Hewlett-Packard is one of the most innovating companies in today's modern world. They specialize in building and producing computer software, hardware, and networking devices, but their main manufactures in their production lines are personal computers and a vast amount of printers. In addition to manufacturing computer technology, they're also involved in various military contracts that help the United States in their defense systems and infrastructure. As a result, how are these contracts helping our country's military progression and why have we developed a partnership with this private company to build numerous long-term contracts? In this paper, I plan to inform you on the company of Hewlett-Packard and how their help to the military has progressed the United States and their war efforts in fighting around the globe. Dave Packard and Bill Hewlett were attending Stanford University near Palo Alto, California in the early to late 1930s and both majored in electrical engineering. After they both graduated, they decided to put their minds together and manufacture electronics. Their first product that was developed was the “resistance-capacitance audio oscillator” in 1938, which was used to check sound equipment for Walt Disney Studios. Once their first product hit the market, they decided to start the company Hewlett-Packard or HP in Dave Packard's garage with an introductory capital investment of $538 United States dollars. But before the company was called “Hewlett-Packard”, both Dave and Bill tossed coinage into the air to decide who got their name first in the organization. Dave Packard won, but decided for the name to be the “Hewlett-Packard Company” anyways. Hewlett-Packard opened their company to the world on November ... ... middle of paper ... ...e days later Hewlett-Packard was awarded the largest federal IT government project of all time. This is a $3.5 billion contract working for the U.S. Navy on their communication systems. HP is in charge of the Navy’s communication systems until 2019, which includes over 800,000 intranet users. Due to HP’s success at doing what they’re supposed to do in their government contracts, they were given another contract in 2013 over several big companies. The contract is for three years and $56 million. HP’s task is to implement applications management services to provide complete security authority for military personnel, and Department of Defense employees and contractors. The last contract I found was one awarded to HP for around $548 million from the Department of Defense’s DMDC. Hewlett-Packard is to provide support services that are reliable and commercially available.
The Wallace Group is seeking to secure future contracts with the Navy and Air Force via the Electronics group. This potential workload is vital to the success of the Electronics group as the future contracts would be profitable for the group.
CompTech is a large computer products retailer and the company is looking to expand the company. However, the company is having significant problems in the hiring process for store managers as well as a problem retaining store managers working for the company. In the description given, it appears that the only specifications for the store manager position is the candidate must have a MBA degree or at least three years’ experience as a store manager. Normally, a job listing has multiple specifications listed in the job description to ensure that only the most qualified apply for the job. “Preparing job descriptions can help an organization clarify what it really wants to accomplish while at the same time letting the potential employee understand
WorldCom, US second largest telecommunication company in the United States behind AT&T, was founded in 1983. The company starts their business under the name “Long Distance Discount Services” (LDDS), providing long distance telecommunication services. The company was profitable from the start. In 1985, Bernie Ebbers became the company’s CEO. The company changes its name to WorldCom in 1995. During the 1990’s, the company starts to grow through series of successful acquisition and merger. However, during the late 1999, the company’s performance begins to decline due to heightened competition and reduced demand for telecommunication services.
To evaluate HP’s legacy in today’s technology driven environment, we have to first understand the legacy of Hewlett Packard left by its founders, William Hewlett and David Packard.
In 1976 the Apple Computer came to be a company. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak worked exceedingly hard on their new ideas to become reality. These two intellectual men dropped out of college, and were often judged for doing so. What a big risk they took to leave their education in hopes of an idea which may or may not be a big hit. Apple officially started in their basement, rather than at a professional business store. When these tw...
Lockheed Martin is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland principally engaged in global security and aerospace sustainment technology systems. This company is a large proponent of my work, and one of the largest military contractors. As a manufacturer of aircraft and components, and one of the two main competitors for the government’s business, Lockheed Martin engineers some of the major lines of defense that I see and work with every day. My job revolves around whether these defensive tools will perform as advertised in order to help us complete our mission. Innovation drives this company to be a financial giant not only in this decade, but for over a century. The history of the company is quite extensive, beginning as a small, few man show
Speaking about the business model of Dell, it has ability to remain on the higher end of the scale for a particular time period. Dell has business model, which primarily focuses on direct selling line of attack. It in a straight line supplies the PCs to the regulars. It does not believe in intermediary, retailers for the business practices. Undeniably, this gives them an edge to serve customer well. Nevertheless, it understood the importance of retailers and start offering products on the premises of retailers, such as Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club and so on. Next, Dell administration is certain of the exclusive business of PCs. As time goes on, however, observing the
The IBM 5150, IBM’s first personal computer was introduced in a marketing campaign that led to more than 25 million Americans owning computer by 1987 (Smith and Alexander 15). IBM focused on educating consumers on how personal computers could be used to transform lives. The introduction of various applications including word processing, spreadsheet and database management facilitated information management and this led to the acceptance of personal computers as a useful tool. IBM’s association with the personal computer grew and the company was able to combine that success with the marketing of their hardware and software. The marketing strategy used by IBM set the tone for Apple’s emergence in the commercial
My report is on the company Hewlett – Packard (HP) which was founded in 1939. I mainly focused on the Personal Systems Group (PSG): business and consumers PCs mobile computing devices and workstations which is one of the major industries of HP. In order to succeed in the business industry a company needs to understand its customer’s needs and create wants for them. HP found out that the customer needed light weight, useful notebook PCs through its Research & Development (R&D) centre. Hence, it created a want; a New Commercial Notebook PC Compaq Evo Notebook N1015v which packs the power and performance necessary for mobility into a stylish design for only $899(US $). HP also finds out about its customer needs through online feedback forms and survey. Via that, HP was also able to understand that not everyone are able to use their products hence it has created this HP accessibility products which can be accessed by anyone including people with disabilities and age – limitations. Example of such product under the PSG industry is the Mobile Speak Pocket which was specially made for the visually impaired people. ( Refer To Exhibit 1a – 1c )
In its approach, DELL strongly focused on the needs of each particular customer with a special focus government institutions (witch accounted for more than 77%) and large companies.
New technologies have integrated many operational sectors of armed forces which need now a personal with high level of qualification. Naomi Verdugo and Nehama E. Babin write in “The Impact of Advanced Technology on the U.S. Military”, that it is mandatory to adapt the skills of manpower to the requirements of new technologies. This requires special skills and deep knowledge to ensure the perfect running of different systems. Computers and networks, for instance, remain advanced technology which integrates the majority of telecommunication and combat systems .These tools have even changed the profile of the systems’ users from soldiers to operators. The need for qualified staff will also be important in the field of maintenance due to its decisive role to ensure the reliability of electronic and network systems especially in wartime. So, it appears clear that this metamorphosis not only involves real changes in quantity and quality of manpower, but also non- negligible repercussions on the quality of
