Nutrition and Health Nutrition is essential for our daily lives because it provides us the energy we need to survive and prevents poor diets (malnutrition) if adequate diets are consumed. Our bodies run automatically throughout the day and must be filled with quality fuel (nutrition) as much as possible. Providing ourselves with the proper nutrition would benefits us not only to live healthier, but lead us to longer lives, protects the brain cells and help from developing Alzheimer’s disease. Most would think that a well balance diet means starving oneself with very little nutrients, but instead means simply implementing a certain amount of lean protein, carbs and fats into our diet. For instance, a healthy diet gives the body the nutrients it needs to perform and recover physically. Nourishing ourselves with the right nutrient helps to engage in every aspect of our lives including: physical, emotional, social, spiritual and mental. Nevertheless,” good health is not automatic; it is partly a gift and partly a choice” (Anspauge, Hamrik and Rosato, 2011, p. 3). Mentally, our mind functions well when consuming enough nutrients. It has the ability to control our moods and attitude toward our daily lives. First one has to develop an eating pattern which is a “habitual way of eating” (Sizer & Whitney, 2017, p. 11). Adequacy-is when providing enough of that nutrient that frequently leaves the body and need other to be replaces with other nutrients such as iron. If too little iron is taken one may feel weak or consistently feeling sad or suffering from headache: this could result in iron deficiency. Balance-is when one can balance what they eat, but not too much of every one of the essential nutrients. For instance, eating too much cereal can lead to overload in fiber. Calories control- should remain at the calorie needs intakes. If too little, one might feel weak. Remaining at the right calories control will give the body enough energy to function well at activities. Moderation- intakes of food that is too high in saturated fat, salt or sugar should be eaten less often. Intake of lays potato chips on a daily basic could lead to high blood pressure as it is high in salt (sodium); this should be eaten once or twice a week. Variety- do not eat the same foods all the time. For this reason, according to Sizer & Whitney, 2017, monotonous diet may deliver a large amount of toxin or contaminants (p.12).
