Health Professional: From my young age, I had a passion of working in a medical field. I did not know what I exactly wanted to do, but I was always fascinated by how the doctors, nurses and medical professional dressed, and by how they treated and care the patients. My financial capabilities when I lived in the refugee camp outweighed my desire to work in medical settings, however, moving to the United States, fulfilled my dream. Additionally, getting an opportunity to further my education is also a reason why these identity bubble matters to me the most.
Should someone ignore one of my multicultural bubbles, I would feel very upset and disrespected as a result of which, I would start ignoring that person and his beliefs and values, as well.

Because of the growing diversity due to the influx of immigrants and refugees in the United States, there is an increase in varying cultures present at a workplace and thus an increased need to learn each other’s culture. Aspects like holidays and color can have a huge impact on people of different cultures. For example, in most of the Asian cultures, the color white symbolizes death and mourning whereas it symbolizes winter, snow, images of purity and innocence, and brides in the wedding dress in the western countries. The majority of the Eastern countries have different holidays and they even celebrate those on different days than in the western countries. If these differences are not taken into considerations, it causes miscommunication, frustration, and failure of expected organizational outcomes and the same rule applies in a health care environment as well. Being culturally aware and knowledgeable is a must when working in any type of healthcare field. In our society today, we have an array of different cultures and making patients feel comfortable and at easy is our primary goal. Diversity training is something that is a must for each healthcare professional and should be the basis of our healthcare education.
When confidential patient information is disclosed without consent it is a violation of the HIPAA Title II Security Rule. This rule was enacted in response to private information being leaked to the news and emails containing privileged information were read by unauthorized people. Identity theft is a real concern so patient privacy should be taken seriously. This is a rule can easily be broken without the offender feeling any malice towards the victim for example gossip and curiosity. Gossip in a medical office can have devastating effects on a health care facility’s reputation. Employees engaging in idle chatter to pass the time can inadvertently be overheard by patients or family members. Simply not using the patient’s name may not be enough if the person overhearing the conversation sees the resemblance. Professional behavior should be exercised at all times and juvenile behavior such as spreading gossip, has no place in a business that relies on its credibility. This rule will impact the way patient medical records are handled because we know the seriousness of it. Hospitals that don’t enforce HIPAA rules will have negative repercussions. The patient can have irreversible damage done to their view on the medical field and that hospital if their information is not treated with care. They may even feel so violated that they bring litigation against the hospital.
Professional identity is the result of a developmental process that facilitates individuals to reach an understanding of their profession in conjunction with their own self-concept, enabling them to articulate their role, philosophy, and approach to others within and outside of their chosen. As counselors engage in this individually unique growth process, it is hoped that the counseling profession as a whole will be strengthened as its practitioners and educators reach a heightened sense of purpose and a synergistic collective identity, an identity which is still developing within the profession. The term collective identity refers to having shared goals, resources, and aspirations for the profession. In order for individuals to build a personal relationship with their chosen occupation, it is important for a clear foundation to be established. To build this foundation, a professional philosophy must be constructed which clarifies and distinguishes one’s profession from other similar vocations; in this instance, other mental health fields. In counseling, this foundation is thought to be created by establishing clear professional expectations through licensure, streamlined educational programming, professional organizations, and ethical standards that build on an underlying professional philosophy. This article will review current literature and research on professional identity in the counseling field. This review will then be presented in relation to the external evaluation of success within counseling and counselor education and how this evaluation is influenced and internally understood through one’s gender role beliefs and associated societal expectations.

Due to these cultural differences and lack of knowledge, disparities are increasing.
