The musical score, unique setting, as well as the visual impact of the cinematography permit the creators of Wall-E to convey a feeling of nostalgia in a futuristic time period allowing the audience to sympathize with an otherwise un-relatable situation. The musical score of Wall-E had an incredibly important part in its ability to manipulate the audience’s empathy for a rusting metal robot and his blooming relationship with a new age robot evolving into something more. The introduction includes “Put On Your Sunday Clothes” from the 1969 musical Hello, Dolly! with moving images of planets which finally move in on an outer space shot of a dead planet that reminds us of Earth. This sort of image is saddening yes, but the sounds of a recognized …show more content…
The immense amount of detail in the setting gives us the ability to identify familiar elements in the story. For example, in the beginning sequence, we see an image of what seems to be like a neglected earth. When it zooms into what looks like a city, our mind registers the tall structures as metropolitan buildings, but as the shot goes on, we notice that not every structure is a building, but a pile of compressed garbage stacked sky high. This shot takes the viewer through a small progression of feelings; recognizing earth, acknowledging the city buildings, then going through a stunning realization that the planet they call home is destroyed. The manipulation of what the audience sees in the given setting allowed the filmmaker to also manipulate what the audience feels every time the shot changes. Shifting over to the space ship humans have migrated to, we notice similarities between their world and ours. What strikes us the most is the parallels such as swimming pools and the advertisements all throughout the “streets” in the space ship. While yes, these are similarities between our worlds, what allows the audience to see differences is how the characters interact with these settings. For example, the swimming pool is a complete surprise to one of the characters, although she’s lived there her whole life. While the advertisements we can recognize, the mindless consumerism put the audience in a state
In the very first scene the audience views there is a man shaving and has radio blaring in the background. An alarm clock goes off in a different apartment and the viewer is trying to find out where the noise is coming from which makes them engaged in the film. The setting creates depth because the audience only sees what Jefferies is viewing. At the dinner party, the music playing in the background set a tone to audience making them feel what he is missing out on. There is an alleyway shown from the window and it very crowded. The alleyway represents Jefferies being isolated
In effect all the techniques mentioned above portray a society of individuals who are weary of the world they live in. They are rejects who lead a pitiful existence in a wasteland called earth because they are not fit enough to go the out-world colonies. Suppressing their own natural instincts for the sake of physically surviving they really the walking dead. Scientific progress conducted not for the best interests of humanity but for the best interests of business has effectively brought about the progressive degradation of society. By exploiting and destroying the natural world human can no more find solace or beauty so as to recuperate their weary minds and rekindle their dying spirits. In summary the techniques that are unique to film such as camera, lighting, costuming, colour and location works in conjunction with common literary techniques such as visual symbolism, irony and characterisation to effectively convey the relationship between humanity and nature.
It starts in the jungle with a camera following Indiana Jones and two Spanish trackers through the trees. You can hear the diegtic sounds of the birds, which gives a realistic effect. The director uses wide screen to make you feel claustropbic, it also makes it feel threatening. It makes us concentrate on the men walking through the jungle It includes the viewers by making them feel they are actually there with Indiana. Indiana Jones finds a poisoned arrow in a tree
In the film, symbolism was everywhere. In the beginning of the film, the pictures of the city were in black and white and dull shades, giving the city a gloomy look. The camera angles made the cars in the city appear tiny, and the buildings appear very large to symbolize how small everything was amongst the city. The interiors of the office buildings and the panic symbolized that there was no way out. The soundtrack of the film was symbolic to the tension of the film. The darkness of visual composition of the lighting in the film, symbolized the darkness of the human nature in the story.
Like a painting by Dali, you feel that every new thing you uncover has another waiting below it. The camera angles and lighting are tied into the film to turn the whole story into a smooth flowing work that is more pleasing to watch in black and white than most movies are in color. The overacting makes a few scenes in the movie difficult to watch, but the rest of the film picks up the slack.
...the reflective camera work and the metaphorical visuals. In the film, it is likewise the language of the camera that creates the spectacle.
When I watching this movie, I notice that I felt less separation from the movie. Initially I could not find a reason for that but, soon after I realize that the camera is not static but it wobbling slightly. In most movie, camera does not move and it creates the frame. In the other hand, this movie’s handheld camera type of camera works imitate the human eyesight feeling and make people feels like to experience the event in a movie as a one of the character. In this perspective, do not explain too much about the detail is emphasizing this experience. Consider these things, I really excited and enjoyed couple of scene which are the running through battle field and engaging to the baby. In the every day world, both scene is pretty rare to experience. For the battle field scene, majority of the people have avoiding to be in there so that is rare. The engaging to the baby experience is quite normal event for most people and of course it is grate experience but, in this movie setting, baby is extremely rare and seeing baby is truly miracle event. To emphasize and provide this miracle event, this camera work is perfect to apply.
The use of POV (point of view) shots, such as the view from the plane as it turns over, increases the audience’s involvement in the action and their empathy for the characters, and the use of low angles when the Mummy appears gives the impression of great power. The most obvious example of computer generated images (CGI) is that of the sandstorm itself and the devastation it creates. This is the main focus of this extract, and while the large amount of screen time devoted to it does not further the plot particularly, this is not its purpose – instead, it amazes the audience. Another slightly less spectacul... ... middle of paper ... ... and the feeling that the heroes are out of place.
Right from the opening shot, the film establishes the themes of the illusion of time, and movement. Chris Marker uses the still photograph of an airport, and uses image transition techniques to have it appear alive, and moving in
...successful collaboration of sound, colour, camera positioning and lighting are instrumental in portraying these themes. The techniques used heighten the suspense, drama and mood of each scene and enhance the film in order to convey to the spectator the intended messages.
In the opening scene of the movie we see Frank’s character played by Denzel Washington. Right away we are shocked by his violence and see his power. This is the first motif we are introduced to. We see Frank stand tall over his victim, and the dark shadowing we see on his face and body show his dominance. Another motif we are introduced to is how real this film is setup to be. The car headlights that setup the background and introduce where we the setting is as well as motivate lights. They have a purpose in the film in promoting its authenticity. We also hear the all the sounds in the forefront. When hear the sounds up close it dramatic for us as viewers. We hear every 7drop of gasoline that is poured on the man’s body and we even hear the flick of the lighter as Frank sets the man on fire. This is the director Scott Ridley’s way of saying to the audience I want to fool you, and I want you to feel like you were there and what you are watching in front of you is real.
The cinematography of this films has a clear continuity style often found in many of the directors films, the movie features many long takes. Also shot entirely on mobile frame cameras, with movement throughout to give the viewer the appearance of being there themselves. Much like when a person plays a video game and sees the world their playing through the animations eyes. The color scheme also is a huge aspect of the cinematography in this film with washed out coloring displayed in the scenery and even in actors costumes, all in dark colors like blue, black, grey,
What do you think about when watching a film? Do you focus on the characters' good looks or the dialogue? Or do you go behind the scenes and think about what made the film? Maybe, it's even a combination of all three. No matter what comes to mind first, an important part of any good movie will be what you see. A camera and good director or cinematographer is needed to make that possible. Different directors and cinematographers will use different camera techniques to make you focus on what you see. Camera techniques show emphasis in films, because they make you focus more on situations and people. They are especially important in Darren Aronofsky’s Requiem for a Dream.
The images and music with the absence of dialogue make the themes come across more powerfully because they leave room for the audiences’ imaginations to interpret the scene on their own and begin to ask questions, which makes them want to continue watching the movie.
Every second growing closer and closer to the destruction captivates your attention showing you what minor details created a ripple effect and sinking the ship. From the heart warming goodbyes when they set sail to the icy agonizing waters at the end. The movie really went into detail about the disaster and wanted people to know that it really happened and how devastating it is.
