Through Jesus Christ, God’s favor for Israel saved people from eternal damnation. According to the books of the New Testament, sinners are condemned to hell as punishment for their unrighteous lifestyle on earth. In scriptures, hell is described to be awful; for example, Matthew 13:50 states that there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. In hell, sinners are shut out from the Lord, which is truly unfavorable. Revelations 21:8 provides readers with an idea of who is subject to eternal damnation: “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, the murderers, the fornicators, the sorcerers, the idolaters, and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death” (Revelations 21:8 The Harper …show more content…
I contend that God did not need to favor Israel to save humanity when he could have simply saved humanity himself; nevertheless, his thoughts are not our thoughts. God’s intentions surpass his actions because eventually his plan will come to light. Thus, God favored the Israelites to meticulously benefit the people who lived during the Old Testament and after the New Testament. Additionally, God ensured that his favor for Israel did not exclude other humans from receiving salvation and a key to heaven. Paul explains in his letter to the Ephesians that God sought to rekindle the two divided groups, Jews and Gentiles, through an inclusive covenant with all humans. “He has abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity… and might reconcile both groups…” (Ephesians 2:16 The Harper Collins Study Bible) In the New Testament, it is revealed that God favored Israel for the coming of Jesus Christ, a savior of humanity. Divine favoritism is morally justified in the New Testament because it brought healing, peace, and love to all of
It is hard for us to understand that when we give up our sins, although difficult to do, we are no longer rejecting God and will be rewarded with true joy. Heaven is a complete union with God. “There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, “Thy will be done’ and those to whom God says, in the end, “Thy will be done.’ All that are in Hell chose
The Lord is merciful; however, “He is not only able to cast wicked men into hell, but He can most easily do it” (Edwards 430). Here Edwards acknowledge the mercies of God but also worn sinners that, that mercy will not be available on the judgment day. so in His own time to punish the sins of the people of Israel because they were condemned to hell for their unlawful
pits, different cells in hell and there is a heart of hell. As Mary and JESUS went through hell their were people there who are begging god to let them in heaven and god says no because judgement has been set. He said there has been many people their way to introduce them to god and they refused. Souls are in hell begging for repentance and the answer is no because they had their chance and they turned their backs on god. Some souls even were at one time of another saved and they were going through something to make them stronger in the word and they though god was being unfair to them and blamed god for the mistake; therefore turning their backs on god. There are many false prophets in hell. As god walks through and stop to talk to these prophets they beg and pled for forgiveness and when god says judgement has been set they began to curse god and talk to him in the manner where they are really disrespecting god.
In his article “Applying the Old Testament Law Today”, J. Daniel Hays brings out many positive and negative reasons why some believers tend to ignore many Old Testament Laws and embrace others. Hays emphasize how different evangelical scholars use moral, civil and ceremonial laws to help believers know whether a particular Mosaic Law applies to them. (Hays, 22) Ironically, we were taught in church and Bible study different ways to apply Matthew 25:39, “Love your neighbor as yourself”, to our daily living. Once an individual put this into action, they will begin to understand the true meaning of giving and how to love the way Jesus directed us to in the Bible.
The redemption that mostly played out in the New Testament in a part of the New Covenant found in Jeremiah 31:33, “‘or this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” This covenant is also known as the permanent covenant, because God promised to write it on our hearts, and because God laid out His plans for the coming of Christ. The coming of Jesus was prophesied early in the Bible, and according to Williams Rainey Harper in his journal, Micah 5 told of the coming of Christ. The journal states, “A cornerstone shall be established in Zion; and out of Bethlehem from the line of David shall come a righteous ruler, who shall lead Judah against the Assyrians.” These verses in Micah also solidify the prophecy made by Nathan in 2 Samuel 7. Jesus is the Son of God, and He is from the lineage of David, He was born to atone for the sins of mankind. When Jesus first came to earth, and was declared to be the Son of God people did not believe Him. The Resurrection of Jesus and the Hope of Immortality states, “…significance for believers or for all men is considered to depend logically upon the similarity of Jesus to other men and is weakened in the degree in which he is considered unique as the Son of God, the second person in the Trinity.” While it is sometimes hard to understand, God fulfilled the New Covenant. Jesus died on a cross, so we are forgiven our sins. His blood was the price of our sins. The most well known Bible verse John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” His death promised us an eternal
The Old Testament law is seen as irrelevant by most modern Christians today. Christians are now under the blood of Jesus Christ which is said to abrogate the Law. Galatians 6:2 says, “Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.” The law of Christ is to love God and your neighbor as yourself. This does not mean, however, that the Old Testament Law does not apply to Christians today. Author J. Daniel Hays expounds on this topic in his article, “Applying the Old Testament Law Today,” and focuses on the hermeneutical approach of Principlism. This approach allows the Old Testament Law to be viewed in light of the New Testament.
In Dante’s Inferno sinners are in Hell because they committed a grave crime and did not seek repentance for their crime. Dante categorizes sinners in hell based on the severity of their crimes and how unrepentant they are. Dante explains, “Without repentance, none can be absolved. None can repent before a sin is done. No reasoning could be more fraudulent (27.124-127)!” In this
Even in the idea of Hell, eternal suffering is a punishment, and it is the worst kind of punishment one can endure. Knowing one has sinned and would not be forgiven is a punishment so great, that in the New Testament, God chooses to sacrifice His only son to show all of mankind that God is able to forgive their sins. Therefor no man would be given the punishment to walk the earth in shame in the eyes of God as Cain did again. Suffering is only given as a punishment for grave sins against God, being idolatry and the murder of a righteous man. Regardless, these two forms of divine punishment, are much too severe for the punishment for sinning, therefor it does not conform to the theoretical prospect of retributive
Even though God saw people as evil, he wanted to show his grace. He wanted to separate certain people in the world as His chosen people. “He wanted a chosen people: 1. To whom He might entrust the Holy Scriptures. 2. To be His witness to the other nations. 3. Through whom the promised Messiah could come” (Mears 47). This covenant is made between God and Abram. This covenant marks the beginning history of Israel, God’s chosen people.
The city of Rome is filled with people who have different backgrounds, there are Jews and Greece. In the Christian church there especially Romans 2: 1-10 States about Jews who feel most correctly and no longer need to be punished because they as the elect and the right to judge anyone especially people outside of the Jews. However, in this chapter Paul emphasizes judgments of God which will be fair to all people. Paul emphasizes that there is no more right or wrong, all equal before God even though at first the Jews given special grace to receive the promise of salvation. Our group will discuss more about Romans 2: 1-10, where this text we give the theme of "a just judgment of God" (Utley)
"God hath promised the hypocrites, men and women, and the rejecters of Faith, the fire of Hell; therein shall they dwell; sufficient is it for them: for them is the curse of God, and an enduring punishment." (9:68)
Truthfully God does not send people to hell because they sin but reject his son Jesus. Sadly, Oedipus put his faith in Greek gods that could not offer him salvation or give him eternal life. Fearfully, many non- believers do not believe in hell much less
The Bible describes Hell as a place of darkness, a lake of fire and brimstone. Matthew 25:41, describes Hell as a pit of fire that is prepared for Satan the devil, his demonic cohorts, and the other souls that chose to serve him during the trials of life on earth. The citizens of Hell will be populated with the souls of those who died without accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. These souls will experience the nashing of teeth, endless pain from the tortureous fire, and ultimately eternal death. The citizens of Hell will not reunite with God`s presence. The Bible states in Luke 16:19-28, that souls cannot pass from Hell to Heaven or vice versa. Fire is not the only form of eternal punishment. Eternal thirst and great pain are other forms of punishment that will be experienced by the citizens of Hell. Christians believe that the souls in Hell will be able to see the souls that are in Heaven and vice versa. The souls in Hell simply chose a life of sin, non-repentance, and rebellion against God Word. Revelations 20:12-15, states the following: "And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for aeons of aeons."
There will be an examination of every believer where their works are tried by fire by the judge, who is Jesus as stated in John 5:22 “For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son” There will be a one on one between every believer and Jesus, not about whether they have salvation, but about what they did in their life for to glorify God. Nor is the judgment seat for believers about sins they have committed as Romans 8:1 says “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” The sins of believers were forgiven at the cross so there is no judgment for sins committed in the life of a Rewards are given for good works. In Ruth 2:12 it says “The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.” Proverbs 11:18 says “The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.”
Excepted, however, shall be those who repent and attain to faith and do righteous deeds: for it is they who will enter paradise and will not be wronged in any way (19:60)
