On a Sunday night in her home in Thousand Oaks, California actress Heather Locklear is arrested for domestic abuse against her boyfriend whose name was not mentioned by police. “The victim of the alleged domestic violence was a boyfriend who had a physical injury, which makes the offense a felony…” In Heather’s past she has been arrested for past instances of substance abuse and another domestic abuse case with a previous partner going by the name of Jack Wagner. This reveals a history of aggressive crimes and what could be considered the root of it all although it was not clarified whether alcohol was involved in either case. This current act of domestic abuse against her current partner is a clear example of reactive aggression.
As mentioned earlier Heather Locklear’s act of domestic abuse is an example of reactive aggression. Reactive aggression is “aggressive behavior where the means and the

end coincide; harm is inflicted for its own sake” (Kasssin, Fein, & Markus, 2017). Another example of reactive aggression is when a man at a stadium or other sporting event may throw an object such as a bottle at your friend or partner and you get angry and punch them. This is reactive aggression as the act of you punching the person was “in the heat of the moment” and was done by impulse without any concern for the consequences for your action. The same applies to some domestic abuse cases where things get out of hand very quickly and physical confrontations can occur as it did in the case of Heather Locklear. To summarize the article Heather Locklear and her boyfriend were having an argument in their California home.
Heather’s brother walked in and called the police after he witnessed his sister and her boyfriend fighting. When police came they labeled this as a case of domestic abuse due to the fact that in the alleged police report and in the article it stated that “We're told cops observed that the boyfriend had a visible mark…” thus indicating that there was physical contact during the argument which was most likely done by Heather while she was in a fit of rage in the heat of the moment. As police where discussing the incident it was said that Heather began to act aggressive towards authorities and was now being charged with battery for attacking 3 officers on top of the domestic abuse. Police checked her history to find her previous incidents involving the confrontation she had with her ex Jack Wagner and her DUI’s and substance abuse charges. Nothing else was said about the situation but that she was released on $20k bail and had a court hearing last month on March
13th. This incident involving Heather Locklear and her boyfriend is a clear example of reactive aggression. She attacked her boyfriend while they argued which satisfies the heat of the moment and impulse definition of reactive aggression. While most people do not intentionally hurt their partners or loved ones physically they might do it if they are angered and not thinking straight. One can safely assume that this was a quarrel that got out of hand and now Heather is paying the price for it. As stated before she has a history of hitting her partners as the domestic abuse case in 2011 with her former partner Jack Wagner where that is another case of reactive aggression because they were in a similar situation in the sense that they were arguing, and Heather was in a fit of rage which resulted in her attacking Wagner. In conclusion the incident involving Heather and her partner is a prime example of reactive aggression in which someone acted by impulse of anger and without any concern to the consequences of their actions. Reactive aggression is very common on our world today because it ranges from anything to domestic abuse to an argument gone wrong between friends and it certainly will not be the last instance where the public hears about a domestic abuse or even a bar fight with involving celebrities or other important figures.

Beaten wives are not such ideal victims because males want power and dominance (Christie (1986). The development has taken place ‘because we have improved morally, not because we are becoming more kind but we are now so affluent that party’s can leave- divorce (Christie (1986). Battered women constitute one of the most marginalized groupings in the social order. Their relationship incidents occasionally put these individuals into disagreement with the law, particularly when they murder their violent partners. The Battered woman syndrome (BWS) was created by clinical psychologist (1970’s) with an intention of depicting the series of occurrences that physically abused women frequently experience in their relationships.
Domestic violence is the pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner (ASCA.org). Examples of this are when the father chased the mother down with the car and threatened to run her over (the Glass Castle page 42-44) and when the mother and father would fight and call each other names they were inflicting domestic violence against each other. There was also the time that the father and Grandma Smith got into an argument and calling each other terrible names.
In 1992, a group of Norwegian researchers conducted a study of girls. “They found girls participate in aggression, but they express their anger in unconventional nonphysical ways” (Simmons 20). Another group of experts from the University of Minnesota continued with these findings and found the girl’s aggressive behavior should be classified into three subcategories; relational, indirect, and social aggression” (Simmons 21). An example of relational aggression would be ignoring someone or giving them the “silent treatment” which can be very traumatic for the victim. They wonder what they...
Lew told me that her and suspect Kelsey have been in dating relationship for the past 4 years. Lew told me today (09/16/17) at approximately 0700 hours, her and Kelsey were inside of Kelsey’s apartment located at 235 E. Holly St. #332. Lew was sitting on the bed and Kelsey was sitting on the sofa. Lew began to cry and told me they were in a verbal argument over money and moving in together. Lew attempted to leave the apartment, when Kelsey punched her approximately 3-5 times with his left fist, making contact with the top left portion of her head. Lew told me she was able to get away from Kelsey, went to the first floor lobby of the apartment complex, and dialed 911. I asked Lew if she required any medical attention and she said, “No.” I did not see visible injuries to Lew, but she said she could feel bumps on her head caused by the assault. Lew complained of pain to the top left portion of her
Upon my arrival, I spoke with Natalie Stovall who stated that her and her boyfriend had gotten into an altercation but he left the residence prior to our arrival. Natalie stated that she did not wish to pursue any charges regarding the assault. I then had dispatch run Natalie’s driver licenses to make certain she was clear from any warrants. Dispatch advised that Natalie had two warrants out of Dallas County.

“Domestic violence is an emotional, physical, psychological, or sexual abuse perpetrated against a person by a person's spouse, former spouse, partner, former partner or by the other parent of a minor child” (McCue 2). While it is these things, the violence is also considered a pattern of demeanor used to establish power and control over another person with whom an intimate relationship is or has been shared through fear and intimidation (“Domestic Violence Sourcebook” 9). It has many names, including spouse abuse, domestic abuse, domestic assault, battering, partner abuse, marital strife, marital dispute, wife-beating, marital discord, woman abuse, dysfunctional relationship, intimate fighting, mate beating, and so on (2). Donna Shalala, Secretary of Health and Human Accommodations, believes that domestic violence is “terrorism in the home” (2). This type of abuse involves threats, harm, injury, harassment, control, terrorism, or damage to living beings/property (2). It isn't only in relationships with spouses, it also occurs within family, elderly, and children (9).
The movie Heathers is plagued with bullies, violence, and aggression. Rarely does a scene go by where a character does not engage in an aggressive manner. Our textbook tells us, however, that aggression is not always expressed the same but rather each aggressive action can be classified by one of three forms—physical, verbal, or relational. The movie Heathers not only encompasses all three forms but shows multiple examples of each.
Domestic violence, is significantly the number one cause of violence in America and according to Sherman, L. W., past decades, that reluctance has overcome, with a 70% increase in arrests for minor assaults, heavily concentrated among low-income and minority groups. “Violence defined by the world health organization (WHO) is an intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself,
Home is Where the Heart Stops Domestic violence is characterized as certain behaviors that occur in a relationship when one person uses control over the other. In the 2003 novel Purple Hibiscus, Chimamanda Agozi Adichie deals with this matter while documenting the struggles of a particular Nigerian family during a time of economic and political instability. Adichie was one of the very few African writers to question the morals and traditions of earlier generations. The story follows the lives of the Achike family, where everything is far from perfect behind closed doors. They constantly have to portray an image of being “one big happy family” in society, although they live in an authoritative household where they have become victims of domestic violence.
We are all affected by crime, whether we are a direct victim, a family member or a friend of a victim. It can interfere with your daily life, your personal sense of safety and your ability to trust others.
“One woman is beaten by her husband or partner every 15 seconds in the United States” (Stewart & Croudep, 1998-2012). Domestic violence can interfere with the husband-wife relationship because one spouse is always in constant fear of the other. This violence could vary from physical abuse to ps...
