were because they weren’t allowed to be with each other, because their parents were rivals. As for Pyramus and Thisbe, they weren’t allowed to be together because both of their parents didn’t let them be together, which had caused them to make the choices they had made. In both of the stories, others might say that destiny had a greater impact on the characters because of how fast the characters had made their choices. Since Thisbe wasn’t actually dead she had found Pyramus dead, once she had seen him dead she too had killed herself because she wanted to be with her true love “I too can be brave”. I too can love this. Only death would have had the power to separate us”. She had killed herself by using Pyramus' sword and stabbing it right into her heart. Thisbe chose to kill herself because she wanted to be with Pyramus. In Romeo and Juliet, personal choice affected them a lot because when they would do something, they would never think about the consequences. For instance, in the play Juliet goes to Friar Lawrence asking for anything, just not to get married to Paris. Therefore Friar had given her a potion to drink so she would not be able to go to Paris and make it seem like she had died. So she would be able to be with Romeo. Since she had drunk the potion that Friar had given her, everyone had thought that she had died, including Romeo. Romeo was supposed to know that she didn’t, but the letter that Friar needed to send out never made it to Romeo.
