“In Canada around 235,000 people become homeless per year”. (The State of Homelessness in Canada) Homelessness is a substantial issue in Canada because many people die per year from being homeless. The expected life span of a homeless person is 39. The government have several programs as well as other organizations, charities, support groups, and rehabilitation centres to help the homeless. Homeless people are at fault for their being homeless because there are plenty of opportunities for them to improve their life, they are not as ambitious to improve their situations, and they got themselves there from their lack of responsibility and self-control. They do not take action to help their situation.

There are plenty of homeless shelters and organizations that are available for people without homes. 4.9 million people live in poverty in Canada however only 235,000 people are becoming homeless per year. They have no one to blame but themselves for the situation they are in. Not all homeless people are drug and alcohol abusers however addiction is one of the primary causes of people becoming homeless. Other primary causes would be mental illness, child abuse, and war veterans. People with mental illness or parents who abuse them are not in control of their situation however there are actions they could have took to help themselves to not be in that situation. Such as if their parents were child abusers they could have told their teachers and children's aid is there to help kids in those situations.
