In chapter 1, the true definition of culture within social life will be emphasized with the aim to further clarify the importance of culture within everyday life and human interaction. There are different definitions of culture and this chapter highlights quite a few. There will also be a focus on the Nigerian culture using Hofstede’s dimensions of culture and Hall’s model of cultural differences.
Chapter 2 discusses diversity and its importance to the world of sport, achieving cultural synergy and the growth process in attaining cultural sensitivity.
Finally, chapter 3 describes the shock model associated with venturing into a new culture; from the perspective of the different stages a person experiences throughout this journey.

The diversity in these ethnic groups is the reason why the official language of my country is English. This makes interaction easier among members of different ethnic groups. It is also a double edged sword as many people are not very proficient in the English language; thus making an already high context message/conversation much more excruciating to endure.(“Typologies Hall’s context,” n.a.)
 1.6.2Monochronic/Polychronic: My country functions for the most part as a polychronic culture. People have no regard whatsoever for time management, it is a very common occurrence for a meeting scheduled for 2pm to actually kick off at 5pm; this is what Nigerians refer to as African time.
 1.6.3Personal Space: Personal space in my culture is very close(less than arm’s length) depending on the situation. Taking a public bus ride requires people to sit really close to one another due to the limited amount of available seats. But, when it comes to religion and especially in the Muslim/Northern areas, there has to be a considerable amount of distance between members of the opposite
