Guys and Dolls, a love story or two, a quirky, charming, and rather enjoyable musical. In my opinion anyhow, which may not be worth a penny; however, I can certainly assure you that I was not the only one who enjoyed this musical. Maybe it was the cackling of the lady in the row above me or the chuckles of my boyfriend who at the beginning was not too fond of musicals. All of these gestures are forms of audience response, which was very positive. The play seemed to capture the audience’s attention well, perhaps it was Nathan Detroit and Adelaide’s arguing concerning the ill-fated delay of their marriage. The audience’s attention was well held; I believe that maybe it was due to the fact that the play had attributes that appealed to everyone in the audience differently. The interpretation of the director did not interfere with the plot or it did not add any unnecessary things. The director definetly supported her interpretation well with the use of the movement. One way the director used stage movement well was by using the whole theatre and stage. For instance, there were several scenes that took place in the moat of the stage. I believe that this was an exemplar use of the stage and also the way that Sarah and Sky used the space where the seats were to demonstrate their journey in Havana. The cast of Guys and Dolls was cohesive and the actors did a great job of not only bringing the character to life, however they also added their own flare to the character. The director did a superb job of casting and use it to support her vision. There was a variety of different actors and their acting style was each different.
