When you love Jesus you would not betray Him.
4.You would not betray Jesus (10-11)
(Read 10-11), In the midst of such an expression of love by Mary, there is a great hatred and jealousy by one of the disciples. Judas one of the twelve who spent three years with Jesus and travelling everywhere with him goes to the chief priest to betray Jesus. He becomes the inside man for the religious leaders. Judas’ action shows that knowing a lot about Jesus does not save a person. A saved person exhibits faith and genuine love.
Mark implies that Judas is fully responsible for his betray of Jesus. He goes to the chief priest they did not come to him and his offer causes them great joy. It is not their plan to arrest Jesus during the festival. They are fearful of causing a riot due to the popularity of Jesus and the large crowds of people present serious problems of security for the Romans. Judas solves their problem and they seal the deal by giving Judas that which he loves most, money. Listen to what 1 Timothy 6:10 says, “For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with

many griefs.” Mary pours a year’s wages (300 denarii) of oil on Jesus because she loves Him.
Judas betrays Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. You may be asking why did Judas do this? His heart was not in the right place. When our hearts are not in the right place it opens the door for Satan to use us. Listen to what John 12:2,27 says, “During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon to betray Him.” Verse 27, “After the morsel, Satan then entered into him. Therefore Jesus said to him, “What you do, do quickly.” This is why Peter says in 1 Peter 4:7, “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” 5:8, “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your
faith.” But there is something else we cannot over look. The action of Judas is the fulfillment of a prophecy about the Messiah in Zechariah 11:12-13. Judas does not know it, but he is fulfilling Scripture by an act of betrayal. Listen because God is sovereign, He can and will use every evil and wickedness to accomplish His plan and for His glory. That’s the wisdom of God at work. Conclusion The contrasts between these two stories are striking. Lets look at them. Mary Judas A woman with no real standing A man, one of the apostles Gave what she could to Jesus Took what he could get for Jesus Blessed her Lord Betrayed his Lord Loved her Lord Used his Lord Did a good thing Did a terrible thing Served Him as her Savior Sold Him like He was his slave Notable forever for her devotion Notorious forever for his betrayal How many people do you know with the name Mary? How many people do you know with the name Judas? How much do you love Jesus? I challenge you today to look at how you are serving and how much you love King Jesus. Is there room for improvement? The first step in demonstrating your love for Jesus is to give Him all of your life. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your strength, with all your soul and with all your mind. Does Jesus have all of you? We all need to examine our motives, our love and our worship. When you consider what Mary did, how does your own love stack up? Is it extravagant? Or, does it seem to be lacking? Here is the message for today: Give Jesus Your Best!
To this day, there are a lot of people that sell their souls to the devil. It all started a long time ago, when people sold their soul for money, beauty, long life, fame, power etc. In Washington Irving’s “The Devil and Tom Walker,” and the movie “Snow White and the Huntsman,” there are people that sell their soul to the devil, like Tom Walker and Queen Ravenna. In “The Devil and Tom Walker,” written by Washington Irving’s, Tom Walker gives his soul to the devil for greed. For example, in the story, it was said, “He accumulated bonds and mortgages, gradually squeezed his customers closer and closer and sent them at length, dry as a sponge, from his door.”
Upon reading the poem "Saint Judas" by James Wright, the reader quickly realizes that the poem deals with Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus' twelve apostles. The author describes Judas as "going out to kill himself,"(line 1) when he sees a man being beaten by "a pack of hoodlums"(2). Judas quickly runs to help the man, forgetting "how [his] day began"(4). He leaves his rope behind and, ignoring the soldiers around him, runs to help. Finally, he remembers the circumstances that surround his suicidal intentions and realizes that he is "banished from heaven"(9) and "without hope"(13) He runs to the man anyway and holds him "for nothing in [his] arms"(14)
Judas Iscariot, the disciple, hanged himself from a tree after betraying Jesus Christ and giving him a kiss. The tree in which Judas hanged himself is known as “Judas Tree” mainly found in Southern Europe and Western Asia. In the short story “Flowering Judas” written by Katherine Anne Porter the title is related to this religious event of betrayal, murder, and denial. “‘Flowering Judas’ is possibly her most remarkable story of tension, sustained, threatened, and reestablished” (Gottfried 134). The two main characters in this short story are Braggioni and Laura. Braggoni is a cruel, powerful leader of Marxist revolutionaries in and around Mexico City. Laura a beautiful American women, age 22, who took up residence in Mexico. The most known theme in Porter’s short story “Flowering Judas” is betrayal. Laura, Braggioni, Braggioni’s wife, and Eugenio are all guilty of betrayal.
There was a Roman and Jewish trial. The Roman trial was because Jesus did not pay taxes to Caesar. and for being a “troublemaker” in Luke’s gospel. The Jewish trial was because Jesus called himself the Messiah. Yet with everything Mary stuck by his side. That puts a theory in everyone’s mind that she loved him very much. Mary was an important figure at the cross. Mary was among a few women who wept seeing Jesus suffer and die. In John’s gospel particularly in 19:25 “standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene”(Bible Verses: Mary Magdalene in Scripture). Mark’s gospel says that Mary was in the distance with the other women.

So what happened to Judas? Well my opinion is that only God knows, but this is what I personally believe (there are many other theories of how Judas died, but it is such an unimportant topic when placed to the gospel as a whole, but know that the Bible is ERROR-FREE and any conclusion must be biblically based).
Satan used his own “honey words” to cause Judas to sin against the man that has always been there for him. Judas was betrayed by his own human thoughts to think that betraying his royal leader -Jesus- over to the Roman soldiers. Jesus had chosen Judas to be his disciple. Jesus had chosen to use Judas to move people to follow Him and support Him. Judas was foolish enough- like Macbeth- to believe that through sin he could achieve his own self-greed for the 30 pieces of

One aspect of his teaching that brought adverse attention to him was his repeated assertion that he was the Son of God sent to the Earth to redeem humankind. This was in direct violation of Jewish law. For this he was condemned to die. Betrayed by one of his apostles, Judas, Jesus did not resist his imprisonment he saw it as the fulfillment of his purpose.

To truly understand the Bible takes a lot of research. One process used to interpret scripture is OIAP. OIAP stands for observation, interpretation, application, and praxis. This process helps you to understand scripture in its text. The passage that is going to be researched in this paper is Mark 14:32-42. My intent through this research is not only to understand the text, but also know how to apply its meaning to today's society. I hope to know more about who Jesus was during His time here on earth. I want to research the human aspect of Christ. It is impossible to understand what Jesus actually felt without understanding his human side. I hope to find out how much of his godliness he retained when he came to earth as a man.
11 That was the end of my covenant with them. Those who bought and sold sheep were watching me, and they knew that the LORD was speaking to them through my actions. 12 And I said to them, "If you like, give me my wages, whatever I am worth; but only if you want to." So they counted out for my wages thirty pieces of silver.
Betrayal is something people experience in everyday life whether it's major or minor, and sometimes we don't expect it to come from certain people in our lives. In the story “The Possibility of Evil” by Shirley Jackson, and “Lamb to the Slaughter”, by Roald Dahl explains different types of betrayal. Ms.Strangeworth in “The Possibility of Evil” showed betrayal to her community by pretending to care for them and acted as if she really wanted the best for them, but she really didn't. In “Lamb to the Slaughter” Patrick showed betrayal to Mary, his pregnant wife, by leaving her at the worst time possible. Although Patrick betrayed her first Mary betrayed him the worst way possible by killing him. In these two stories both Mary and Ms.Strangeworth
Judas Iscariot. A man who usually strikes fear into the hearts of Christians and Jews alike. But who is this praised man of Kerioth, really? He betrayed our LORD for 30 silver shekels. Yet, there HAS to be SOME good in him, or else, why on earth would Jesus pick him? I'll inform you on Judas' possible motives, thoughts that may have been running through his head before and after the fact, his culpability, and the status of his soul.
John 6:66, said that many disciples turned back on Jesus and stopped following him. I think the reason this happened was because Jesus was not going to be the King they anticipated him to be. Jesus knew who was going to turn their back on him and who eventually betray him, like Judas. With this I wondered why did Jesus allow Judas to stay close in the grouping of the twelve. I felt as if he must have thought Judas had the ability to be different and not betray him. To go along with that, I felt as if maybe Jesus allowed Judas to stay because he was giving him the ability to accept Jesus as the savior so that he could have a chance for eternal life.
