A career in healthcare has always been something I’ve been fascinated with and aspired to. Nevertheless there has always been a cloud of uncertainty as to whether I would truly feel passionate about this career path and if I’m going into it for all the right reasons. Evidently this decision to pursue a challenging, diverse and ever-changing path has not been an over night epiphany, rather a decision that has taken me months to conclude. My love and interest in the world of science and the intricacy of how your organs, tissues and organs all work together to enable the body to survive and move has no doubt been an important factor for wanting a healthcare profession. The medical field is so vast and there are always new discoveries to be had, which is an extremely exciting prospect as it offers a constant opportunity to grow and learn. Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a talk by Jim Al-khalili, theoretical physicist, who talked about the idea of ‘quantum biology’ and raised the question of whether quantum- tunnelling was possible (in context of …show more content…
This has enabled me to have a much more “hands on” experience and has allowed me to gain an insight into what a career in healthcare would partly entail. It has also given me the opportunity to observe and appreciate the multi-disciplinary team to make the NHS as successful as it is today. Every member of the team plays a crucial role and if the team were to be shy of any one member it would disable the NHS from working to its full potential. This experience has given me a much more realistic insight into demanding, exhausting and gratifying every day life of a healthcare professional. While it may not be all the glamour you see on television, this voluntary experience has further solidified my aspiration of a career in health
D1: I have decided to look at a 6 year old going through bereavement. Bereavement means to lose an individual very close to you. When children go through bereavement they are most likely to feel sad and upset about the person’s death. Children at a young age may not understand when a family member dies. Children may not understand bereavement. For example a 6 year old’s father been in a car crash and has died from that incident. Death is unpredictable and children can’t be prepared for a death of a family member as no one knows when someone is going to die or not. Unfortunately every child can experience bereavement even when a pet dies. It is important that we are aware that effects on the child so we can support them in the aftermath.
Born and raised by parents working in the medical field, I have always had the urge to follow up on on a health related career. Despite never being pressured into choosing scientific subjects as my academic studies, I deeply admired what a long way science has come and longed to give my contribution to this fascinating world. I am presently studying for my A-levels at St.Aloysius Sixth form in Malta, a college for high achievers.
The standards for entrance into the National Honor Society are scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Through this paper I will strive to prove that I possess all of these qualities, and moreover, that I am qualified for entrance into an organization as prestigious as the National Honor Society. Over the past four years as a scholar, I believe that I have demonstrated all of these characteristics. That I have the scholarly ability required to be a NHS member is indicated simply by the fact that I was nominated for entrance into the NHS in the first place, though since I get the impression that more than this is required, I will point out that I have consistently made the honor roll every quarter during my years in both High- and Middle-school. Also, my involvement in the school's "Jets TEAMS" (Test of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science) team during my Junior year functions as an indicator of my scholarship. Jets TEAMS is an intense, annual competition in which schools send 8 of their strongest students to compete against other schools in a nationwide contest. During my Junior year I was fortunate enough to be selected as one of the eight students (only 3 of whom were Juniors) who would go to the competition, and through our team's efforts, we were able to come in first in the state of Connecticut, earning recognition not just for ourselves, but for the town of Granby as well. Through my involvement in Jets TEAMS and my solid academic record, I feel that I have demonstrated the scholarship required for entrance into the National Honor Society. It is difficult to narrow things down to a single situation in which I have demonstrated leadership qualities to the extent that is required for entrance into the NHS, but for the purposes of this paper (and the sake of brevity), I will focus on my past involvement in the "People to People: Student Ambassador Program." People to People is a nationally recognized organization which sends groups of American students to foreign countries where they can learn about another culture by experiencing it firsthand. Their itinerary also stresses the development of leadership skills and the importance of teamwork. Through my involvement in this program, aside from learning a lot about a foreign culture (I traveled to Australia for 3 weeks), I also learned a great deal about the responsibilities and obligations that go along with being a leader.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) is a federal government agency tasked with protecting health and providing basic human services. This department separated from the Department of Education in 1979. Below introduces this important department and explains how their services help Americans every day.
I had known for years that I wanted to work in the health care field, but I always believed it would be as a doctor. I watched for the first few years of my brother’s life as he struggled with different health challenges such as being born premature, having croup and breathing difficulty, and speech impairment. Watching my brother struggle and then being able to overcome these difficulties, as well as seeing other children around him who were not as fortunate, really pushed me even at a young age to make a difference. My family, both immediate and extended, were very supportive, and I felt a real positive push towards working hard to achieve that goal of working in health care. In high school, I was fortunate enough to do a cooperative placement at the Peterborough Regional Health Center’s Intensive Care Unit. Through observing rounds and being in the medical setting, I truly knew this is where I wanted to
I began my college career unsure of the path ahead of me. I knew I had a passion for medicine, however, I did not know which direction I would take. With the expansive amount of options offered within the fields of science and medicine, it was difficult to narrow down exactly what direction I wanted to take. I gained some clarity the summer of my sophomore year when I stayed at a close friend’s home, whose father, a practicing Medical Physician, became somewhat of a mentor to me. The passionate way in which he discussed the practice of medicine led me to develop an interest in pursuing a career as a physician. He explained that a career in the medical field was about responsibility, the responsibility to work with all members of the healthcare team for the well-being of the patient as well as their family
There have been three constants that have sparked a passion in my life; caring for others, education and my love for the Hispanic community. These three passions have been a driving force in leading me to where I am today, both in my career and my personal life. I am confident that these constants will continue to be my motivating propelling me to reach the pinnacle in the nursing field, obtaining and practicing as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
“Life is a balanced system of learning, adjusting, and evolving. Whether pleasure or pain; every situation in your life serves a purpose. It is up to us to recognize what that purpose could be.” - Dr. Steve Maraboli
I found some of Jim Al-Khalili's points to be convincing, while other points are not justified. The speaker states three main arguments. The first is the idea that quantum tunneling assists in chemical reactions in the body. Jim Al-Khalili argues that "a proton (in an enzyme) can disappear from one place, and reappear on the other[10:00]", showing its quantum abilities. However, there are plenty of more testable macro explanations for the phenomena.
I was wonderfully amazed at the complexity and inner workings of the body. Diving into my physiology studies, I knew that a medical career was for me. I envisioned interacting with the patients like those who came to the pharmacy but in a more personal and in-depth manner. I was also intrigued how we would apply the physiology to real-world examples, applying insights and critical thinking of an engineer to solve problems that physicians face.
I started to explore the different fields of medicine by working as a Medical Scribe in the Emergency Department, ER tech in Trauma Centers, getting involved in research, volunteering at hospitals and taking high level science classes. This will enhance my knowledge and experience i...
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”-Benjamin Franklin How does the human body work? How does a multicellular system made up of many cells and tissues work so efficiently? How does a wound repair itself? These questions have triggered my interest in biological science and motivated me to be a part of the health sciences’ field.
Health care has always been an interesting topic all over the world. Voltaire once said, “The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease.” It may seem like health care that nothing gets accomplished in different health care systems, but ultimately many trying to cures diseases and improve health care systems.
When it comes to the recruitment of health care facility workers and the selection of those workers there are many challenges that the Human Resources department have to deal with. The HR department is in charge of making sure that everything that is placed on an application for recruitment is completely correct before the hiring of new personnel. They also have to make sure that the person they hire is an asset to the company and worth the hire. They should try to avoid or refrain from hiring workers who aren’t a fit for their company and only allow those who are qualified to be chosen. Majority of the challenges that are faced by the HR of healthcare are generally unique to health care only when compared to other industries.
Throughout my life, I have worked towards one goal which is to become a doctor. Medicine offers the opportunity for me to integrate different scopes of science while trying to improve human life. Medicine has intrigued me throughout all my life because it??s a never ending mystery and every answer has questions, and vice versa. Upon entering my career, I had assumed that professional and financial success would surely bring personal fulfillment. This realization triggered a process of self-searching that led me to medicine. The commitment to provide others with healthcare is a serious decision for anyone. As I examined my interests and goals, however, I underwent a process of personal growth that has propelled me towards a career as a physician. A career in medicine will allow me to integrate thoroughly my passion for science into a public-service framework. Since childhood, I have loved acquiring scientific knowledge, particularly involving biological processes. During my undergraduate studies, I displayed my ability to juggle competing demands while still maintaining my academic focus; I have succeeded at school while volunteering part time, spending time with family and friends, and working part-time. To better serve my expected patient population, I worked over my English and Korean language skills. I have come to discover that a job and even a good income, without another significant purpose, will not bring satisfaction. I planed to utilize my assets, namely my problem- solving affinity, strong work ethic, and interpersonal commitment, to craft a stimulating, personally rewarding career in medicine. I have taken stock of myself, considering my skills, experiences, and goals. I have looked to family and friends, some of whom are doctors, for advice. Because of this self-examination, I have decided to pursue a career in health care. The process has been difficult at times but always illuminating. Throughout it all, I have never lost confidence - the confidence that I will actively absorb all available medical knowledge, forge friendships with fellow students, and emerge from my training as a skilful and caring physician.
