Some even say “ if you face your car towards the path, then blink your headlights three times that an orb will fly towards you down the path.” means that on Fudge Road Bridge that if you face towards the path that an orb will fly towards you. This quote “Some say that if you face towards the path and blink your headlights three times and turn off your engine that she will write on your windows “HELP ME”.” means that if you flash your headlights three times that Amy will write on your windows “HELP ME!!”.hese legends have made up what make these bridges scary. Deaths that occurred have happened on these bridges, Emily’s Bridge and Hells Bridge.Emily’s bridge is located in Vermont. Emily was killed by her mom’s fiance. Hell’s Bridge is located in the forest of Michigan. It is said that a man named Elias Friske went on a killing spree.“Legend says in the mid 1800's a seemingly friendly older man named Elias Friske went on a murderous rampage killing several children, and the demons that “made him do it” still haunt Hell’s Bridge.”Elias Friske butchered kids from the town village while adults were looking for missing children. “A college student was writing a paper on Emily's bridge and she wanted to find out more so she brung a ouija board and some friends and played it on the bridge the spirit said its name was Emily and that she was murdered by her step dad.”After Elias Friske went on a rampage he was murdered. He had killed all of the children in town and had threw their bodies in the water. Emily’s Bridge is based on how two people loved each other ,and wanted to go on a date but while Emily was waiting for her boyfriend her mom's fiance killed her. Then threw her body under the bridge. These Deaths have created what people call terrifying even horrific. This next topic is the scariest one I have found, I hope you like. like. Bridges have been around for many years with tales of orbs, deaths and sacrifices.Legends, Deaths, and sacrifices all tie up into bridges because when you think about once someone has died it then gets told. Then that person messes something up about the story that leads to legends and myths. Sacrifices come into this because when you sacrifice someone or something you are giving them up to someone as a offering or a gift.
Ambrose Bierce’s An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, which is a short story released in 1890, gained much popularity over the years. It is most famous for it’s manipulation of time. Though the events in the book only take seconds, the story is over eight pages long. Time seems to slow for the man in the noose and at the same time speed up for the reader. In this way, Bierce presents his manipulation of time in the story.
In Aurora, Colorado, there is a legend about the Third Bridge. The Third Bridge can be found on Quincy Road heading east out of town. The bridge is next to a power plant in an otherwise, dusty, and deserted area of land. The legend states that a van of young children crashed and everyone was killed.
Ambrose Bierce’s “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” brings upon many questions relating to its change in perspectives and the focus on the character. The story is classified as realism based on the fact that the author, Bierce, focuses more on the character than the plot itself. Readers worry about the characters hanging, not about the war and the chicanery used by both opponents. Bierce also uses a change in perspective throughout the story to show emphasis on the character and his thoughts. The change alters the reality in the readers minds, in a way they truly believe that he will survive the hanging and escape free to his family. Sadly, that wouldn’t have given readers the opportunity to classify it as realism and it wouldn’t have given Bierce the chance to show the readers the way our brains play tricks on us.

Rather on the news or a friend telling you of a murder, you feel sympathy towards the person who died and the family of the victim. There’s only so much you can feel about the murder, only because you either don’t know the victim or you don’t know all the details of what happened when you hear about the person and who they were before they died you start to connect, just like a character in a book that you slowly develop in your mind.

In "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" and "The Story of an Hour," the authors use similar techniques to create different tones, which in turn illicit very distinct reactions from the reader. Both use a third person narrator with a limited omniscient point of view to tell of a brief, yet significant period of time. In "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," Bierce uses this method to create an analytical tone to tell the story of Farquhar's experience just before death. In "The Story of an Hour," Chopin uses this method to create an involved, sympathetic tone to relay the story of Mrs. Mallard's experience just before death. These stories can be compared on the basis of their similar points of view and conclusions as well as their different tones.
Split Rock Road is a notoriously creepy place in New Jersey, with references on both the “Weird New Jersey” website and the “Lost Destinations” website. While neither site directly states that if you turn off your headlights and stop the car that you will die, the “Lost Destinations” site mentions the urban legend that if you try to drive across the bridge at night, gangs will block the exits on either side and trap you in. Additionally, while there is no specific mention of a girl in a white sundress, there are rumors that the bridge is haunted by drowning victims, mostly teenagers who get sucked into the underwater drain and smash into the concrete “waterfall” on the other side. Both sites also mention practices of the occult allegedly performed on Split Rock Road; the “Lost Destinations” site describes piles of bones and structures shaped like furnaces that are supposedly haunted by ghosts late at night. Similar furnaces can be found on Clinton road, another creepy spot in New Jersey.
Imagining Reality: The Presentation Of The Theme of Illusion VS Reality in “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge”
...ony, and narration. Without these exceptional parts the theme would not have as much meaning and depth in its perception to the reader. The symbols show to the reader that there is a hidden message to what is going to happen in the end and hints to the theme of the story but is purposely ignored. Irony brings attention to the conscious or thoughts during the story and the unlikelihood of actually dying at the end shows how strong our minds are. Narration is brought to show the theme of his expected death and a diversion from the reality of the readers thoughts. The story is saturated with literary elements that help prove the theme of “An Occurrence of Owl Creek Bridge”.
The Nelly Butler hauntings is referred to as the first recorded ghost story in American history (LiBrizzi 5), and possibly the most exciting hauntings to date as there are still many unsolved mysteries. The apparition appeared on more than 30 separate occasions to over 100 witnesses in Sullivan, Maine, just over fifteen years after the American Revolution (5-6). Although the Nelly Butler apparition is one of the most convincing ghosts of all time, it was subject to suspicions of fraud. These claims turn out to be groundless as the evidence reveals the ghost to be genuine.
William Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily” has many gothic themes such as, when Emily buys the arsenic and the tomb that lay buried in her house. These themes show that gothic literature consists of cryptic and dark settings and tones. This mysterious story is filled with violent events and creates suspense and terror.
