Reaction The films that were chosen for the reaction paper are Hope Springs and It’s Kind of a Funny Story. In the film Hope Springs, a married couple by the name Kay and Arnold are celebrating thirty-one years of unhappy marriage. Kay and Arnold are sleeping in separate beds and living their life in a routine (Arnold goes to work as an accountant, Kay prepares the meals at home, and goes to work at a clothing boutique). Arnold has lost interest in Kay and he’s not intimate with Kay after Kay tries multiple times. Eventually Kay finds help in a self-help book with Dr. Feld, a marriage therapist, who offers a one-week therapy session for couples. Feld tried to help Kay and Arnold through a psychodynamic approach, which this approach fixes problems within a marriage- uncertain battles and wants of each spouse. The unresolved conflict in Kay and Arnold’s marriage is no longer being sexually interested in each other. During the psychoanalysis treatment; the therapist may either treat both partners together or treat each partner individually. Normally, the therapist may also focus on a systems approach, which focuses on the interaction between partners between behavior and communication. Dr. Eden is a psychiatrist in the adult psych ward that forced Craig to stay in the facility for five extra days. After Craig decided he wanted to leave. Initially, Craig is optimistic with staying in the facility; however, over-time he starts to enjoy the area when he makes two friends, Bobby and Noelle. Through the help of these three characters (Dr. Eden, Bobby, and Noelle) Craig can learn to conquer his battle in a different approach. Craig in the movie starts picking up a raw passion with art, he learns that he is good with creating art, and that art soothes him. In the hospital the audience can see that “everyone” goes through ups and downs and goes through phases of depression. Amazingly the ending of the film depicts a reality because it shows that the battle of depression is ongoing and that once depression is treated it’s gone forever.
