History of Computer Animation
To look at him, you would not think that Phil Tippett is the creator of some of the most horrific and terrifying monsters ever witnessed by the human race. A quite normal-looking man of average height, with thinning grey hair, he has been at the forefront of movie animation for almost three decades. Phil Tippett is one of the greatest animators of all time, starting off with the age-old techniques of stop-motion and then moving on to the technical computer generated wizardry of today. I chose to write about him because I greatly admire the work he had done in the industry and he has witnessed first hand the technological advances that have occurred during the course of his career. I am also interested in him because as well as being involved in the field of cgi special effects (a career which I also wish to pursue), he was also closely involved in the ground-breaking (for the time) special effects and animation in the Star Wars Trilogy, which happens to be another love of mine.
Born in 1951 in Illinois, Tippett has had a lifelong fascination with the art of animation. During his childhood he was fascinated by films such as King Kong and Jason and the Argonauts. He was fascinated by the surreal images in these movies and wanted to know how they were achieved. He went to his local library to research the subject and discovered the principles of stop motion. One of his favourite childhood hobbies was to make stop motion films with his father’s old movie camera. Tippett had been a lifelong devotee of stop motion as practiced by masters like Willis O’Brien in King Kong (1933) and Ray Harryhausen in The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) and Jason and the Argonauts (1963). Stop motion was, and still is an intricate, painstaking art in which animators pose and photograph miniature figures frame by frame. He wasn’t alone. “Just about every top animator or effects man today has favorite Harryhausen figurines, such as the part-rhino, part-centaur Cyclops, the serpent woman, and the two-headed Roc bird from Sinbad; or, from Jason, the harpies that are a cross between gargoyles and pterodactyls, and the seven-headed Hydra and its spawn” (ILM). In traditional stop motion (still practiced by Henry Selick in marvels like The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach), the camera records a series of subtly different poses rather than actual shifting, so the resulting flow of images is inherently surreal -- ultra-sharp and jerky.
George Washington was born at his father’s plantation on Pope’s Creek, in Westmoreland County, Virginia on February 22, 1732. Washington was the eldest of his parents Augustine and Mary Ball Washington’s six children. Little is known about Washington’s childhood and eduction. His father died when he was eleven. But most of the stories that make up his legend, such as his honesty, piety, throwing a silver dollar across the Potomac River, are not documented facts. After the death of his father, Washington helped his mother run the plantation. As a young man he focused on his informal, self-education, his early military contributions, and his career as a
Washington was born in Westmore County, Virginia, on February 22, 1732. He is the son of the late Augustine Washington and Mary Ball Washington. Augustine was a tobacco farmer and a stock raiser. Washington spent most of his early childhood on the Ferry Farm in Fredricksburg, Virginia. He attended school up until his fifteenth year. Washington married Martha Dandridge on January 6,1759.
George Washington wanted to join the navy, but his mother would not allow him. Instead, he joined with George William Fairfax as a surveyor to the unexplored wild of the Virginia frontier. George read many books to learn about geometry and the basic principles of surveying. At only seventeen years old, he became a formidable surveyor, with good income. He worked very hard, and purchased new lands.
In Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas a pivotal change in way animation is performed and viewed takes place. The film epitmozes the use of stop motion animation and created the standard of all stop motion from then and into the future. Nightmare Before Christmas is regarded as an iconic movie and is the basis of the stop motion, gothic animation, and the entire stylistic choices that are associated with Tim Burton.
Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia, the eldest son of Augustine Washington, a Virginia planter, and Mary Ball Washington. Although Washington had little or no formal schooling, his early notebooks indicate that he read in geography, military history, agriculture, deportment, and composition and that he showed some aptitude in surveying and simple mathematics. In later life he developed a style of speech and writing that, although not always polished, was marked by clarity and force. Tall, strong, and fond of action, he was a superb horseman and enjoyed the robust sports and social occasions of the Virginia planter society. At the age of 16 he was invited to join a party to survey lands owned by the Fairfax family (to which he was related by marriage) west of the Blue Ridge Mountains. His journey led him to take a lifelong interest in the development of western lands. In the summer of 1749 he was appointed official surveyor for Culpeper County, and during the next two years he made many surveys for landowners on the Virginia frontier. In 1753 he was appointed adjutant of one of the districts into which Virginia was divided, with the rank of major.

George Washington is best known as the "Father of our Country." He cared for this country much like a parent would care for a child. During his presidency, he solved many noteworthy problems. His achievements led to a democratic, wonderful country we like to call The United States of America. Although he’s not thought of as glamorous, George Washington is looked upon with the utmost respect and awe by all countries of the world. George Washington was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia on February 22, 1732. He was the oldest son of a Virginia farmer. Washington received most of his education at home. When he was 17 he was appointed surveyor of Culpeper County, Virginia. In 1752 Washington inherited Mount Vernon, in Fairfax County. The same year he was appointed adjutant of the southern district of Virginia, a full-time salaried appointment, carrying the rank of major. He wanted to eventually secure a commission in the regular British army. In 1753, Virginia was alarmed when a French expedition from Canada established posts on the headwaters of the Ohio River. Conflict over this area eventually erupted into the French and Indian War, in which Washington played a major military role that established his reputation as a commander. In the fall of 1758 the French were defeated. In 1759 he married Martha Dandridge Custis, a wealthy young widow. Washington matured into a solid member of Virginia society. From 1759 to 1774 he served in the House of Burgesses. By...
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Wakefield, Virginia. He was born to Augustine Washington, and Mary Ball and he had nine other siblings. Some of his favorite foods were cream of peanut soup, mashed sweet potatoes with coconut, and string beans with mushrooms. He also bred hound dogs which he treated as family. He’d give some of them rather strange names such as, Tarter, True Love, and Sweet Lips. He had an interest in arithmetic from an early age. He was mainly schooled by his father. At the age of 15 he stopped his schooling because his mother couldn’t afford to send him to college. George's father died when he was only eleven and his eldest brother, Lawrence, took over the care of the family. Not long after the death of his father, his brother Lawrence became sick with tuberculosis and soon died from it leaving George as the head of the household. At six feet, two inches tall, and 200 pounds, he was one of our biggest presidents.(Facts about George Washington)
Washington married Martha Custis, and expanded upon his home of Mount Vernon. After being reward territory for his involvement in the French and Indian war, George Washington received 23,000 acres of land. His owned land around Mount Vernon expanded to 6,500 acres and the amount of slaves he owned grew to 100. Being a respected military hero and known landowner, he was elected to the House of Burgesses of Virginia. He also held local office and was very influential throughout Virginia.
I would like to discuss in this paper about -crowd financing, Things to know when someone wants to start crowd financing, Kickstart for funding, Risks involved in crowd financing.
To the disappointment of many the dinosaurs turned out to be just the work of some skilled artists and some computers, but to others, it was a new era of filmmaking. Some people criticise Hollywood films for their reliance on CGI but when pulled off well, audiences can truly be transported into the world of the film, and sometimes that world is
Crowdfunding is a new sector and is still developing. It is an exciting opportunity for many of the new, small and medium scale industries whose proposals are rejected by the banks. It may be confusing to most of the users as it is presented in many ways. We have there aspects in Crowdfunding investments or donations, platform, project creators. Crowdfunding works as first the idea or the proposal of the person is uploaded into the platform in which all the donators are registered. The donators view the proposal of the person and then decide to invest o...
Computer Graphics is the bond between humans and computers. Computer graphics is a large field that branches into almost all fields of computer science; however its roots are young. Computer graphics has massively grown over the past 40 years and is now our primary means of communication with computer applications. Do to technological limitations in the 1950s, computer graphics began as a small, specialized field. The Whirlwind project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is marked as the origin of computer graphics (Machover 14).
In 500 B.C. the abacus was first used by the Babylonians as an aid to simple arithmetic. In 1623 Wihelm Schickard (1592 - 1635) invented a "Calculating Clock". This mechanical machine could add and subtract up to 6 digit numbers, and warned of an overflow by ringing a bell. J. H. Mueller comes up with the idea of the "difference engine", in 1786. This calculator could tabulate values of a polynomial. Muellers attempt to raise funds fails and the project was forgotten. Scheutz and his son Edward produced a 3rd order difference engine with a printer in 1843 and their government agreed to fund their next project.
Thousands of years ago calculations were done using people’s fingers and pebbles that were found just lying around. Technology has transformed so much that today the most complicated computations are done within seconds. Human dependency on computers is increasing everyday. Just think how hard it would be to live a week without a computer. We owe the advancements of computers and other such electronic devices to the intelligence of men of the past.
