Handwriting has been used since 3 thousand BC. Though a new way of writing has developed, it’s ruining the art of ink on paper. The computer has changed the way students complete their projects or study for the big test. Less than five years ago, people would bring only a pen/pencil to school along with a pad of paper. For homework, they would have to answer everything by stroking the pen along the paper, but now, it has changed. Instead of just paper and pencils, you need hundreds of dollars worth of accessories for a single item, the computer. Personal computers were invented in 1975 by the Electronic Controls Company. Nowadays, the most popular computer companies as of 2014 are Acer, Dell, and Apple. While these companies have made their …show more content…
If students are in the middle of writing a timed essay and their computer breaks, the student wouldn’t be able to finish the work and might have to make it up in the middle of class. This means that the student might be missing important information that everyone else in the class is receiving. Also, if the students comes in with a uncharged computer, they have no way of completing the work. While they may be able to use paper and pencil, the increased use in computers may have the students thinking that they don’t even need paper or pencils any more. Moreover, in 2015, over 9 million Americans had their identity stolen due to displaying personal information on a computer. If a hacker were to somehow make their way into the documents of a student, they could find enough personal information to ‘steal’ their identity. Simply, with a push of a button, you can have your whole identity be copied and displayed on someone else. Due to this one negative affect, school districts should stick to ink and …show more content…
The most obvious defects are technology error, decreasing health, and the distractions that the computers bring. The students’ learning ability can be cut short due to a broken computer or uncharged computer. Also, extensive computer use can cause a decrease in one’s health. As well as health decrease and computer errors, the computers also bring multiple distractions like games, music, and videos. Not only computers, but all technology has become a huge part of everyday life. Written letters are being becoming less and less popular as technology advances. Instead of memos, there are emails. Instead of letters, there is text messaging. The point is, the technology has advanced in many ways good and bad. Nevertheless, the negative effects of technology will overcome the good. In summary, computers should not be implemented in schools. Hand writing is an art, why destroy
While admitting the power of technology, he also points out the adverse effects of excessive use of technology in the education system. He states, “Computers make our worst educational nightmare come true” (279). According to him, improper or overuse of computers hinders learning ability. He reports that over the past few years, computers have been assumed to be a necessity in America’s classrooms and introduced to children from elementary levels. However, technology can be addictive, and students may overuse it, leading to a drop in educational standards.
Technology can disrupt people’s train of thought. To begin with, many people around the world use technology. Electronics can help students and also affect them in many ways, but whether or not shutting down all electronics can help. Schools should participate in “Shut Down Your Screen Week” because of many reasons. First of all, using electronics causes people to get distracted.
With the swarm of technology, handwriting, a vital skill, may be on the brink of extinction, despite that it is able to create a “model citizen, assimilate immigrants, and even reform juvenile delinquents” (Korper). Believe it or not: handwriting is important. However, the debate about handwriting is still questionable. Handwriting allows for effective memory retention and is an significant and unique action to develop certain regions of your brain (Grossberg). However, handwriting is also outdated and lacks the agility of the keyboard (Korper). Nonetheless, some of these positive aspects of handwriting are largely due to the ‘drill’ factor emphasized in the Palmer Method of handwriting used present day (Korper).
...rner. Teachers simply don’t have enough time to teach handwriting. We want students to be able to express themselves, and be assessed on this skill, yet these same students have to rely on electronic devices not only for writing, but for grammar and vocabulary. Most schools don’t have funding to place a computer in every student’s hands, so they should not be asked to replace writing with typing. Learning to write by hand should be taught in elementary school because of its impact on learning to read, self-expression and higher education.
Fortunately, wasting time on technology is not wasting time. Using technology is vital to our everyday lives and even enhances the life we are living. Thompson refutes the report that technology is to blame for the inability of children to write by composing a story for a magazine. This story shows how children today write more often than ever because of technology. Before technology, children would only write for school, but now they write all the time.
What happened to the pen and paper quality of literacy? Traditional elements such as the pen and paper method has been changed due to the advancement of technology the quality of learning has been digitized to fit this day and age. “Just as the nature of and expectation for literacy has changed in the past century and a half, so has the nature of writing. Much of that change has been due to technological developments from pen and paper, to typewriter, to word processor to network computer, to design software capable of com...
It can cause many distractions, it can be difficult to use and can take away from learning time. People are convinced that technology is an effective tool that will further learning. This can be true, but when you use tablets and different devices in class for an hour every day, the students will not be focused on schoolwork. In the article “Technology in the Classroom: Beginnings and Endings”, Mary Ann Matras suggests that, “The pencil is still the most efficient tool”.
Scoring and Arranging Analysis In this essay, I will be analysing the song ‘Turn Your Love Around’ by George Benson. I will analyse the structure of the song, the harmonies used as well as the instrumentation and how they are used to establish the features found in the same genre of music as ‘Turn Your Love Around’ ‘Turn Your Love Around’ is a contemporary R&B song written by Bill Champlin, Steve Lukather and Jay Graydon, and was released in 1981. The world modern reader is filled with smart phones, email, texting, and Facebook, but what we now do so quickly with a push of a button had to be done with paper, quill, ink bottle and considerations of cost”(Fullerton 46). Letters were once an important communication tool in the eighteen century. However, this has made written communication lose its
There are so many ways that students use technology to cheat and so many devices that they use to accomplish this unethical behavior. The many different things that are commonly used in today’s society to make our life easier, but it is used in the wrong way are mostly small hand-held devices. Such things are cell phones, digital camera, PDA’s and lap-tops. These items are so high tech that they are able to store large amount of data that can be utilized to gather information to be used in assignments, exams and homework in the ways of cheating. Rather than worry about study for the test, students simply break into database and change their final grade.
aspect of our lives, we are faced with computers. They are in our classrooms, cars, and even used
A computer is a wonderful tool that can help us with many things. The question is why are computers more than a curse than a blessing? Many children this generation have advanced in computers and technology more than their elders, and the ones above them. The internet is wonderful when researching for homework, but it is not good when it is becoming a bad habit and going on it. Computers have many effects on people and the youth. It can lead to less physical activity for many children and teenagers. Many times computers are being abused for all the wrong reasons. One thing that it affects the most is your vision and can lead to glaucoma a type of eye disease. Many of us are not aware of all the health issues that are caused by computers.
...ass. School administrators should remember not to force technology into their curriculum unless they are confident in the student 's ability to learn and correctly recall information presented. When students have no desire to learn and are given tools to distract themselves technology hurts them, or rather their test scores, more than students who learn with book or oral based teaching because the absence of distraction. Computers and iPads are very difficult to repair or replace compared to books, and because most people are not yet “technologically literate” enough to perform basic tasks for the maintenance of their computer, then it would just be easier to use books. These issues create question as to if students are ready for classes to require computer knowledge when some have difficulty learning the material as it has always been learned for thousands of years.
... all ages do not know how to write in cursive anymore. Some students may not know how to sign their name in cursive since it wont be taught anymore. One thing that many people worry about with digital learning is that students will spend too much time in front of a screen and keyboard. It is believed that these kids will have less of a social life and will be less likely to communicate through talking, but choosing to communicate through online messaging and texting. Though students have a variety of information at their finger tips, this can cause temptation for students to plagiarize. Devices such as iPads and laptops are useful learning tools, but at the same time they can be a huge source of distractions. While students should be taking notes, they could be browsing the web, updating social media sites, watching videos, playing games or other distracting things.

Computers are hampering individuals' improvement in regular life. We don't read printed books any longer, since we can listen and read on the web.
