Strategic management is the systematic analysis of activities, both internal and external environment activities that would promote the objectives of management policies. Equally, strategic management in Health Care is the ability to develop effective strategies that would provide changes due to implications of external changes that is inevitable in health care industry. Regulation issues includes continues consolidation among health care organizations which require radical changes and Affordable Health Care Act of 2010. All these external challenges cannot be effectively curtail without 3 activities involve in strategic management decision.
The first activity is Strategic thinking, manager in a competitive sector like health care must be a good thinker and use good systematic concepts to better understand the business environment relationship with the sector. Secondly, strategic management involves strategic planning, that is step-by-step process for creating strategic brainstorming and decision making activities. Thirdly, strategic momentum, where the health sector management manage day to day activities, and evaluates strategy, providing style and culture to achieve the business objectives. (Linda E. Strategic plans must be filtered down to lower levels to be success. Strategic plans can go astray, but a formal control system helps keep strategic plans on track. In the strategic management process general managers who adopt a strategic management perspective appreciate that strategic plans require updating and fine-tuning as conditions change. Given today's competitive pressures, management cannot afford to let strategic plans sit as is. A strategic orientation encourages farsightedness. Sun Microsystems Inc. is one company that developed a strategy to become the competitive leader and become the most reliable in the net business. I will explain how Sun's strategy integrates their marketing, management, technology, and service functions into one effective strategy.
